    if you have even a small amount of rust available, you can throw down a rusty oxidizer solely for the purposes of getting Chlorine to run the water coming off the polluted water vent through some liquid tanks to decontaminate it while also actually sealing the polluted water pool off to help prevent all the spills and mopping you've had to waste time on. I would loop the conveyor until it dropped to X degrees, then loop a second time in the heat exchanger until it dropped to the desired temp. The first loop would bring it close to the steam room temp. The second loop would bring it down further, closer to turbine output temp. It should also help with the upper left hotspot depending on how you do your loop.

  • @Latronibus

    This is a really engaging series you've got here. I've found most ONI content to be rather tedious/repetitive lately. Your content has the advantage of some relatively aggressive cuts (for example in this series your cuts have allowed you to go at about 50 cycles/hour of footage), but still you have a distinctive style on most maps: "dig everything, suffer some growing pains as your oxygen pressure plummets and dupes start getting crispy, win everything anyway". This series has gotten you out of that mold for sure, and it's a nice change of pace. This is still definitely not a mod that I could deal with myself, it seems like the need for the various infinite loops (like free energy via turning your aquatuner coolant into steam) is just too much, and I 1. haven't really learned those all that well anyway and 2. I've never been a big fan of them being in the game in the first place.

    • @walljaik
      @walljaik 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      aquatuner is a must in this game... I still remember the pain to cool stuff with the hydrogen bubbler setup! or not having enough wheezeworts in the map

    • @Latronibus
      @Latronibus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@walljaik The aquatuner as an instrument to move heat from a piped liquid into the environment is no problem to me. What I don't like is that when you run an aquatuner in a room full of water and steam, feed a steam turbine with the steam, and drip the waste water from the steam turbine back into the room, and you tune all the numbers properly, electricity is magically generated.

    • @PyrokineticFire1
      @PyrokineticFire1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i like the tiny maps mod a little more than this current run's map mod.
      1) tiny worlds has a variety of sizes to choose
      2) it doesn't put you right at the top of the map, so regolith & rockets are easier
      3) still keeps variety on the map (they're randomly generated, so they have all the same items, just compacted)
      4) tiny worlds has an option to increase the mass of each tile, so it's the same amount of stuff just denser

    • @walljaik
      @walljaik 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Latronibus ahhh my bad! missunderstood! it's not as complicated as it seems but everyone plays his own way. Dripping waste water into the steam room is to reduce the temperature gradient needed to change phase and also having same pressure always. No need of complicated setups, just a pipe is needed. :)

    • @Latronibus
      @Latronibus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@walljaik It isn't about it being complicated, it's that the infinite loop is both nonphysical (IRL the second law of thermodynamics prohibits such a loop) and counterintuitive (my intuition would expect that I would wind up either converting electricity to heat or just not doing anything in net, but actually you gain electricity and delete heat). Now it's a game, I don't expect perfect realism, but consider another example of something nonphysical: the combination of the electrolyzer and hydrogen generator. IRL burning hydrogen would consume as much oxygen as you made and produce less energy than it cost to split, but it is easy enough to understand that in ONI the hydrogen generator only consumes hydrogen, and then compare the energy cost of producing hydrogen vs. the energy output of the hydrogen generator to see that a SPOM works out.
      This isn't the only instance of counterintuitive physics in ONI. As another example, phase changes don't have an associated energy change (like how IRL you have to warm water to 100C and then continue adding heat in order to turn it to steam). This is true even if the substance changes (such as melting rock into magma). But phase changes do induce a heat capacity change like they do IRL, and in the case of substance changes, this can persist upon "reversing" the phase change (like melting sandstone to magma and cooling it back to igneous rock). The result is that you can use these phase change loops to inexplicably create or delete massive amounts of heat. (A regolith melter can power itself, for example.) These are little bits of knowledge that you basically just have to memorize because they make no sense. And you can't just ignore them, at least not once temperature becomes important.

    You can see at cycle 143, the clean water pocket had like over 600 million germs, and by the time of cycle 145, it reduced to 300 million. The amount of germ is definitely not accumulated over time. I highly suspect that there is an integer overflow bug in the germ calculation and at cycle 140-ish the germ on one tile of water overflowed to 2.1 billion .

Only allow 1 dupe through the first door and connect the automation to the second door. Once the dupe it's in the right side of the door the dupe sensor will close the door, and the only task accessible will be to deliver magma. The clock, just set to release the dupe in it's down time.

    It might be worth putting a diamond window temp spike into the magma to cool it down. Then you can revert to steel door management of the steam room's temp. When the magma cools enough to turn into igneous rock, it can be passed through the rails just like the steel. Overall it should result in a lot less manual dupe work than pitcher-ing in the magma.

    If you put an automated door under the bottle emptier the dupes cant put bottles into the emptier if the door is open so if you really wanted to automate it you can just set the door up to the thermo sensor you already put into the steam room set the temperature to about 200C and keep both steam turbines running full time until you run out of magma. The dupes will still have to pump the magma so youll still have the buffer range for a brown out but you could just set the thermo senser up to a filter gate and put the temperature lower on the senser so the dupes will have the errand before the errand is needed.

    Similar to the trick you used with the visco gel magma pump on the hungry dupes map, you can use a mini pump for 50g/s magma. This can be done using a tile of water to the lower right of a mini liquid pump. Rotate the pump so that the water is kept to the top right square. This water won't enter the pump but the magma from directly below the pump will.

      Use petroleum for the liquid lock to help keep a buffer in the amount of time needed to pick up the debris. When it comes to stuff that hot it’s best to store it in a vacuum with a sweep command and deal with it at later date. You can also turn your regolith into magma.... Excellent job in such a small space! Automate the magma with a sweepy?

    If you eventually want more magma, dumping regolith seams like it would be the best solution. It would basically act as a low tech temporary regolith melter, and I mean regolith is a lot more plentiful than any rocks.

      BTW I love your little heat exchanger. It never occurred to me that I could suck more heat out of something hot this way.

    I'm trying to replicate this gameplay now at 2022, but things seems a little bit different.
    I'm not sure if this was recently changed on some update or I'm doing something wrong, but when I close the door to force the debris to the right/down diagonal, it goes up instead, above the door.

      They might have modified things, I have not tested this in a while. The save game file should be linked so you can load it up and test if it's broken.

  • @Onyx_crowmen
    @Onyx_crowmen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This made me think, I know its not efficient, but could you drop the cooled metal into the magma to reheat and then repeat the cycle? Would it be infinite or would heat run out eventually?

    • @FrancisJohnYT
      @FrancisJohnYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The magma would eventually cool, it would take a long time though as there is a huge amount of heat in there. On full size maps you can run your entire base on power generated from the magma core pretty easily.

  • @hanroschoeman8292
    @hanroschoeman8292 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would like to make a suggestion for the size of this map why don't you use the sweepy bots for Regolith collection ond the asteroid's surface and make everything out of steel maybe?
    Maybe on the side of the map make a drop point straight into the magma biome with a dropper at the top.
    Liquid pump that pumps a little bit if polluted water into the magma biom and the regolity with help of temperature shift plates boil the polluted water - or use regular water - into steam to be consumed by the steam turbine?
    The regolith can be instead put into a smaller walled of section with the turbines if space is a problem and the extra energy isn't needed and when the regolith is cooled down to a suitable temperature you export it for use in filtration medium in water sifs?

    • @rubikmonat6589
      @rubikmonat6589 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing can be built above where he has the bunker doors. So none of that could be built. You could put the dropper down in a pit I guess. But no sweepy on top is possible.

    Since you're not worried about germs and just letting it spread freely, How about removing the sink until you decide to start purging germs again? Not like the sink is effective at stopping sickness right now anyways. It'd free up time and let the dupes polluted water flow.

    so I heard a thing from a person on youtube:
    apparently if you add a tiny bit of slime lung to food poison germs slime lung will kill all the food poison germs and will naturally die because of O2 or water
    but this might be useless because I don't remember if you have a slime biome for slimelung
