  • In an exclusive one-on-one with Dogs TV, Ken Lewis reveals he's a 'self-taught' greyhound trainer and explains his methods on getting the best out of his champion greyhound.
It's a perfect lead-in on the eve of the Group 2 Bob Payne Sprint Final this Saturday, where Lewis and star greyhound Bye Bye Bucks will look to add more silverware to their already impressive tally in 2012.

We firmly believe that UK Greyhound racing should be abolished with a phase out, over a period of a few years, with sufficient time to ensure all the dogs are found suitable homes.
Reasons why we believe a ban is the only option
UK and Irish Greyhound racing has been in a steady decline over the last decade. We believe this is due to two things: firstly, changes in culture and lifestyles; and secondly, the sharp increase in public awareness regarding the inherent cruelty involved in dog racing.
Approximately 80% of UK greyhounds are bred in Ireland, therefore the Irish greyhound breeding industry are primarily dependent on the success of UK greyhound racing.
The greyhound racing industry has been established for over 91 years in the UK and in that time it has failed to prove that it takes the welfare of the dogs, from cradle to grave seriously and eradicate any problems.

I firmly believe sections of society should be castrated and not allowed to pass on their genetic material. However, just because I have belief doesn’t mean it will happen in reality.

I know, they well be very well cared for, and loved. But what happens to them when they're not fast enough. Or if they're not fast enough. There is no money or room to keep the left overs. For this reason, I am Out!!!!

Clover.N.Jones -aph North Carolina- yeah well every track I visit the dogs look in immaculate health. However some of the dogs I see on the street look terribly neglected. No doubt some of these would be owned by the nay sayers. How about everyone who wants to ban greyhound racing gets a visit from an animal welfare officer and hence come under the same scrutiny as the industry you scorn. No doubt would soon send some packing.

Educate yourself! For most of the time greyhounds are couch potatoes. Most get walked at least twice a day, get fed better than most children these days have better living conditions than a lot of people and are vet checked more than most other dogs and they sleep for 18 plus hours a day.

Yes I get you. But what happens to them after their race career is over? My recent retired greyhound only raced for a year. On average they live to 12 years of age. You need to set up funds for there retired life. The lucky one get a loving home. But so many are destroyed. Its all very well them being looked after whilst racing, but to then put a healthy dog down who may have pulled a muscle or out of form just doesn't add up.

Shame on anyone supporting greyhound racing! Vile and cruel! Thousands of greyhounds are killed, annually, because of it!

And peta and the rspca put animals to sleep because no one wanted them. Yeah atleast greyhounds have a longer home then 2 weeks. Since they're good at counting you should release the figures of what peta and rspca put to sleep. Funny we never see any of them figures. See everything else except what's in there backyard.
