      yeah the only thing holding us back so far is oculus and epic dropping the ball on the vr industry. thats why the games are all such poor quality they support only mobile render pipeline EVEN FOR DESKTOP its total crap vr has been cast aside as some afterthought or some little side feature to a main game. and for this reason the cycle continues. no eye catching vr games nobody wants to play. since theres no eye catchy vr games vr sales are staying low. since sales are staying low due to xbox 360 level graphics support vr market is seen as not viable. oculus has done NOTHING for the vr industry since meta took over. their branch on unreal engine is multiple engine versions behind and even those versions are still delayed for months when they come out nothing new has been added and in fact its entirely unusable for anything. its full of new bugs no fixes and i honestly don't understand it's reason for existing at all. epic is taking ages to implement any needed features for vr like lumen nanite and nvidia's frame generation and dlss finally got added after ages but i hear only some things of that support vr. vr will not become what it fully could be for another few years at least. we need dlss and frame generation and nanite and lumen all working together in vr if we want ready player one style graphics. i think more developers also should adopt daz3d models or similar quality to increase longevity of the project's content releases and have a nice pool of artists to try to contact for more work to be made. daz3d is a constantly stacking system. that means that you can take a genesis 1 2 3 8 9 any number and use fitting tools to fit them to the other models so that as the game gets older you don't have to gut the entire system out to add some new uplifts like sick clothes or weapons from the new genesis series. i personally have spent thousands on daz3d and ill be producing a vr game soon with it. think imvu meets vr chat but everything is free for clothing and its basically a giant arcade with every game mode i can pack into it.

    Doing VTuber stuff, great product! For VR, I think Sony wasn't anticipating the VR community to get ahold of these. It's a good thing they have! Buuut.... yeah, it's gonna take some time for them to discuss doing that. Plus, with Cover Corp (hololive Production) backing it, they don't do too much VR stuff, it would only help a handful of their current talents. I would love to see more hololive VTubers get into VR! I think they weren't designed for that. They tried to retrofit VR into it. Tracking ≠ motion capture, and these are clearly designed with game engines in mind. This form of full-body tracking is really interesting and the fact that you can use these for multiple functions makes it very useful and surprisingly affordable for what it is, I’m hoping to see more updates for the software later on so that we can have better tracking for those who want to use this standalone for other applications

    I ordered Haritora Wireless recently but i was super hesitant because i didn't know if Mocapi was going to be better or worse as an IMU tracker for VRChat. I'm relieved with my decision but i'm kinda sad that Sony didn't live up to VR expectations right off the bat. I have high hopes for improvement with MoSlime in the future though! This is a big step with big brands coming into the market after all.

  • @Limit19970
    @Limit19970 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I use Vive 2.0 trackers myself, but a couple months back a friend who doesn't have base stations was looking to get full-body for VR and they asked me what I would recommend. They are quite tight on money, and they spend a lot of time in VR socialising and hugging friends, so I quickly became focused on IMU based tracking for the lower costs and convenience of not needing Line-of-sight. After doing some research into SlimeVR, Mocopi, and Haritora X, I came across videos that suggested that Mocopi was very poor quality by comparison to the other two, due to poor tracking accuracy, delay, and drift, dependency on a phone, and supposedly needing to recalibrate out of VR.
    I ended up recommending they get Slime as it was the most cost effective option, and seemed to have the best quality tracking out of all IMU options, and the easiest setup. This video confirms what I had thought, and increases my confidence that I made the right choice in recommending Slime to them.
    One day when I upgrade from Vive 2.0, I'll either get Tundras, or Slime, or both if money's permitting, or the Vive inside-out trackers. Though there may be new solutions on the market by then.

      Getting Vive and Tundra trackers to work on a non base station-tracked headset is always going to be a huge pain.
      There are special versions of OVR Space Calibrator that allow you to auto-calibrate the trackers by sticking an extra tracker on the headset itself. But the only headset that supports this workaround to my knowledge is the Quest 2. Nothing else. So at the end of the day, if you want the best full-body tracking available, it really is best to get a headset that is also base-station tracked like an Index, a Beyond or a Vive Pro. It's just too infuriating to get working reliably otherwise.
      This is a major reason why I'm ditching my Reverb G2 and I've preordered a Bigscreen Beyond. I'm at my wit's end constantly needing to recalibrate everything, yet Vive and Tundra's tracking blows everything out out of the water in terms of accuracy and speed. Slimes aren't as accurate as Vive or Tundra and the accuracy of the slimes deteriorate significantly over time. So switching over to Slime doesn't really fix the fundamental problem. It just moves the problem somewhere else. Moral of the story is that in the end, you get what you pay for.

    I'm feeling frustrated about living in 2023 with the current state of technology. Sometimes, I can't help but yearn for a future that is a hundred or two hundred years ahead, where technological advancements are far more advanced. As a 33-year-old, I have a strong intuition that when I reach my 70s, technology will truly begin to thrive and offer incredible possibilities.
    One concept that particularly captivates me is the idea of transferring my consciousness into an AI robotic body. The thought of experiencing life through such advanced technology is truly thrilling. Imagine the potential it holds for exploring and colonizing the galaxy, encountering extraterrestrial life, and discovering the wonders of other planets. I wholeheartedly support and embrace this concept.
    However, I also recognize the value of the present moment. While it's natural to yearn for the future, it's important to appreciate the technological advancements we have today. Progress is an ongoing journey, and each step forward lays the foundation for even greater achievements in the future. The developments we see now are shaping the path towards the extraordinary possibilities that await us.
    So, while I eagerly anticipate the future and the boundless opportunities it holds, I also strive to embrace the present and the unique technological advancements of this era. It's a delicate balance between appreciating the present and eagerly anticipating the marvels that lie ahead.

    To clarify at 6:03, the only part of that video done by ZRock35 is the model on the right hand side; the mocopi vs HaritoraX 1.0 comparison is by 猫ノ又あおい (th-cam.com/video/AOF0X8Ibh1g/w-d-xo.html).
    ZRock35's video was unclear with this if you didn't read the description, so I want to make sure the original creator gets credit!

    If Mocopi could turn the wrist trackers into elbow ones for the quest usage, to make up for the fact that the controllers already cover that area (as well as some not too shabby hand tracking in the quest line in my exp, even in vrchat once you work out what gestures do what actions), I think I'd be fully sold.
    From the ease of use, transport, charging, and capability it has if it uses better software like what SlimeVR provides, I see a lot of potential, as long as it gets enough support to meet or pass the current market.
    The main draw for Mocopi is definitely the way they've designed the system, clicking into straps and back into the case to charge like wireless earbuds, extremely clever.
    But this ease of use needs to follow with quality in tracking in the places the most customers would use it, and considering the current, unmodded quality of VRChat usage for instance, which I view to be a huge casual market for this sort of use, and the fact that competitors can give me cheaper tracking of a similar nature that functions better, even if it's a little more tedious to charge, I'd say the current outlook may be rough for Mocopi, at least until they can catch up Quest compatibility wise ^^'
    I have high hopes, but I think I'll stick with figuring out if I can buy SlimeVR with ankle, knee, waist, and elbow trackers (as I'm not too fussed on the exactness of the waist, but badly want the elbow trackers so I can express myself with my arms properly without them bending weirdly, hah)

  • @zig131

    Totally plausible that, if Mocopi does well, Sony could release a Mocopi pro that incorporates additional trackers.
    Slime being Open Source, they could also just use that code but it seems that the VR functionality is definitely secondary to the performance capture.
    It looks so good on the phone as it's basically 3-DOF. Slime assumes HMD and controllers are accurately tracked positionally in space and locks the IMU-only tracked points to them to restrain drift. Whereas MOCOPI can just fix to a point in space.

    These are amazing, I just wish they were half the price. For 200 dollars, I'd be capable of stomaching the cost. I mainly would want it for Unity usage and general purpose motion capture, so the VRChat problems aren't a big dealbreaker for me, especially since it seems clear it can be fixed

  • @Vysair
    @Vysair ปีที่แล้ว

    That means, VRChat is the issues not the tracker as it can work perfectly fine in the game engine. Maybe something fundamentally is broken in VRChat or the connection layer for compatibility.

  • @RurouTube
    @RurouTube ปีที่แล้ว

    I assume the normal way to connect Mocopi to VRChat is still using Phone and not connecting directly to PC or Quest? I think what Sony need to do is to generate the required data for VRChat derived from the actual animation result instead of passing the raw tracker data (which probably what it does right now?), so basically generate the resulting motion and then get the extra data required from it (like knee, etc, basically adding virtual tracker). I don't think it is a hard thing to do, just will add a tiny bit of latency since instead of passing raw data, it need to generate extra data first.

  • @Flapjck

    really weird that it doesn't work that well for VR considering Sony also has the PSVR2. Assuming you already had the ps5, it'd be quite a good deal for PC quality VR.

    Yo thrill I have a question:
    I live in Europe (Germany) and want to get into full body tracking since I enjoyed VR for over 2 years now. But in Europe I really don't feel like there are nearly as many or as good options as in the US. It is eighter not sold here and therefore incredibly overpriced to get my hands on, or takes over halve a year to get delivered.
    Any tips?
