She was so great she overshadowed one badass band. Those two guitar players never got the recognition they deserved because she was such a force. Not to mention all the other San Fran area guitar greats of the time-Carlos Santana, Jerry Garcia, Jorma Kaukonen, Michael Bloomfield, Elvin Bishop, Neil Young, Ronnie Montrose, John Fogerty, John Cipolina and Steve Miller among others. But Janis was a female Jimi Hendrix. They both came along once in the history of the world.
thank you for reacting to this video, this is one of my favorite performances of all time as are others of janice , she was amazing so sad she did not live to know how much people loved her
I remember reading that Cass Elliot and another band member would frequently go to hear other groups to check out the competition. She said every time they would agree the group was no threat. After hearing Janis perform this, they turned to each other and said "NOW we have to worry about competition"
I compliment you on ignoring the mind boggling fact that you played her and none of your viewers requested her again. You know when something is beyond great. Janis Joplin was a bright flame that was put out too early. I loved her. I was a teenager when I first heard her, and, like you it was when I saw this that I realized that she had to be seen live to get the whole picture.
THIS IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONGS! "GET IT WHILE YOU CAN" IS ANOTHER ONE...SHES A QUEEN! Also there is another version of Ball & Chain off her greatest hits! Bad as*
Me and Bobby McGee is a great song by Janis Joplin you should check it out. I'm pretty sure there is no live recording out there as I think she passed away between recording it and its radio release. But it is a classic.
You're right, Janis is best seen when she's live. I'd like to hear your react to Cry Baby where she played live in Canada. She has an electricity in her that no other performer can even touch.
we used to call this the Texas blues, (probably because she was from Texas), and nobody could do it like Janice, this live performance from the '68 Monterey pop Festival got her signed to her first label
She's my favorite. I love hearing you react to her. The emotions and energy she sings with. When I went through my divorce I felt as though she was sharing the pain with me I just love her
Janis Joplin Janis at the start I saw what I thought was it all She made me happy with a wet tear As it fell into my life then into my beer As time passed my tears became blood red, as she slowley died on Heroin From the god damn pusher man muzak' factory She took a piece of my heart with her when she passed But left me with a treasure of blues, that will forever fill my heart and allwayz' last. Forever. ♡♡♡ r.hascher 1/23/2021.
She was huge in America and mostly only in America back in the late 60s and early 70. She was recently voted the 3rd best singer after Arthea Franklin, and Tina Turner in popular music by many American music magazines and by popularity. So, she is well represented in America. It's a shame the rest of the world didn't really get to know her well
I had the privilege and pleasure of seeing Janis the last time she played at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco in 1969. She electrified the room and blew the doors off‼️. None of us were ever the same. A force of nature was she. Thanks for this. Yes her Summertime cover is superb and Me and Bobby M Gee for sure! Thanks for this✌️🦋
Janis had a vocal quirk where she could simultaneously sing in two octaves at once... and she had so DAMN much soul. Gone too soon. Great reaction. Check Cry Baby, and Summertime.
This is actually the SECOND performance of this song. Janis and Big Brother originally did the song that afternoon. DJ Pennebacker was happy with their set, but he didn't like the camera angles. He asked them if they wouldn't mind doing the song again. Janis and the band said "sure, why not". This is the second performance that made the film and is probably one of the greatest live rock n roll performances of all time!!!!!
Besides her incredible voice.... she suffered so much in her short life that shine through in her passionate performances. So much talent and so much pain. Bittersweet.... gone too young at 27.
Music from the time i grew up is the shit man. So many great bands from the 60s and 70s todays music cant compare. I was cruising around listening to 8 track tapes in those days. Janis was a unique singer. Its actually Big brother and the holding Company featuring Janis Joplin until she formed Full tilt boogie... Her music will live on forever...✌
and check out Bog Mama Thornton who wrote Ball and Chain. I fell in love with Janis as a 10 yr old little black girl when me and Bobbi McGhee was released. But u gotta know ur history...
This is actually the second concert they performed that day the people filming it didn't have the camera set up yet until after Big Brother and the Holding Company finished their set, and everyone in the band was whack out of their heads when they came back out to do this song, take notice the bass player was tripping his ass off, hear Janice just shot up so her singing could be a lot better.
Can't believe no one gave you suggestions, you're hard pressed to find a bad one. Here's a live one, Janis Joplin - Maybe Link: th-cam.com/video/caiBo_wTxrY/w-d-xo.html
Janis was an unknown talent at this time. Fortunately Phil Spectre was in the crowd; and he was so impressed that he signed her to her first record deal. Right place; right time. What a gift to music. What a gift to all of us. Gone too soon.
Clive Davis ruined Janis. He said Big Brother was a terrible band not worth her talent. Big Brother was raw and rough and that’s what made them perfect for Janis. They were freak rock; they were family. He tried to make her a plastic corporate xerox soul singer with the Full Tilt Boogie Band. But anyone who saw her with both bands recognize which was better suited to her and originality.

The lady in the crowd is Cass Elliot from the group the Mama's and the Papa's. Another amazing song by Janis Joplin is Me and Bobby McGee. 🦋✌🦋
I did not know that was Mama Cass
No shit.
@Joel Springman calm down it's just a song.
I remember reading that Cass Elliot and another band member would frequently go to hear other groups to check out the competition. She said every time they would agree the group was no threat. Her energy and passion goes right through me. I cry every time no matter how many times I hear it. No other artist has done this to me
Janis made the song famous, but it was written by Big Mama Thornton. You might want to check her out.
If only we could see and hear her perform again. Hope to meet her in heaven.
I wish I could have been there. Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix live at their absolute prime.
I compliment you on ignoring the mind boggling fact that you played her and none of your viewers requested her again. You know when something is beyond great. Thanks for reaching to this song.
Janis gave the kind of performances you could never truly capture on tape. Film may have been her real medium
A wow if ever there was one!☮️❤️

Try "Me & Bobby McGee." She sings the paint off the wall in that number also.
Check out Cass Elliott sometime, she was an amazing singer in her own right. Another one we lost too young.
