I used to live right there at the old Coast Guard Base. I was in charge of the two lighthouses for one year. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (before it moved) and Lightstation Diamond Shores 84-85. Surfed during the hurricane swell at the lighthouse when it was 20-25', it was when I first met Kelly Slater when he was a slashing young grom with no fear. Now I live in Melbourne Fl. 20 miles south of Cocoa Beach, where Kelly is from. I can remember that current so bad that when you'd catch a clean long left, and walk back to the jetty no way to paddle it back.

great way to celebrate the 150th birthday of the lighthouse, with surfing! i put my bird spotting scope on the planets and was able to see 4 of the largest moons of jupiter, twas pretty sick. merry Christmas!

That Left look really fun. Being a Goofy-footer I really enjoy seeing a nice Left break that runs for a nice distance. I learned to surf surfing spots that were almost always Rights (whether it was a Jetty, Pier, Point, or just a beach break most the good waves were Rights. I got good at surfing backside, but I just loved when the swell direction switched and I could surf some decent Lefts. I would have loved to surf that Left (not too big, not small, tube section, nice length, etc..) It checked all the boxes. I notice you had to get out and then go back to the Jetty/point to paddle back out. So I assume there was a north current and it was much easier to just run back up the beach and paddle back out. I'm very familiar. Nice Video. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and good wishes for 2021.

Really enjoy your vids, well done! We get similar conditions here on Eastern LI, personally I get tired of watching guys getting near perfect waves in 80degree water! How about you?.. How about a video dedicated to the realities of Northeast Winter surfing; WIND, RAIN/SNOW/SLEET, relatively short time windows / freezing in AM, gets dark early and the upsides; CROWD CONTROL and not to mention cold water makes you feel good!
Oh shoot... I forgot to put the board dims in the video. I was rushing to get the video out to spend Christmas with the family. I was on a 5’9”x 18.5” x 2.25” Answer model from SUPERbrand.
My buddies and I years ago surfed here so many times. Almost chopped by sharks. Everyone ran out of the water. Was unreal sight. The sharks traveled along the trough rolling sideways eyeing everyone up and down the beach for approx. one hour. One dude acted as if all was cool, stepped in the water and made it about 10 feet off the beach. Shark bee lined it at him and could not get out of water fast enough. I had been surfing for years and that was really surreal. Hatteras is dangerous. I fished as a mate there for years. Dirty water makes it more dangerous together with small baitfish around. Hatteras is dangerous, otherwise great. BEE CAREFUL!
The vlogs from Hawaii were good mate, especially when you did that massive frontside air, but there is nothing like surfing your home break with your friends and your filmer Mr Geoffrey O'Neil. Don't know how you squeeze into those smaller barrels because you look pretty tall on your vlogs, but it was great to watch mate. Not too big. Not too small. Just right for your welcome home surf. I remember when the outer Banks weren't as popular now you have let the world know about the obx you make great content but you definitely didn't help by posting constant videos of pumping swell and they'll be ex and it's hit or miss you know that you got to be on it to catch it firing. you got famous on TH-cam and now everybody knows this is one of the best spots on the East coast and yes we do know each other a little bit personally I grew up here as well
Wasnt as popular cause not as many people were into surfing... but it’s been a world renowned surf spot since before I was born. People have known it was one of the best East Coast spots even longer. Hawaiians and Pro Surfers who came in the ‘80s and ‘90s have bragged about it ever since. I don’t doubt I’ve brought more attention to the area... but Surfline, and a growing surf population, are what have really brought the crowds. Blaming crowds on me would be like blaming Lowers crowds on the pros there, when in fact it’s just that there’s more people surfing now days and live cams 24/7 showing conditions. But even still, it matters not how much people know how good it is here cause it fires and there’s still no one around a lot... like this video, or yesterday morning. And often when it’s REALLY good, the conditions regulate the lineups themselves... only on the 3-5’ and “Good” conditioned days predicted a week out, is it crowded. But still you can go surf alone on any given day. That’d the beauty of this place... it’s always changing, to where even I don’t always know where the best sandbar is that day, and conditions are always changing Compared to forecasts. So because of that, you can always score empty spots with no one around if you put the time in and look. Very few places in the world can be popular and empty at the same time. Hatteras can.

Temps dropped a lot from Saturday to Monday. But they’ll go back up the next south swell we have... depends when you come. Definitely can’t go 3/2 when it’s proper cold.
Sorta like what Brett said, you would want to be in at least 4/3 hooded with booties and gloves. A 3/2 could slide if you just shortened your time in the water. You wouldn’t exactly be comfortable but i wouldn’t imagine it would be horrible
I had to stop watching this video 5 mins in to see you guys 4/3 booties and gloves in 60+ degree water lmao. Cmon the water here off L.I is in the mid 50s and we are still rocking 3/2 with booties . Anyways, keep the dream alive man and stay wet.
