    I've got a Silver one of these but I've never had the opportunity to ride it like that, these are an excellent all round motorcycle and this video is testimont to that fact. Great sensible ride and consideration for others, I wish all bikers were like you. Top job.

    Scenery, riding, motorcycle = 10/10. People are always a bit shocked when they see a GSX1400 messing about with litre bikes etc. These are fairly open fast roads too for a full naked. IMO the 14 is one of the great street and road motorcycles. That motor with a full Akrapovic is bordering on street perfection. Suzuki clearly made and released this motor with a cynical 'wink' towards such easy release of its potential.

    Old post now, but just stumbled across it. Awesome, I couldn't here the bag of spanners, sounded unbelievable. I have never owned one, but put well over 6000km on friend's, riding pretty close to you, probably more in the 6000 to 7000 range (was a mates bike to be fair) he also had two XJR's one carbby one injection. We would both pick the GSXR any day if the week. I was only held back by the ground clearance, scrapping the pegs a fair bit. But the suspension was untouched from stock, and I am a fatty at 100kg. I ride a BMW S1000R, but given the choice I would take the GSXR without I really wanted to poo my pants. The GSXR is so easy to ride, well balanced, and I never thought big or heavy....just a bloody awesome naked uncomplicated mile muncher....

      +gary flowers Thanks matey. For grim death, that's how I hang on!! Actually, the type of helmet makes a massive difference. When i first bought it I was wearing a Shoei which was quite a round profile across the front, and my head used to feel like it was gonna come up & off at anything over a hundred. Then I bought an AGV Stealth SV, much more streamlined and I don't notice the wind half as much 'til I get up to about 130+. Due a new helmet this year, looking at the AGV K5, same streamlined shape...... No, I don't work for AGV :-)

    Lovely smooth riding, good lines and riding within your comfort zone. Its a pity everyone didn't do likewise, I was over there last week and it was a nightmare trying to get across the mountain with all the crashes, at one stage I think the road was only open 9 minutes before it had to be closed again.

    • @gsx1100eg
      @gsx1100eg  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** Don't know about smooth matey, it's hard work hanging on with no fairing. And my mates reckon it's like trying to overtake an oil tanker on steroids, so not sure the lines are that good either . But I like it so who cares. I remember that day, we stopped in Ramsey cos it was closed, then the rozzers told it was open again, and by the time we got our lids on and up the road it was closed again. That's the problem when it reopens after an incident, loads of people have been hanging around for an hour or so, then they set off up the mountain, wringing its neck on cold tyres, then bam, it's closed again.

      On the whole they're bulletproof. I've had mine 10 years now, and put 35000 miles on it and never had a problem/breakdown. But, I am quite keen, whatever it needs, it gets (never does more than 2500 between oil changes etc) The only downside is the finish on the frame etc. it's not the best. I had most of the bike powder coated quite a few years ago, and at the end of this summer I will be doing a full strip down to get the frame coated (it's looking real shabby now). Having said that, whilst at this years (very wet) T.T mine developed one of the few issues known to affect the GSX, C28 error code ( gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=759.msg9545#msg9545) I've had the throttle bodies apart and found (and fixed) the broken magnet issue, but still have the error code, so my investigations continue. I must stress that this isn't making the bike unrideable (still does 140+) I just want to get to the bottom of it. I notice you've said you're 72 and this will be your last bike, please be aware, they're a big heavy bastard, I can't see it being any lighter than your ZZR ( although the riding position will be a lot easier, and they have a damned good turning circle). I suspect the centre of gravity will be higher than your ZZR as well. Hope I've covered enough here, if not, feel free to get back to me.

    I have owned one of these since 2005... It's taken me down to Faro and back to UK twice without one single problem and with the 6 speed box it was beyond economical.. It will cruise on the auto routes at max legal speed all day and night if required but sleep is recommended in between too.... It was ideal for the Pamplona mountain road between France and Spain too.. Mine saw of an XJR 1300 when an ex mate ( the rider) began to show off and challenge me.. all in good fun.. Even though I am 5 10" it was touch and go to have both feet flat on the road when sat on it.. Not for the faint hearted.. One night returning to UK I got too exhausted from riding to find a F1 or E Tap ( get unpacked and secure bike up too) so stuck the bike on centre stand off road parking and slept on it until morning.. lucky I didn't wriggle in my sleep.. I had been riding all day from dawn until way past dusk.. (They are road mileage eaters these bikes).. (Always, always respect them and the throttle, because they don't forgive even the tiniest split second mistake if one is made when riding).... I could've slept almost anywhere that night..... luggage bag on a rack at the back for a pillow and feet up over the handlebars near the speed and rev counter dials.. Power nap commenced... One of the best nights sleep I've ever had .. Thanks Mr GSX... Do you know the rider in front in this clip? It looks like they are holding you back some? I've allegedly had mine up to 150mph once and what some people may not realise is the faster you go then the further ahead you have to be taking into consideration and viewing and up your reaction times too.. it can catch you out if your not aware you need to do this.. It caught me out a few times but I adjusted quickly ...Rather than end up in a field or the houses opposite me where I live at the junction at end of road.. or even worse a mortuary slab.. Ride safe, ride free... More crotch rockets in the way.. 5:40..

    Great run! I'm interested in a GSX1400, I've currently got a VFR800, a Speed Triple and a ZX7R, the Viffer is getting too old, the Triumph is sunny days only, and the ZX7 I'm getting too old to fit on! Ideally I want to go down to one fast but comfy bike, I parked up next to a GSX 1400 last week and liked the look of it. This is more than fast enough for real world riding. Do you run it through a British winter? How well does it cope with that? I commute all year round so need something that isn't going to rust away.

    • @gsx1100eg
      @gsx1100eg  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there. No, I don't run it through winter (way too old for that nonsense). If you were going to buy one (or any bike) to run through winter, get the frame, wheels and everything powder coated. I did mine a few years ago now as it was starting to look a little tatty, (the finish on them isn't the best) and mine has a pretty easy life. They're an awesome machine, and it does everything I need, but, it won't handle like your speed triple.

    • @gsx1100eg
      @gsx1100eg  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aye up matey. I suppose it depends on your definition of "cheapish". What trim is yours in at the moment, standard pipes etc? Mine already had a full Akapovic on it when I bought it, so that was a great expense out of the way. I fit a K&N air filter a couple of years ago, and it made a small but noticeable difference. The biggest improvement came when I fit a power commander. I took a gamble and bought a 2nd hand power commander off Fleabay ( I just kept putting £50 bids on every one that appeared and eventually I got one). They're a piece of piss to fit (plug & play). Then I booked it into a local Dynojet place (£125) and had it mapped properly. Wow, what a difference. Hell of a lot smoother, doesn't sound like an asthmatic pensioner at 7000 rpm any more, and more power. It's now doing 108 bhp and 108 lb/ft of torque. Only thing I'm gonna do now is replace the rear shocks. It's done 41000 on the standard shocks and it starts weaving and trying to start a tank slapper once it gets above 120mph, and I think it's cos the shocks are a bit tired. You could spend a lot of cash on hot camshafts, bigger valves in the cylinder head, upgrade the injectors (the list is endless), but I personally wouldn't cos the limitations of the handling/braking would make it a bit pointless (unless I was gonna turn it into a sprint bike. Hope that hepls, any more questions - feel free.....

    • @garryarmit8688
      @garryarmit8688 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pete the engine is all standard, it came with the 2 into 4 cans, not sure of the make but dont think they add any performance. its a 2002 so think its a k2.

    • @gsx1100eg
      @gsx1100eg  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine's a K3 (I'd attach a photo if I could figure out how) and although it came with the Akrapovic already fitted, it also came with the original full chromed system (which I stuck straight on Fleabay). It weighed a bloody ton, must have sapped 5 bhp just in weight. You can still get the same Akrapovic system (titanium race can), but it's the best part of a grand. There might be cheaper 4-1 systems available. I suppose it depends on how much you want to spend. I deliberately looked for something that had a decent exhaust and sports rack already fitted.

Wouldn't mind something really quick top end wise but doubt I'd wanna go overly fast anyway and plus I love the big naked muscle bikes hence why I went for the bandit 600 as it's reasonably big for an A2 legal bike and just has that naked retro styling tho is a 1997 model.

      Hi there. It's all torque, from tickover right round to about 8500rpm. It used to start running out of steam at about 7000, but the power commander & a dyno map improved that. I absolutely love it, and yes, the looks are a lot to do with it. However, it is a big heavy bastard and you'd probably find that a 1200 Bandit would give you almost as many smiles per £.........................

      Tbf I find the bandit 600 fun even though most find it bland. Wouldn't have thought the gsx1400's handling would be much worse than the bandits especially as it's adjustable which it's not on the bandit. Would consider the 1200 bandit though would like to get something different than a bandit also love the fact the gsx1400 has loads of under seat storage. Bandit isn't too bad with under seat storage can easily fit a couple bottles of pepsi or something under the seat but it's just huge storage on the gsx 1400.

      Sounds like you've already made your mind up :-) I looked around until I found one with a decent 4-1 exhaust already fitted, the standard ones are sooooooooooooooo heavy, and sound shite......

      Ye lol not keen on sports bikes, don't get me wrong would be mad to have a bike that can go insanely quick but anything over 100 mph and you'll most likely loose licence for a bit anyway lol. Also dunno if I'd get on with the riding position. What year is your bike? I think the newer ones like 2005-6 on-wards only have 4 into 1 exhausts which I'd have to get as I doubt the twin cans would fit down the alleyway to my garden lol plus didn't they refine the FI from 2005 on-wards also?

    • @gsx1100eg
      @gsx1100eg  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't like sports bikes either, although I'd consider a CB1000R or a GSx1000 if it came to it. Mine's a 2003, but it had a full Akrapovic 4-1 already fitted. The later ones had a 4-1 as standard (a Yoshi I think) Couldn't tell you if they they changed the F.I on later models, but I don't have any complaints about mine............

      Declan Lamey Hi there. Apart from a K&N air filter & Stainless Akrapovic with a straight through titanium can it's standard, no engine work (that I'm aware of). I do have a PCIII to fit then I'll get it Dyno's & mapped, but still saving up for that :-)

      Declan Lamey It's pretty standard apart from I had most of the bike powder coated a couple of years ago. Only thing I'm planning on changing is fitting an undertray. One of the front disks is a bit knackered so I'll probably fit a pair of wavy ones over winter. I toyed with fitting Yoshi cams etc, but don't really see the point, I can get round most of the plastic power rangers as it is.

      I'm 62, used to ride CBX 6 cylinder, GSX 750, GS 550 and after 35 years decided I needed to ride again. I bought a GSX 1400. seller had to drop it off for me because my bottle had gone. Slowly built my confidence back up just going round our side streets, then the motorways. Now I'm happy to say that the enjoyment has come back - we've now bonded. The bike is everything I've wished: comfy, quick, handles well, head turner. I won't be riding it like Pete though, buried 6 friends back in those mad, mad days, just happy to have the wind back in my face and on such a truly beautiful bike.
