As a native Texan, I pretty much lived life like this show throughout high school. Characters like Buddy Garrity were my next door neighbors. Characters like Lyla, Matt Saracen, and Smash were my classmates. This show spoke to my soul in more ways than one.
I'm not from Texas, I'm from Georgia but it still kinda felt like home to me and that's what I love the most

Watched this on Netflix and I didn't think it was possible to fall in love with a television show, but this show showed me it is. I fell in love with show...I fell in love with the characters, the sport of football, the little town Dillon that I'm not even sure exists but I don't care. This show is so amazing and I would recommend it to everyone. It has everything from drama to romance to sports to action. Seriously if you're debating whether to watch this show or not, just do it because you will not regret it. This show will have you laughing, crying, screaming, cheering. Give this show a shot. Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.

Second time watching the series. (Skipping season #2 both times, gladly) That FIRST season (sure, it's 22 episodes) is the single most impactful, emotionally charged season of TV I have EVER watched. Breaking Bad, especially the last season, was emotionally draining - But FNL... Wow. And god, Mr. and Mrs. T. That couple. That marriage. Best. Ever.

He’s entitled to his own opinion. All the respected “Best TV shows of all time” lists that have come out over the years list Friday Night Lights among them.
The first time I watched this series, I felt empty when the credits rolled on the final episode. I felt like I’d spent my life with these characters and I didn’t know what to do without them. I felt like a Panther graduating and feeling lost without my community and team. I just rewatched the series again about 5 years later and it’s still one of my absolute favourites. Coach Taylor may be my favourite TV character of all time. I haven’t seen the movie or read the book and as great as I’m sure they are, no version of this story can ever top this show.
The show is far better than the movie.
Honestly I shed a couple tears during the program, not one regret. Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.

Same! I live in New Zealand and I know nothing about football either, when I told people to watch it they rolled their eyes as soon as I said it was about American football, but the ones who gave it a go anyway LOVED IT.

It is ONE of the greatest, but not the greatest. Its sure as hell up there tho.
How Zach Gilford did not win an Emmy for the story arc when Matt's dad died is a travesty. He should have won simply based on his facial expression in the funeral home when he opened the casket and saw that his dad no longer had a face. No words...no dialogue...just emotion....they were his best scenes

Watched so many shows and nothing comes close to this... this show gives me chills everytime and I have rewatched all 5 seasons 8 times now. Best show ever.... wow.
The part where Matt fights with his father, gets me everytime. :'( I love this show so much and the characters! Thank God Kyle Chandler won the emmy! :)
This literally brought a tear to my eye. Wish it lasted longer and that more people knew about it.
That's part of the beauty of this series. They didn't try to stretch it out which would have watered down a masterpiece.
@MrGLites I would love a movie or a short series just to bring back the cast and stretch it. But they need to have the same writers. Shows can be extended. The problem is when they can't get good writers to execute
You can't beat this show. Friday Night Lights stands head and shoulders above every other show I have ever seen. While it's a pity that it never truly caught on, it can also be seen as a blessing that the show never had the opportunity to jump the shark, and eventually become something its fans hated. With the exception of one plot line in season 2, this show is nearly without flaw. The acting, the writing, the drama...there is so much to love.
This is the best show about life, I have ever seen. The football provides a great backdrop, but this is a show about life.
They ruined the ratings as they had it on late Friday nights when most people are out doing things, like watching real HS FB FNL.
@@TM-bn8pv seriously, I get why they did it from a kitschy marketing standpoint but they buried it. The show had great reviews, they should’ve aired it on Sunday night at 8, prime time and the gold standard for a network tv show. It’s a pity but I’m glad it’s a cult favorite now.

I swear I rewatch the whole series at least once a year. It's one of those shows that just never gets old no matter how many times I have seen it.

I've watched this show 3 times. And each time it is beautiful. Each time it is moving and emotional and heart wrenching.
I love this show and its rich characters, its rich relationships and real stories. These people feel real. Smash feels real. Timmy Riggins and Matt. Street and Lyla. Landry and Tyra. Vince. Becky. Coach and Tammy. Billy, Mindy, Buddy, and all the parents.
Its hard to explain how the ending feels, its a bunch of emotions, sadness and happiness. And how the show was never really the same after season 1, or during when Coach went to East.
I love this show.

This may be one of the greatest trailers out there, for any movie, or any TV series. A fantastic trailer because it does a terrific job of showing the essence of the show, that it's not a show about a sport. Anyone would at least give this show a try after watching this - Best trailer out there!

This is completely true about Texas high school football. My dad is a high school football coach and I'm a coaches daughter we actually get a lot of hate for being a coaches daughter. I can relate to this show completely about what's going on. On and off the field. Texas forever🇨🇱

I'm from a small town in Texas. Went to high school in the 70s. Played football here. That being said, I knew everyone of these characters in my high school experience. Brings me joy, and it makes me sad. This show could've been about my town, and my people. Glad I got to live it all again through this show.

I just watched all 5 seasons in less than a month and I’m in awe. I couldn’t get enough of it - FNL has skyrocketed to my top 5 greatest series of all time. Here are some thoughts:
Kyle Chandler as Coach: I don’t think there has ever been a more perfect casting for a role in a show.
Connie Britton as Tami Taylor: I started out liking her and ended up loving her. And her southern accent, on a scale of 1-10, was a 12.
Kyle & Connie as husband & wife: Without a doubt, the best on-camera-chemistry of a husband and wife - flawless.
Taylor Kitsch as Tim Riggins: Talk about nailing a character - Taylor nailed it with a sledge hammer.
Louanne Stephens as Grandma: Simply outstanding - one of the greatest acting jobs on this series.
Lyla, Matt, Julie, Tyra, Landry, & Buddy: All Solid performances.

One of the few shows ever made that really captures what the America
between the coasts is like. Turns out, the people and the stories out
in the heartland are as compelling and interesting as anything ever
filmed in NY or LA.
Hope, Dreams, Conflict, Friendship, Betrayal, Desperation, Heartbreak,
Resiliency, Triumph, Defeat, Death, Toughness, Love, Family....all this
portrayed in wonderful storytelling that felt emotionally true.

Best tv show I've ever watched this showed changed my life I cried twice watching this show I'll never find another one like this again. CLEAR EYES FULL HEART.
I don't care about football. I don't even understand the rules, nor do I care. I try my best to stay away from High School settings in fiction, as I am not interested in the usual teen drama. But Friday Night Lights is one of the best things that ever happened on TV. It can hold it's own right besides some of the best HBO shows. It's brilliant in storytelling, style, acting, and emotional payoff. I am sincerely grateful to the friend that kept insisting I needed to watch this show despite my initial "It's a Texas High School football show, go away" attitude. It's so full of heart, soul, and spirit. You DO NOT need to like football to enjoy this show. You just need to like your entertainment to be really, really good.
That's what sports do, especially football. Lots of real life drama, competition, jealousy, etc. Passionate people doing passionate things together just makes it much more real than some drama show that tries to make up passion out of ridiculous atory lines(though FNL even had some at some points).

It took me a long time to finally get my wife to watch the show because she also thought it was only about football. In the first few episodes, especially in the pilot, the focus is mostly on football, but as we all know it changes shortly thereafter. If you can get people past the first few episodes then you're good.
Probably the best drama series ever on TV. Too bad more people could not see past their preconception of Texas and high school football. This show was a show about community, relationships, growing up, striving for your dreams, heartache. and yes FOOTBALL.

Season 2 was a stretch, but I totally understand the pressure the producers and writers were working under. But on the whole this is one of the greatest shows ever made for television.

Show came out in 2006 and I didn’t even know about it and just finished watching it 2021.
I’m an Aussie who had no particular interest in American Football a month ago. I binge-watched this series in a few weeks and finished two days ago. I have watched a lot of TV over the years but this show has affected me like no other has. I tear up just thinking about it. I’m watching any TH-cam video I can find about FNL and I’m wondering how long I should wait before starting over again.
Kane Sanders Same with me. I’m not American nor do I have any interest in football, but this show has changed my life so much. I watched it several years ago with my mom and it’s almost become our tradition to watch it together every few years. It’s one of the most amazing shows I’ve ever watched.
I finished the series today and cried my eyes out. I'm so attached to these characters, it's unbelievable! Right now, I'm tearing up so much after watching this trailer. So much, it's lucky that no one's home to hear me. It's like I'm having a meltdown. The emotional complexity of this show is so unique that there will be no other show that could even dream of having such a great impact on an audience as Friday Night Lights. I have the biggest respect for this series.

Just discovered this series. Watching Season 1 on DVD now w/my adult son. The game footage is realistic, the relationships mostly realistic (esp. marriage btwn coach and wife) the acting superb. I can tell this is a show we'll likely watch more than once in it's entirety and we're only on Disc 2 of Season 1!! I imagine they keep up the good writing and acting throughout.

My husband and I are just finishing watching the last season of Parenthood--I'm going to miss that family so much! A friend told me Friday Night Lights' producers made Parenthood, so I just have to give this a go! Your reviews sure are good! If you haven't seen Parenthood, 5 of 6 seasons are on Netflix!

This show makes me miss high school so much. I hate all drama's but this one literally grabs me by the heart. Barely got past season 1 so far and it's my favorite show of all time. Great actors, great story, great everything.

There have been scenes that have made my jaw drop. Never a line of dialogue. That line made my jaw drop. I just had to sit there and think about what I just heard.
I just started watching this over again on Netflix. It's still an all-time great show.
The scenes that made me cry was when matt broke down at coaches house after his dad died , when Landry confessed to his dad in the garage about the murder , when Landry and his dad where at the police station and his confession was over but e felt so guilty that he wanted to stay and confess more so his dad had to forcefully get him out , and matts dads funeral
His grandma always had a way of making me teary eyed when she had her "moments".
One of the best shows and I know NO ONE who has watched this....

Love this beautiful series so much (even though season 2 was disjointed cause of the Writer's strike). Amazing characters I'll never forget. Coach Taylor is so inspiring and one of the best authority figures on tv. 🙏🏼

Finished rewatching a few days ago. There are very few shows/movies that make me tear up. This does it multiple times. The performances and writing is beyond its time.

Pretty sure i just experienced every single type of emotion a person can have in the 5 minutes i just watched this. Including the chills all over my body. Don't know what else to say but Clear Eyes Full Hearts Can't Lose.
Its a miracle this series lasted 5 seasons. It almost cancelled a few times and luckily it didn't. I feel like 5 seasons is the perfect amount for every show. Its long enough so you don't have to leave out great ideas and so you can flesh out characters, but its short enough to where it doesn't overstay it's welcome. There are some exceptions of course but 5 seasons was perfect for FNL

I FUCKING LOVE this show. Just started watching and I'm on season 3 now. I'm gay, hate sports but love this show. It's about so much more than football. I even find myself cheering for the Panthers during the football scenes. Awesome stuff
I know almost nothing about football and this is one of my all-time favorite shows too. It's hard to explain to people that it really isn't a show about football, although the game lives large in everyone's lives. Enjoy the rest of the seasons!

This is a great trailer. It even mimics the show in the sense that it starts off being mostly about football but over time it changes and becomes about these people's lives. Such a great show.

I've spent the last 2 months watching this show on Netflix. I don't think it was ever really shown with a proper schedule here in the UK. A shame because it's one of the best shows I have ever seen and I miss it already, it should have had more exposure.

I watched this show before my Varsity Football season and I never truly understood what it was like to be a Varsity Football player and all the good perks that come with it and how much fun it is. Now my season is coming to an end and our sections championship game is soon. I have a feeling that once this season ends and next year when my Senior season ends, this show is gonna be unwatchable to me because I couldn't handle going through the pain of missing football. This show brings so many feels with it.

Loved this when it was on tv, but haven't watched it in years. After watching this video I need to watch it all over again. Just great freaking television. Coach, Tammy, Riggins, Smash,....all of them were perfectly cast when choosing the actors/actresses. I'm not from Texas, but I have nothing by love for that state. God Bless all of you down there in rural Texas.
