Unmesh, you are the master of tutorials. PLEASE consider a series on Illustrator. I can't find a teacher for Illustrator who makes learning as easy as you do.
@@flatheadprints Yeah that's true, but I find that's true of most tutorials. I don't mind it. He explains things in a way that makes sense to people who didn't spend years learning this software in school.
Great tutorial, I was not aware that they had updated this ! A quick tip to clean up the masks is to use the dodge / burn tool and set them to only affect highlights or shadows depending on what you need. I find this to be faster and that is gives a cleaner result than the normal brush. Thank you for all of your tutorials Unmesh!
Great to see you’re still taking great strides in your Photoshop career Unmesh :) Thank you for sharing 😊 Always enjoying your tutorials when they arrive!
Agree with all the positive comments - you are by far the best PS guru I have seen. And, if I may ask a question about a a specific problem I have - I photo a lot of art behind glass in galleries when I am not able to set up black backgrounds to eliminate reflections. To deal with this, I photograph from different angles and make a composite of the areas without reflection. Last week I had a "bright" idea to superimpose photos of the art and use blending modes to get the best bits. Unfortunately, I have a couldn't get it to work. I would really appreciate some advice 😊
Thank you PiXimperfect. Learn something new every time I watch your tutorials. Really like your style of teaching. The photoshop community owes you a lot.
Photoshop keeps getting better and better at masking hair but not without issue, thanks for showing us updates and what can be done. Now I wish I could send you a photo and see how good you are with the hair I have to mask. :-)
Please can u do a series on premiere Pro I've seen all the available videos, everyone would still appreciate a playlist tutorial like u have for photoshop with basics. 🥰 @@PiXimperfect
Unmesh! I signed up for Colorado Springs in January and I am heartbroken that I was unable to attended due to Covid. I hope someone on your waiting lists was able to take my spot. I hope you will return to Colorado or have a seminar in New Mexico, (live in Albuquerque, New Mexico) or Arizona in the future so I can meet you and take part in your seminar.
Whenever I use Refine Edge, the opacity of the edges drops to what I would describe as about 50%, making the edges very soft, ruining the selection. What am I doing wrong?
I sometimes use solid color adjustment and clipping it to the layer and painting it only where needed also brings back all the lost hairs. What's your opinion guys?
Great tutorial as always Unmesh, thank you, but I have a big problem...How can I mask only the whole hair (not the face/body) as it's done in Lightroom? Can it be done in Photoshop? Or is there a way to transfer Lightroom hair masks to Photoshop? Thanks again.
Since A.I is getting so much more efficient at solving problems than humans, I imagine it won't be long before A.I can identify the ideal technique for each situation and then automatically apply that technique, not even requiring a human decision to say, decide which part is a strand of hair and which part is the background, or even brushing in additional strands as necessary to complete the image realistically and naturally..
So I'm using ai in a different way for this problem...in the case of me doing my own composite. I do a rough selection of the hair and then use generative fill to fix it. It blends it perfectly cause it generates it with the background in mind. So automatically get decontamination and colour matching even rim lighting if needed. 😊😊
Unmesh, this is great but can you mask out an outdoor portrait that was shot on F6.3 in front of a tree in natural light with lots of color contamination!? We need to learn how to do that flawlessly.
I think I'm missing a step 🙃At 0:40, when I click Select and Mask, I don't see the wall layer beneath as in the video, but the upper model layer? I've watched the video over and over, but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Help! 😉
@@PiXimperfect I have all of the above, just like the video, but when I click Select and Mask I still see the upper isolated model layer and not the wall. Running the latest PS version, but it's clearly working for others - I just can't figure out what I'm missing 🤷I'll keep trying 👍
Unmesh, I am struggling with something I am hoping you can answer, I make grey scale/black and white graphic designs for laser engraving, I need to remove backgrounds but I dont want my image to be transparent (only the background) because i need the white and shaded areas of my PNG to show., how can I keep my image solid and only make the white background transparent? all my backgrounds are white, What can I do?
None of this is happening on my Mac. I always use the latest updates, but the remove tool isn't working. Generative fill is working, but when I use your plugin, it generates without any matching. It seems to work only on newer model computers. Mine is a late 2013 Mac Pro. 😭😭 Anyway, thanks for your tutorials. I've been using Photoshop since 1995, but you are my actual GURU.😅🙏🙏
I use this technique daily, but for over 6 months the refine edge tool has been causing massive Bitmapping with the mask and Adobe still cannot fix it and it's a real problem. I have had Adobe highest level of Support and all my Macs on various OS have the same issue as do colleagues, same on Beta as well. Any Clues on how to resolve this issue??? if you can it would demonstrate that you know more than Adobe😀. Thank Enmesh, love your work!
I've followed the steps, but after hitting select and mask, I don't see the select subject or refine hair. I have the most recent updated version. I have a background layer below my subject. I have the subject layer selected. I hit select and mask and I don't have those options on the top. My options are just zoom and fit on screen
Just tell me one thing..just one thing i wanna know sensei All your tricks and ways around this software that you show us,Did you get trained or did course on this software or You found out by Experimenting hit and trials!???? 😢
What I noticed is that everyone who do these tutorials, choose an image with a high contrast background where it can easily be removed. For once, please choose an image with a difficult background to remove and show us how to do that, because your method here, does not work on images that I want to remove the background from. Rather teach people that, than this easy stuff.
Did you say you were using Photoshop 25.7? I thought the latest is 25.10 now. But with all these Beta versions, it seems they're updated about every other day.
Ever since hair refining tools came out, the example images used were shot on a flat background. So I'm not going to let myself get excited about this until someone can do a video similar to this but with images against busier backgrounds.
When I click on Select and Mask, i do not get the background. It stays on the main image for me. Have tried everything and it just does not work. I'm using the latest version of PS. 😞
hey bro.. first of all i am your long time follower. you are doing an amazing job. thank you very much. I just noticed that you don't sound so happy in this video. It's none of my business, but I hope you're doing well. 🙂

You would sound a bit different if you traveled 24+ hours to return home and still managed to happily create free content for everyone to enjoy because it's important to him. However, Unmesh sounds great and is perfectly fine. Thanks again!
you are amazing, but you always make videos like this with a flat background or single color background which makes it easier somehow, the real challenge people face with a natural background, like fields in the background or trees, selection of stray hairs is always a challenge on those images. i hope you make one video with a more complex background.
Unmesh thank you so much for years of critical content.. may the algorithm forever be in your favor.

You don't have to always use it. Only when it doesn't get the edge fur.
Thanks again, Unmesh! I even remember other techniques to go with this! :D
I do not need to mask wisps of hair often, but I do often make subtle masks.
