I love that there was a time period that would allow a daughter to sit next to her loving father and say, “ I wonder if it would help, if I killed the man who did this to me.” and her father would not only listen, but take her seriously, consider it and discuss all the options. What a beautiful father daughter relationship.

I think at the very least it was mercy ... Brianna knew the biggest fear of bonnet and she didn’t want this to become true for him... she is so unbelievable strong.

Their “relationship” in the book was weird. She was with him longer than she was in the show and they slept in the same bed at night. She started cradling him when he had nightmares about drowning, almost as if she felt sorry for him. This made her shooting him in the head make a little more sense.

I’m currently reading the books. I have the first 4 in my possession. Bonnet doesn’t come in until book 5 from what I hear. I’ve also heard from those that have read the books, that there’s A LOT more that goes on between Brie and Bonnet. Not that she’s EVER to blame for being raped, but due to her lack of knowledge of the time period, she puts herself in precarious situations w Bonnet.
Ex: Any other woman would know NEVER to enter a pirates, or any man’s for that matter, bedroom quarters alone trying to barter for anything. Yet, she walks right in and says “There must’ve been some misunderstanding”. Yup.. you blue balled him. Now he thinks he has the right to rape you or he looks like a fool. NOT right, but that’s how women were treated back then. Ain’t no one guna help you in public...EXCEPT your daddy.
I’ve also heard she had a habit of wearing tight pants around Bonnet rather than proper ladies dress. Leading him on. Portraying herself as anything, BUT a lady, perhaps? Also a no no, i guess?
Im excited to read more. Feel free to give some of it away. I don’t get bothered over knowing ahead of time. I’ve just heard Brie and Bonnet had a ... closer (?) relationship perhaps, in the book than what the movie allotted for.
All I have is NETFLIX to watch it on. It’s been stuck on season 4 or 5 for years. You can only watch it so many times before you’re cussing at NETFLIX to hurry it up already!! 😂

Yes, she literally promises him that she will never let him drown. So it does make a lot more sense. I feel like on the show they wanted to play up the mystery of what her real motivation was; I've always thought it was mercy. Even if she hates Bonnet, she is a good person and feels empathy for him.

Except his death in the book was different.
Either Jamie or Roger rowed her out to where Stephen hung, she shot him, dropped the gun in the water, who-ever was with her, rowed her away.

The last bit at the end of the video still gives me chills. She says to Jamie “you don’t think my honor is worth trying to get back?” And I really wanted to argue for it and tell her what he meant but before I could the next clips started where she gave Bonnett a merciful death, killing him before he experienced his worst fear. But after everything she’d been through, I wouldn’t have done it. She’s better than me for that. I woulda let him suffer the same way she had.

true but honestly their relationship- bri and bonnets was portrayed way differently in the series than it actually was in the book. i think in the book their relationship becomes more “intimate” i guess in the scale of how they would act towards each other like them sleeping in the same bed and stuff and her comforting him in some moments that it was very clear in the books she shot him out of mercy and pity. bc she felt bad for him. i think the series just wanted to keep as close to the book as possible and kept bonnets death the same which made it seem very weird. but i think bc of how much internal anger bri had it was also fitting bc it was like she was taking her power back in the end.

@@tristanadger3525 very good points. i didn't read the book, but since the storyline in the book was more expanded and shows a more plausible reason why she shot him, yeah that makes sense...i still wanted him to drown tho!!!

I think she wanted to be the one who killed him, as closure, a final act of autonomy that he took from her. But it also was an act of mercy which made her the better person, she didn’t want to see him suffer because she knew how that felt. And in the end she pitied him,
