- In this video, I share some of the top essential Items that I bring with me when I hit the river. I'm skipping the obvious choices like rod, line, and reel and I will probably cover that in future videos.
Some of this gear is unique to euro nymphing but a lot of it will help when using more traditional fly fishing methods too. I'm 100% sure that I left other items off this list that are important, but these are the ones I feel like are essential to my everyday needs.
Let me know down below some of the items you can't live without?

Nice job. Essentials are important for peace of mind on the water. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
So true! Especially when euro-nymphing... last time i made a video, I forgot my box with most of my best euros! Luckily i had a buddy there to supplement, but still... close one!
Always nice when there is someone around to share :)
@@FlyingTies I always say, your never to old to learn something new everyday.
I agree 👍🏻
Excellent video. Now if I could just find that spot on that river. haha
Thanks! Yeah, I wish I could share but mum's the word :)
Great video bro
👍🏻
Love your vids ! Can you do one on how you setup your rod ?
Possibly in the future 👍🏻
Those bows were stunning. Never seen them that dark.
You should have seen them in person, so much darker honestly
Green polarized lenses all day 🤘🏼
👍🏻
Other obvious gear are waders and boots. Don’t skimp if you can help it. Gear from Orvis or Simms are good quality and typically last. I like Korker boots for their versatility to interchange soles. Their BOA lace system is great too. Use it and you’ll never go back to laces.
Yeah, I agree waders are for sure an essential piece of fly fishing gear. Thanks for watching!
Maybe I missed it, but I'd also include: Hydration (water bottle, or whatever), hat, rain jacket, and a thermometer.
Yup, all good things for sure!
Thanks so much for all the details! Mentioned on earlier request, but where did you get your Soldarini net…love the rubber mesh. I do not see the link to your net in the description. Great fishing instructor!
I picked it up from tactical fly fisher, but they have been sold out for a good amount of time now…
It'd be cool to show us how you organize your fly boxes too.
I may have to do that sometime soon
Probably a dumb question, but do the same size nymphs come in the different weights, or is the weight determined by the size. For example, Orvis has tungsten beaded nymphs, but the weight is not listed, only the size 12, 14, 16, etc. Not ready to tie my own yet. If it is better to use the same size with different weight, where do you recommend buying flies?
So most companies have a standard size bead that they will use for each hook size in their lineup. I personally fish mostly 14/16/18 size nymphs and find 16 to be the most common size overall. You can of course use a 3.5 through 1.5 size bead on a size 16 hook... so it really depends. I'm not sure if you have a fly shop in your area but I would suggest checking them out in person and getting a feel for each one. Hope that helps!
Hot fire
Haha thanks brother 😂
What kind of net are you using🤔
It's a Soldarini net that is currently out of stock everywhere I've looked... but keep your eye open
Are you fishing the Deschuttes river?
Thanks for watching! I'm leaving all location to the imagination as a rule on here.
What is your rod and reel combination…..great videos
My current setup is a 10’ 6” 3wt rod paired with a 5wt trout reel. Not sure if that’s what you are asking about though, I have so many rods 😂
what fly box is that?
Fulling Mill tactical max
Are you up here in Oregon too?
Yep
