One from the category honorable mentions: animal crossing pocket camp complete just came out. Its basically the offline version of the gacha game animal crossing pocket camp, which ran for seven years. While being a f2p gacha, it was a grindfest from hell, dressed as a cute cozy game. Now they have removed all monetization and for a asking price of now 10 (soon to be 20) bucks, you actually get a cute cozy animal crossing to go. All items are now obtainable via in game currency which is handed out pretty generously. While the practice of monetizing games with gacha mechanics is questionable, to say the least, i think nintendo has done something cool here. Normally, these games are just taken offline and are dead and gone, leaving a lot of people, that put tons of hours (and money) sad and disappointed. Giving those people the option to transfer their progress to an offline version and continue playing, is pretty cool, also from a games preservation point of view.
Oh yes, I remember reading about the f2p version closing down. It's honestly almost unreal that Nintendo created a paid version and let us all transfer over our save data. I didn't see that coming. And yeah, it's too bad Honor of Kings didn't live up to all the expectations. And yeah... whether this year was good or bad for mobile games depends a lot on what genres you like, I think.
