This is a really interesting point in Capcom’s history honestly, it’s a really cool title that definitely feels like a nice middle ground between the horror of Resident Evil and the action of Devil May Cry, which makes sense considering it came out between the two. Also new best quote: “When you die, don’t become a pre-rendered corpse.”
Honestly I feel capcom is getting comfy again, like I actually feel good and have fun when I pop in a game of theirs now, from dmcV to the RE remakes and RE 8, I feel like they’re really trying again, and by akatosh am all for that.
One of my favorite classic games of all time. If you master the parry/counter mechanic, you get more rewards for it. (I don't want to get too in-depth into it so I won't ruin Woolie's discovery of it)
I'd just like to point out that Yasuke is in Nioh 2 with an awesome red and black armor set so when you finish the 1st there's something to look forward to in 2. On topic, this more than even DMC 1 feels like what the next evolution of an action oriented RE would have been, I would not mind at all if the series got a revival.

I always liked that the orb inside changed colour depending on what weapon you had equipped, even in cutscenes. I used to try out all 6 colours in Onimusha 3 to see which one looked the coolest.
I love this franchise so much... I hadn't played it in over 15 years when the remaster came out but I still remembered so much of the game and did issens from the start like I had never stopped playing. Just wish Capcom would remaster the rest of the series.

There are so many things I just want to explain to Woolie about this game. The hidden invisible pickups are for unlocking a mini game outside the main game that he doesn't need, so you can ignore them for the purposes of an LP. The game has Tank controls on the D pad. And the analog stick movement is new to this HD remaster. The games prerendered background/camera issues work best with Tank controls because moving forward is always Up on the D-pad. I don't know if he even reads TH-cam comments.
I get mad, everytime I see pre-rendered backgrounds. I wish there were some games that still use them today, but without the 90s/00s jank that was in most of them. It looks so fucking good.

They have different strengths, the former is stronger but slower which might effect the block speed. Raizan's magic is a good mob clearer as multiple enemies can get caught in it's magic combo. Worth mentioning that the OG Oninusha games didnt have DMC controls, they were halftank. You would squareoff with enemies and be able to dodge left, right, and back. This made Issen a lot easier since you could sidestep counter, one of the few times the tank worked in your favor.

Fun game, but the ending is abrupt and completely unsatisfying. It'd be like if RE1 had you encounter Wesker in the lab and then immediately cut to credits without explanation or resolution. Onimusha 3 is considered the best as a whole, but I personally prefer 2. I'd love to see a reboot on the RE Engine. The series moved more towards character action, which DMC flat out does better, and I just think that when every other survival horror game was modern day and / or scifi a historical fantasy survival horror game was something novel.
I've played all the onimusha games, even the game Onimusha Tactics on the gameboy (I know it sounds like a fever dream but its a real game) and if there is one thing I can say about all of the games, it's that they are so fun to play, to feel yourself getting stronger is just a blast, hell I even like Onimusha 4 and Blade warriors, which is a controversial opinion sure, but if I can inject more Onimusha into my veins, than eh, its whatever. My only problem with the series is the second game, I just don't like Jubei as much as Samanosuke, and to find out that so much happens to Samanosuke and Kaede between 1 and 3 always made me wish 2 was just Samanosuke's story instead of some new asshole.

So this game does have tank controls. the remaster has joystick full motion running while d-pad uses tank controls.
Was about to say this as well. Here's hoping they see this, it would mitigate some navigation issues and avoid pulling up the map too.
