The original Wild Arms intro will always be the best RPG intro ever to me. It was the only game that I never once skipped the intro to, ever. Every time I turned the game on I watched it.
Wild arms 2, 2nd disc came in hard. You're expecting the intro from the first disc but then it comes in like "NO MOTHERFUCKER, YOURE GETTING YOUR BALLS ROCKED TODAY"

I didnt settle for any of the women cause I didn't date all of em enough ....used to be a completions until FF12 and opening that one treasure chest disqualifies you from getting the ultimate weapon. Never finished thousand arms to this day :(.....Azure Dreams though...

I think my favourite intro is Dark Cloud! The original has so much charm (and does the sequel, although I haven't played it yet), and its music is a highlight for me.
Wild Arms got a nice tune and ranks pretty high, but I have to say Chrono Cross has to be the best with its music and visuals. Just watching Serge ride the waves as the beat drops after the slow tempo accompanying you in with the candlelit storybook opening is just goosebumps inducing. BoF IV is also a personal favourite of mine which I would rank above Wild Arms, but I can see how others like Wild Arms better, but against CC should be no contest. FF8 was edgy but I lost my taste for that, still cool and good memories though. Grandia's opening conveys "adventure" perfectly in sound and visuals, but I still feel it wasn't strong enough compared to CC. Yasunori Mitsuda's composing was just too strong, that shit came in slow, took up speed and went out with a bang, watching that makes you feel like you are ready to take on the world. Serge sailing out like a fking VIking!

I REALLY don't agree with the number one spot by the way. I have played that game (and every other one on the list except for Breath of Fire IV pretty much) and don't even remember the intro. Aforementioned Wild ARMs 2 should have been given the number one spot.

You gotta give props to Legend of Dragoon for actually showing in-game engine stuff during the intro, the mystical music was also pretty cool. VIII would be my number 1 though, it just has that "epic" feel to it, but the music for Grandia's is really cool as well!.
I loved "Into the Wilderness" from Wild Arms so much that i ripped it and put it on my Ipod. So I get "Thunderstruk" by AC/DC followed by "Into the Wilderness" and The Incredible Hulk's "Lonely Man" theme....yes, I know, weird but hey, still cool to jam as I'm riding down the road.

I played most of these games but lets be honest, that Grandia doesnt deserve 1st place, the credits is all over the place, and the music isnt the best out there. I bet he just loved this game so much. For me the best intro would be 1. Suikoden 2, best musical intro hands down that match the build up of the story. This is how I interprete the music, desperation > new hope > raise of the army. 2. Wild Arms 1, personally I like the Wild Arms 2 better, but we just cant dismiss the legendary whistle right? 3. Wild Arms 2. Another awesome music, opened with a sax, the second disc also awesome. 4. Chrono cross, It makes u just want to dive into the world of adventure. 5. FF8. I dont know why Legaia is even up there, the intro sucks
I think that this is an awesome list. I would add Gensou Suikoden I and II, Wild Arms 2 (both intros), Vandal Hearts and even though I don't know if it deserves to be on this list, an intro that I do really enjoy is the one for Guardian's Crusade.
I have 2 particular favorites, one is Advanced Wings from Wild Arms 3, and though it's not TECHNICALLY an RPG, the intro to Vandal Hearts even if it IS short
kinda funny how Grandia theme really is ignored almost overall on comments. Even I do like most how Wild arms video and music fits together but when comes the music Grandia theme is just better. And funny how I just looked this for accident.

ff9's opening theme is one of the best pieces in the franchise. 9 is my second favorite game right behind tactics.
