Learning how to use a hinge is my end of season project for next year, I feel I can shoot pretty good with a wrist strap release but I'm looker for more accuacy
I personally hunted with the UltraView hinge this season with the .016” click. I shot my second mule deer with it. I like it because it helps me stay calm and remember the process in the heat of the moment. In a situation where you have to get the shot of quick, I’ve found that you can pull to the click before the animal gives you an opportunity and hold it until you get a shot, which makes it go off pretty quick
Sometimes archers over think things. 99% of animals are taken with shots of less than 40 yards. Also, we aren't aiming for a 1 inch 12 ring, or 14 ring. My point is learn to be as accurate as you can possibly be with the equipment you plan to go afield with. If you do the same thing 5,000 times it becomes second nature, muscle memory. You become confident in your abilities. Confidence prevents panic, it allows you to be calm. You already know the outcome because you have made this shot countless times. Relax, range, relax draw, relax release. Love the content. Keep up the good work guys.
Thank you for this video. I am fairly new to bow hunting, but have really dived in this year. I’m a Wyoming resident and have taken two smaller bulls and an antelope with my rifle the last three years, respectively. I am going in wholeheartedly this year with training, scouting, and archery to try to give myself an opportunity to get a bull with my bow. I switched from a trigger released to an evolution outdoors hinge release. It is a learning curve, but I’m figuring it out. This video really helped me think through my process and is helping me improve. Thank you so much.
Love my hinge has definitely changed my life with nearly a year of target panic. Thanks for another great video brother, you and the elk shape, mfjj crew have changed the game with knowledge and tutorials
Really appreciate the video/commentary. I switched to a handheld this year, as well. I'd been shooting the Nock 2 It and Hinge this spring and found that I was much more consistent with the Hinge, but that may be due to faulty mechanics on my part. I committed to hunting this year with the Hinge and, unfortunately, had a terrible experience out west. Had a great buck walk out after five days of hiking canyons. He caught me by surprise and I completely missed the target at 45 yards. He busted out and checked up allowing for a second shot, which was much more composed and on target (albeit a bit far back). Thankfully, I was able to find the buck and put him down with a second arrow. I don't think the missed shot had anything to do with the Hinge vice my inexperience as a hunter (my second season). I love shooting and, like you, want to continue to push myself to get better, as an archer and bowhunter. Keep the content coming!
When I shoot a hinge, I prefer no click because I've found that the click makes me punchy / jumpy and I want to pull through faster. I just set my hinges/back tension releases for no click and super hot, which seems to help my personal shot process.
@@ElkShape Following up on this, you've inspired me to dedicate the next year to hunting/shooting with my UV as well, thanks for that and good luck on your archery journey
Bought the same hinge release this spring. Became lights out with it and felt far more comfortable shooting it over my index release over the summer. Saying that, I felt confident to take it hunting this fall and I did. Learned the hard way on opening day that hunting with it might not be for me as I made a poor shot on a doe after forcing it to go off. I had not forced it to go off all summer but the pressure of a hunting situation got to me. No denying my screw up here and she did survive. I still shoot it great into the target but will be using my index release for hunting for the rest of the season. Maybe I will give it another go next year after another summer of shooting it as I enjoy it far more than my other release.
thanks for sharing your story and honesty.. I was concerned about hunting with it too.. But i tried to get some reps in hunting situations such as shooting out of a treestand.. that helped be build some confidence and go for it.. but I can totally see how other releases are better hunting options for most - TC
I have taken two bucks with a back tension release one at 50 yards if you want to step up your accuracy it's the way to go, down side is shooting with a glove on .
I started shooting a hinge, when i'm shooting well its a beautiful thing, when i get tired i find i still rotate the hinge and fire the bow without it being a proper surprise. Thats fatigue...
I’ve hunted with a hinge for many years now. I prefer it, to be honest. The shots I can’t take with it a shots I shouldn’t be taking, such as an animal that’s moving rapidly. This style forced me to really aim and focus on my spot, that’s especially important when pin gapping.
IMO- the hinge is a super delicate device. If hunting from a static site like a blind or in a tree where you usually have some few seconds to properly draw and set up for for the shot in a semi-controlled situation( animals move unexpectedly) the hinge would probably be acceptable. If you're a person that gets buck fever easily and haven't learned to control your reactions the hinge still may not be the best idea. And it all depends on the archers training enough to have 100% control of the whole draw, sight and shoot so as it to be an unconscious act. I prefer a thumb style release for hunting especially.
I’m right there with u I’m new to hunting and I want to hunt with a bow bought my first bow about 3 weeks ago and just ordered a hinge tonight can’t wait to get it and start using it I love this channel it’s Ben very helpful to me
love how you explained how to make the hinge go off, my UV hinge should be here next week so perfect timing on the video. Can't wait to hear mfjj's how too perfect timing. Epic b'roll btw Tim doesn't go un noticed ;)
awesome video. I've only been shooting for maybe 6 years and since day one I've been using Handheld. about spring time I purchased the hinge and love it but scared to commit full time to it haha
I shoot a silverback, it’s a tension release. I am new to archery, and having back surgery has slowed me down but when I have used it, it’s great. I also plan to use it for hunting, and I should get a 2nd one, but it was hard to pull the trigger on the first one.
@@ElkShape only thing scares me is losing it lol I feel that is true with any equipment, its only as good as the time you put in getting better. I do have a question, Why would you say a tension release could be scary for hunting?
@@steven_farmer89 just for me personally.. I like having the click knowing I'm near the shot discharging.. Being completely in the dark would scare me.. but I'm weird too - tC
Had the UV Hinge but i didnt like it due to the super light aluminum body so i sold it and got my money back thankfully. I love my silverback and nock 2 it. And even the 2smooth…But maybe id enjoy the brass version of the UV Hinge. The only thing is when i use a clicker it freaks me out and startles me i like the non click better
hey Tim, they make a Bow holder for behind the front seats, it's like a pocket with a velcro strap for the top. cabelas sells them. I'd hate to see the dog step on your bow and throw it off somewhere.
I own a sh$t ton of releases, most are thumb buttons, resistance and hinges. I like my HBC's but I LOVE my UV Hinges. I do feel (like mentioned earlier) the UV causes me to anchor a tiny bit further back with its swept neck design but I adjust my peep on one of my bows just for this release. The one thing that is so awesome about the UV is the draw! I can wrap 3 fingers and thumb totally balanced on pressure, anchor, come off of the thumb pad on the hunting bracket to the click. I don't even have to rotate this release. I have it set pretty hot. It is making me SO consistent on my entire process without having to "pre-load_ the release like I do with my NBC just because of the design. They are all good but the UVH is so nice!! Note to UV...PLEASE make a '22 design change with a magnet to keep the head/hook locked for hunting...PLEASE!! GREAT VID TC!!
I have actually purchased and tried the 1/4” ortho bands, but I feel it made my releases a little “colder” especially after the click because the band is stretching and tension is increasing.
I just bought a hinge release over the weekend I bought the b3 ghost it looks super cool all white. I love it so much makes me shoot so much better. Love how light it is does not weight at all. Why would someone not want the click on the hinge?
I have arthritis in my hand and fingers. Unable to pull back with wrist strap. Can you attach a wrist strap to it? If so does this release work well with it? Thanks to anyone who can answer.
Also how the heck do you guys get those insane helicals to stick when fletching loll deff wouldnt work for me with a bitzenburger…i sometimes have trouble with a 3 degree offset but new glue i have tried is a game changer…Bob smith industries with the accelerant too if needed. Amazinggg stuff
Would this be affected by having a bow draw length set too early season clothing wear? Whereas late season with heavy layered clothing an index worn a little loose can make up for constriction of the way clothes bind up in shoulder and elbow?
I did change my anchor point because the neck of the hinge is longer than the wise choice so you end up having your hand move further back on your face, since the d loop is attached to the release further away from your hand. I ended up getting a Truball HBC for that reason because it doesn't have as long of a neck
.016" Click Length forgot to mention that... anyone else mess around with a hinge? - tc

A hinge saved archery for me... I wish I had the ability to shoot a wrist release. But I don't. It's me and the hinge until I'm dead. 🤷🏽♂️
