  • @JohnnyLehti
    @JohnnyLehti 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi again! Maybe you remember me. Like he says at the end of the video, you need to do some cylinder and head work now to increase power and probably make a new pipe again. This engine is not designed for outright hp numbers but more for low end power and flat torque curve. I would like to know what port timings this engine has. From that i would calculate what could be a good port timing for a certain rev range and power goal. There is a lot more to get with a good cylinder and head work. I suppose you have seen what numbers my CR500/550 Liger produces and you should be able to achieve that too.
    Good luck!
    Johnny.

    Hey, I like how you guys film in 50fps, it looks really smooth and high quality. I have a quick tip that can make it even smoother, though, AND give you better low-light capability. Set your shutter speed to 1/60th of a second and lock it so auto-exposure can't change it. This will make motion blur much more natural since the human motion blur range is roughly between 1/40th and 1/60th. On top of that, 1/60th will allow you to film in NTSC countries without artificial lights flickering on camera.
    Alternatively, if you want to save a lot of hard drive space with minimal quality loss, you can do 30fps with a 1/50th shutter and have all the same effects(incl universal NTSC/PAL power frequency compatibility) But only do it as long as it's true 30, not 29.97 as that causes other issues with youtube: so check your camera's manual and do some Google-Fu to find out how to get true 30p on your camera!

    I bet the anemic 1979 CR125 can't beat this thing around the track with equal riders. Not that the 79 CR125 was a bad bike, it was Rider friendly. It had a torque motor and a decent mid-range punch. Sure you'll pull the hole shot but what about the rest of the track? Love your r&d keep it up bro that's what makes Motocross fun and fascinating

    Might look into port time I seen people shave the top of the cylinder and put a spacer at the bace to lift it back up which changes port time it makes more power at top end and will lose some at the bottom but it will gain hp if the ports are lower it most likely help because it's most likely built for bottom end so lift those ports

    I'd love to build a monster of a 2 stroke dirt bike one day... what compression ratio are you guys at? 10.3:1? 11:1? 9:1? Not 6.6:1? I'd love to find a old CR 500 or KX500 or RMZilla, YZ490 ect.... to build up! Find this veteran a blown up one with a decent frame. Be a fun project, I'll send the crank shaft to northern crank in thief river falls, mn to have it stroked to the max! Then the cylinder as well for full port n polish, next would be head work and to increase compression to the limits for pump gas. Worse case scenario always got aviation fuel because it's cheaper than race gas and it's 100 octane minimum no ethanol. 😉 looks awesome and has me motivated and thinking, keep up the good work with the build guys.

    Hi guys really cool build, but we’re getting 70 hp out of a modified KX 500 here in the states. I was a little disappointing I was expecting 80 hp and above out of a 700 cc Engine. There is a test and motocross action last year that had modified CR 500 versus modified KX 500. The KX 500 had massive horsepower and was rideable because of the power valve. Check it out

    If I ever lived in the EU and building a bike I would look up HGS. That said I was hoping that engine could do abt 80hp or better. back in the day when I had my Banshee it was right at 92 hp and it was only a twin 350 with aftermarket pipes ported engine w/rebuilt insides all high performance parts so this bike should be able to do close to that for sure.

    Max, have you thought about using special racefuel for two stokes? It would be the last consequence to get the last ponys out of the engine. If the cylinder is not coated with Nicasil, leaded gasoline will help, because a lubricant is created during combustion. If you all create such a dinosaur, then it also needs archaic fuel! Greetings Ilyas

    Double the base gasket it will move the power up and you wont notice much bottom end loss with a big bore, talk to the engine builder about compression ratios if you do the base gasket we have a lot of time racing big bore shifter karts the most current is a KTM 300 it pulls so hard all the blood in your head goes to your feet lol

      I read an mxa article about pipe making back in the day. All the top guys had a good understanding of what changes would do what. They would just get right to cutting up and welding up a new pipe based on what they wanted the power to do. Very much an art rather than science. Mostly cone shape and distance between front and rear cone.
