    Watching this 2 years later and you've summarised the Suzi 14 perfectly. Love your easy to listen to style and honest commentary. I'm now 67 and the 14 was my last bike. I bought her new in 2004 - black and chrome with those heavy, but gorgeous looking (IMHO) chrome pipes you talked about. She was such a beautiful bike and did everything I asked of her, with a minimum of fuss. My wife absolutely fell in love with the bike when I introduced her to "black beauty," who was posing gracefully on the showroom floor of Victor Harbour Motorcycles in South Australia. A few days later we returned by bus with our all black leathers and rode her home to Adelaide, via the longest route possible. I was totally in love, not just with my wife, but with this magnificent machine. She had more than enough power and heaps of low end and midrange grunt, which was the selling point for me over the other big Kawasaki, Honda and Yamaha "naked" variants at the time.
    However, I got the urge for more power and fitted a full Yoshimura 4 into 1 system, which changed the dynamic of the bike...but not in a positive way. Yes, she dropped 20 kg's and was more agile and gained more power, but she lost her beautiful symmetrical look and my wife never forgave me for altering her appearance. I also tweaked the suspension the same way you did, but it also changed my riding style. I was no longer relaxed on the bike, but always felt it necessary to squeeze the last bit of performance out of her and really tip her right over in the corners. This led to a near fatal accident, as I entered a fast left hand sweeper just outside of the pretty town of Strathalbyn. I went in way too hot and ended up over the other side of the road mid corner and couldn't correct her in time. Fortunately, there was a little dirt track off to the right, so I pointed her in that direction and braked as carefully as I could and avoided a major get off. I was not the same rider after that incident and was literally shaking all the way home. Regrettably, I sold black beauty a few weeks later and haven't ridden since. That was nearly 18 years ago. My wife also never forgave me for selling her, but she understood I'd lost my nerve.
    If I had my time over again, I would have just kept her standard and she'd still be sitting as gracefully as ever in my garage, eagerly waiting for the next time she'd take the both uf us on a relaxing journey into the beautiful South Australian countryside. We now live in the little eastern European country of Armenia and guess what I just found for sale? A silver/gray 2002 Suzi 14 in mint condition with her original twin chroma pipes. What to do?

    Hello. I’m also a owner of an GSX 1400 K5. I have owned it for eight years now. Before that I had one K3 that I sold away and I got regrets and started to look for another and that is the bike I own today. I just LOVE my 1400. Big wonderful power in the speeds I use the bike. Had it on a motor track and it worked fine for me. It pulls very nice and I have a wonderful time every time I’m on the roads with her. I have tried a couple of other bikes like FJR1300 and GTR 1400, but when I got home and drive my old 1400 I just fell in love with her again. She’s a keeper. Drive safely and have a great season 2022. Best regards from Sweden 🇸🇪

      @@FenTour Yes exactly. That smodley enormous tourqe with 160nm makes it stupid fast. It has more torque in 2500 rpm as it has Standard at peak. Nice Review👍🏻 I think one of the best cheapest upgrade is to change the front springs to progressive ones. It makes the bike handles much better! Now I have Hayabusa front end on my new one and that makes the 1400 handle like a sports bike and still have the comfort left.

    Why do the exhaust manufacturers insist on emblazoning their exhaust with their name in giant gaudy letters?

    • @FenTour
      @FenTour  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sadly motorcycle manufacturers like Suzuki emblazon their fuel tanks too, at lest the Akra sticker is just that a sticker so one can remove it if one wants. :-)

    I have had 3 of these bikes now and paid £5500 for my 1400FE a few years ago. I also have a Triumph Rocket 3GT which is a great bike, but still love the way the 4 cylinder GSX rides, plus my wife prefers the pillion on it so it didn’t go part-exchange. The Blue & White ones are the fastest :-)

    • @FenTour
      @FenTour  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How does the thrust of the Rocket 3 compare? I have not ridden the Rocket, maybe I should not… I have no more garage space.

    • @keithpilkington3855
      @keithpilkington3855 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@FenTour The Rocket has awesome acceleration and incredible handling for a 2500cc machine, but that just makes the GSX1400 feel like a much lighter bike with incredible torque and feels much smoother with its 4 cylinder engine that just wants to go fast.
      I don’t understand why Suzuki don’t have anything today that can be compared to the 1400.
      I wish I still had my K2 as it seemed smoother than the two FE’s that seem to have slight lag when accelerating from low revs in higher gears. A Suzuki mechanic said this is due to the power mapping used to clear later euro emission standards. Still can’t ride it in London ULEZ zones without having to pay £12 a day though.

    Good review I first bought one 2003 absolutely love the bike . Then head a metal knee in 2017 sold it to my brother in law missed it so much thought sod the knee bought it back. But it's a big old bus and the best bike I ever had. And i started on the fs 1e back in the mid 70s gt 250 then a kettle. So the gsx 1400 was the nearest to the good old days in the 70s

    Great to find another GSX 1400 lover 🙂 I've had mine only for 12 years and love it more every day. No problems, great performance, comfortable, looks great...what more could you ask for 🙂 Oh yes, I've also got rid of the standard pipes and got a 4 into 1. Mine is a 'StayinTune' pipe. That's what we use here in Australia 🙂

    Hi to all 1400 owners and friends ! I bought mine in 2005 new. Blue one with 4 in 1 Yoshimura. Of course i'm looking and trying some new bikes....but was never able to find all the features like my GSX1400. I always wonder how can you check oil level or lubricating the chain without a central stand. Oh and don't talk about exhaust that become like horrible tin cans too ! So it's been 19 years now and I still keep mine may be for my life time bros. Each time i open the throttle it's a grumpy melody to my ears. And it still start at the firs half a second. Because i take a great care of this jewel, she is like a brand new one still shinny and polished ! Rev is about no more than 3500 rpm on motorway and my smooth driving allow me to cover more than 400 kms with a full tank ! What else ? So, I agree = if you have one, alright, dont' sell it ! No ABS, no regulator, no traction control, ... Who cares ? I press start and ready to ride ! Just taste this pure bike and, you'll never get any issue. She'll never let you down ! Have good times and take care my friends ! ✌

    Honestly love these bikes I’ve owned two in my life an my first was my first ever bike after passing my test ( experienced off roader rider ) and as much as I loved them they was just not that fast you would think with being 1400cc they would seriously move Ano they are heavy but they just don’t get going quick enough , maybe I’ll get one in my 50s to easy ride on 👍🤣

    • @FenTour
      @FenTour  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As standard it is rather lethargic, prior to my mods and dyno it would not rev much over 6000. Still it’s no sports bike, more a torque monster.

    "Bit of corrosion" showing shots of it absolutely minty fresh haha. Bloody nice bike. Should be proud to ride that mate! 1400 would be too much for me I reckon, but the "little sister", 1200 bandit is right up my alley. I have the 650, but I'm recognising the fun factor of these big old muscle bikes, especially the carb'd ones... So I'm on the hunt for a specific Mk1 1200 that I know the owner cared for... And then I will never sell it lol. To hell with a bike being old, a bike is a bike, it has character. You don't need ABS if you know what you're doing, nor TC, and you can use a throttle lock if you're doin massive motorway miles. That's the point is it not? It's a pure motorcycle, and I'm after the purest experience there is lmao

    Wrote it, (and myself) off in '07. Out of hospital, and grabbed a 'K5, rode home with 8 broken ribs. Still sitting in the shed! Had to have the wheels powder coated white, awesome look. What an excellent review, thank you. I've had my 1400 for 11 years now and have the same sentiments towards it. I seem to have done similar things too, the MCN adjustment for the suspension transformed the handling in a way I wouldn't have thought possible. When I first bought the bike it felt as though it wanted to run wide on roundabouts and it was generally wallowy but the adjustments allow you to change things so it feels as though it's on rails without the ride being too hard. I also changed my twin exhausts for a 4 into 1 but I picked a Yoshimura Cyclone which is ceramic coated in black and looks very 80's. The original down pipes are double skinned and very restrictive, however, the Yoshimura ones are almost twice the internal diameter. It's rather loud on full acceleration but as you showed can be done, is quiet if you wish it to be and take things easy, apart from which there are very few opportunities to fully open the throttle on a 1400 safely. A couple of other things I tried, a K and N air filter which didn't seem to make an appreciable difference and I also felt the gearbox on mine became notchy/clunky when hot. After much experimenting I found Shell Advance Ultra 10W 40 smoothed things out hot or cold and I don't notice it any more. I suspect it was also because my bike has only done 4000 miles. There's one thing left that I wish to do. Mines a blue one and I've seen pictures of black ones with a black Yoshi exhaust but with the wheels painted gold, not a bright gold but a muted gold, to me that looks almost bling but not quite and a lovely scheme, again evocative of the late 70's and 80's when Ducati used it on their 900ss. At some point then I'll change the wheel colour which will also pick out the gold calipers and rear suspension. That's all I think it needs for me. Any way thanks again for a mornings ride from my armchair and safe riding.

      Thank you for watching and commenting. I forgot to mention I also have the K&N but as you say does not make any real difference just allows re-use rather than replace. Interesting I have recently customised the look of my Harley with various coloured bits, a Harley is always unique and never standard. As for my GSX I could not change it’s looks with paint etc. strange how I feel differently to the two machines!

    The GSX 1400 has been growing on me the last few months. One with unknown mileage in neat condition for sale close to me, thinking of trading in my 2013 Tenere for a 2002 model GSX.
    Do you think it's reliable enough as primary form of transport? (I ride all through the year).
    Been riding for 20+ years and really craving more than a single cylinder at this stage, and the fuel consumption at least not worse than some cars it seems. I just wonder if the age will start influencing reliability as I ride in dodgy areas where you don't want break downs...

    • @FenTour
      @FenTour  ปีที่แล้ว

      Where do you live? I would say that it will be fine for all year round but without constant care will soon look shabby, a bike with better weather protection maybe more suitable in winter? My GSX is a fair weather machine only, I ride all my other bikes all year round in all weathers but not the big Suzi.

    Had a GSX1400K6 from new in Dec 2006, sold it late last year. With tears in my eyes. Emigrated to the states & foolishly thought I wouldn’t have a bike again. I’m now in Florida. Perfect for it, though it was never sold here & is probably not legal in the US?
    I endorse everything you said. Had I not moved, I too would NEVER have sold it. Still had all the original parts, so the new owner got an absolute bargain of what looked & went like a box fresh new bike, well cared for, never dropped. Sensible mods like yours, only I retro fitted a twin pipe system.
    Power Commander III, I think. I forget. Heated grips, reshaped seat. A few stainless inserts & fasteners, gear indicator. Absolutely lovely bike. Enjoyed rallies with my ageing but enthusiastic bike pals, usually oop north (I lived in Canterbury). If I ever get a chance, I’ll pay whatever I need to, to get one back! Be funny if I bought my own back at twice the price! GF56YED, if I recall correctly.

    I enjoyed your video so much, you spoke with authority due to your vast experience with the GSX1400. Too many people these days are seduced by the enormous bhp figures of modern bikes; I find that you have to wind them right up screaming towards the red line (very anti-social), I prefer to have the ease of riding with a large displacement engine with power available in any gear; the bike is barely even trying as you potentially rack up the points! I sold my ZZR1400 and always regretted it. Still my favourite bike was my old Blackbird, (regretted selling that too), great memories, great handling, loads of power, really planted on the road... I might have to buy a second bike!

    Nice review. I’m now on my third GSX1400, a K6 I bought last year after years of Blackbirds etc. First one I bought new from Taz Motorcycles in Peterborough in 2001 for £4999! That one got wrecked in the south of France when a 92-year-old German rammed me from behind at the lights with his 1970s Merc. So I bought a new CB1300, but just didn’t like it as much as the 14, so chopped it in for a 54-plate 14. That also got wrecked in France (see a theme here?) and I spent years riding other bikes. Bought my K6 last year and doubt I’ll ever sell it.

    Hello to all 1400 fans! I bought mine in 2005 new. It is a black model with 4 in 1 originaly (now Yoshimura) and with the original Suzuki little fairing in the style of de gs1000S. A pure beauty ! I can't say enough good things about this "nearly perfect" bike and you told the main things. I'm 63 now and I must say that if you drive less miles in the year, the GSX becomes harder to master, what I did great in the past when I drove much more my bikes. I shall change for a lighter and modern bike with some electronics as I know that NO other bike shall have such a great engine ! If I had infinite room in my garage and twice the budget I would necer sell it, of course... I HATE selling my bikes, because I truly love them! The Suzuki 800 RE will certainly be my choice (in black, naturally), partly because, when you keep a bike for 19 years, your Suzuki specialist became a good friend 😉

    When the SuzukiSuzuki GSX came out. There was Yoshimura kit’s for bigger displacement. I don’t know if that still available now.

    • @FenTour
      @FenTour  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yoshimura did a cam set that would make this hit around 145hp without a re-bore.

      @@FenTour Oh. Without a bigger displacement. I know that you could buy a bigger bore 1550 something like that…

    • @FenTour
      @FenTour  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@teokastelan2930 indeed there was a 1550 conversion, not sure who made it though. I did think about the cams and 1550 15 years ago but was so satisfied with the increase from 108 to 126 hp from the Akra and PC3 there was no need. Cheers.

    What are they like for little country lane riding? I fancy something more suited to exploring around the Dales etc (not offroad / gravel tracks), all the little single track lanes where you need to ride nice and slow. Can they handle going slow all day? My Tuono twin isn't really suited for it, so need another bike in the garage alongside it.

    I’ve had my 2007 GSX1400 since early 2010. I bought it with less than 10,000 km on it, and now it’s nearly got 57,000km on the clock. It’s never been in for a service, I just change the oil and filter every 5000 to 6000km, I change the air filter every couple of years, and I changed the plugs…occasionally. Less than occasionally actually. 😂
    Work needed? I only just changed the original chain and sprockets, and had the forks rebuilt a couple of years ago. Tyres of course. That’s about it. I did change the pump and filter a couple of years ago as the high pressure filter was clogged up.
    What a damn bike…I always tell my missus it’s a my “last bike”. I have no desire to get anything else, and can’t think what else today would replace it. It runs fine in baking hot central Queensland summers with 45 degree C days, and in winter when it’s not much colder. 😊
    I love it!
