Thanks for this video. Just getting into archery after being away from it for 30 years, approaching like i do with weapons training and this helps a lot.
I hunt with a hinge and love it, have been using it for the last couple years and won’t shoot another style again. I feel it makes you focus more on your shot process and making clean shots than punching the trigger like it owes you money.
Last year when I was truly getting into archery I was borrowing my father in-laws wrist release. It was catching and throwing off my aim. Went to the archery shop and got the Wise Choice. That thing is rock solid and greatly improved my shooting! Can’t recommend it enough
I switched from a spot hog finger release to the nock 2 it and I was able to train all of my target panic away Really big believer in thumb releases!!!
I use the silverback and nock2it combo. Good way to have tension option and hunting release cross over. Isn’t the carter wise choice and the nock2it the same just 3 finger vs 2 finger.
The Too Simple has a shorter head than the Wise Choice and the Nock2It (which are essentially the same release). So anchor point is going to be slightly different between the three. A direct crossover to the Wise Choice is the First Choice. The Silverback is a two-finger version of the Evolution.
I am a huge Wise choice/Too Simple fan. I recently took the 2 hour ride out to Lancaster Archery and bought the UltraView hinge 2 in stainless with stainless hunting bracket. WOW!! Love that release. I will be using that for backyard and 3D shoots and TAC this year. I’ll stick to the Wise Choice for hunting.
@@thomaslathrop5438 To be honest, I do not use the UV hinge anymore. It just sits in my drawer collecting dust. I will sell it for half of what I paid if you’re interested. It is a great release, but I have so many that I just don’t use that anymore. Just shooting the wise choice these days
Trufire Synapse! great crossover to a Sear for training purposes but a really smooth release that you can adjust travel and tension of the thumb barrell
I feel after watching this the barrel would be my choice but just like u stated about the tension release it helps keeps u from bumping forward having to keep pulling back thanks dan thanks Tim hunting season is a blink away
Love the channel. After watching this today, I purchased a wise choice release off of your website and then picked up the AOT bow mount for it too. Couldn't be more excited
Man the timing of this video is clutch! I just started researching hinge release last night. Have my eye set on the TRU Ball HBC and was also looking at Carter's lineup since I enjoy The Lucky index release so much. ABT!
If you’re looking at buying your first hinge, I would recommend the B3 Ranger. Nice hinge and comes with a wrist strap. The wrist strap is nice when you’re learning the hinge or new to handheld releases.
Ive got a Carter Ember. Scott BackSpin. and a Truball 360. The Truball 360 has developed an issue where it can go off at random without touching the trigger. Shame because its a nice crisp release.
i have the Scott Longhorn Hexx and love it . I had target panic and watched the video of Bill Winke and bought one ...the problem is that im so sucessefull with it that im left the finger index release ...
Great video. I was JUST in the market for a few weeks and not sure what to get so I ended up going with the Nock 2It. I have since seen some others from Carter, I will be buying soon as these will end up like wheels with my race and drift cars....can never have too many
0:52 I wish that last finger slot was a little longer. I have the Wise Choice and hate the last finger extension. The green one you're using is almost there but too short. The third finger is half off.
Thanks Dan for putting this out. I've been wanting to get a new handheld release for awhile now, but unsure to go with a thumb or tension. How do you guys like the new backstrap index from dud. That one fits my style more for hunting but also want the best accuracy possible.
So the wise choice and Nock 2 It are pretty similar, which would choose between the two and why? Nock2it seems to have a little ledge for the third finger.
Check out the Whalen's Hooker Release! A little known company with one of the most simple and best back tension releases on the market. Fully adjustable hook style back tension release. I set mine so all I have to do is relax my hand and pull into my back wall, the hook slips off the D- loop and it fires. Great release of target or hunting because all you have to do is use back tension!
@@ElkShapeThere are a few videos on youtube about the Whalen's Hooker, they are old though. That would be cool! If you do I would loan it to you for a video.

Would have liked to see you try & review Trufire Synapse just bought one. Thumb trigger release I like it, but would like to hear your thoughts. Bought it on line nether pro shop I deal with stocks them
Thanks for the great video. Some advice please? I use an index release but seems everyone says a thumb release will assist with accuracy. What concerns me is the clicking sounds I hear when you attach it to the d loop. When I walk and stalk hunt this can't be good right? At a distance it should be fine but 30 yards and less?
You can go either way with one that clicks on or doesn't but most people would try to attach the release prior to getting in tight with game.. the click is very light though - TC
Good video bro and yes I’m one that supports Chris B! I’ve never used a hinge release always used back strap release but I’d like to try one. Which one would y’all recommend me starting with?
Just bought the wise choice and I really like it. It is LOUD, LOUD, LOUD. Did you do anything to the release to quiet it up for hunting? Thanks and dig your vids
Great video as always but wouldve been cool to show the same style of release and 5 different brands. Basically you tested 5 Carter releases and a Scott and ultraview.
@@Trashpandapermaculture you may need to increase your draw length, or increase the length of your d-loop in order to use a similar anchor as a wrist strap.

Great video guys! I'd love to see a collab with Chris Bee. I''m bouncing between the Nock2It and B3 Hawk with short stem. The wiseguy is a great release but is a bit too sensitive for me to wrap my knuckle around without worrying about it going off. What are your thoughts on wrist strap releases? Joel Turner's ShotIQ stuff on the elk collective was great for me.
Holding weight 15 pounds??? My target compound was over 30. Thumb releases might be ok for hunting but I think they foster punching the button and flinching, and not maintaining back tension through the shot. But then maybe you need more draw weight to activate back tension. I still use my CheckIt release.
I hate to sound like a moron, but I STILL don’t understand what the benefit is to a “surprise” shot. Why use a thumb or tension release? Why not be in total control of your shot timing? I get that wrist caliper jaw releases can be not in perfect uniform, but I’m still not sure why I need to switch. All I know is that all the top shooters aren’t using wrist releases. Thanks for any insight.
