I was one of the 4 people that got an XR Elite so it's is $100 off of the Ultimate Trackers. I'm still looking at Tundra(I own an Index so I have light houses) or SlimeVR. Wish there was an open source equivalent of lighthouse trackers bringing down the cost.
If you already own a HTC Vive or a Valve Index I would say theres no point in going for anything other than Vives or Tundras but if you're on a Quest 2 or 3 I would go for SlimeVR
Some rectifications : - You may be able to use a single basestation, even if it's not efficient. - The maximum number of basestations you can use in a single playspace is 12. (2.0 basestations.)
Yeah, using only one basestation is not the way to go, but damn you can use up to 12 basestations? I googled and only found people saying it goes up to 4.
@@Gomme_EXE It's just overkill past 4 for a single room. In fact, it's already getting into overkill territory at 4. But with a basestation mounted in each upper corner of a room, occlusion more or less never happens. It's nice. Rarely people have more than 4 basestations, but that's always multi-room setups.
Your second point is absolutely false.... The maximum separate channels supported in steamVR is 16 not 12. But that is largely irreverent as only 4 of them will be utilized for timing data at any given time. This is a fundamental limitation of the tech currently. There is no "mod" that can overcome this fact. Any more than 4 are effectively on "standby" until one or more of the first (primary) 4 BS's are completely occluded, in which case it switched to others that have better line of sight. This process isn't perfect however. Ask any VR arcade tech and they'll tell you getting this setup perfect is hard. Every time it has to "switch" there's a chance for momentary de-sync causing Gray-screening which is very jarring and can cause motion sickness. Or in bad setups of if you're just unlucky it will drop out entirely. Using more than 4 BS's isn't meant to be done in a single, normal sized room. It's intended for *(1)* irregularly shaped spaces where 4 can't physically cover the whole area. *(2)* Multi room setups, where the user is navigating through entirely different play-spaces that have slight overlap. But still fundamentally only have max 4 BS's in each. Or *(3)* H U G E spaces where the lasers aren't strong enough to cover the whole area. (unless you live in a warehouse this isn't you...) Telling people to get more than 4 in 99% of cases isn't useful or in their best interest. 4 is _plenty_ and if you have issues then you don't have them setup properly, or it's something else in the setup causing reflections (It's not just glass, metal, plastics, and even just a hardwood floor with varnish can cause enough bouncing of the IR to cause bad tracking.) OR interference from your tracked objects to the dongles/ the dongles USB connection in your PC internally.
@@Feliai Yes, but you only mentioned drift. You didn't mention the complex setup process and the fiddling that most people need to do, on top of spending weeks really learning the nuances of the system.

@SargonDragon yeah thats what I have thought, 12 basestations just seems mega unnecessary lol

Ayyyy looks good gomme❤
switch joycons really arent that bad if you take a decent bit of time to fix the settings in slimevr and take some time for setup.

I still use my 1.0 basestations with my index controllers and a reverb headset, I wanna get leg tracking SO bad but I am sad about no blankets q.q
Not a big of a bummer tho
I spent like $900+ for my base stations and vive trackers
@@Feliai yeah it really feels like i did when slimevr is a thing
Like $450 or so for the 3 trackers and another $400 for the 2.0 base stations
@@Feliai well either A they are marked up on amazon or B, valve is getting greedy
isn't true that slime vr can be used without a pc and just standalone?
Yes, as far as I know you only need your phone to connect them to your standalone headset.
Just to note: SlimeVR is cheap for a reason. It is still challenging to work with and isn't going to be as seamless as lighthouse trackers.
