I love your no-nonsense recipes, easily explained with some good cooking tips or sometimes reminders thrown in. In these hard times we all need a little cloud of comfort on our plates!

Corr, haven't had that in ages.
I remember reading about a café; in Glasgow I think, back in the 50's. It was meant as a children's café & adults had to be accompanied by one. One of their most popular dishes was "Zeppelins in the clouds" which was sausage & mash. & if you wanted the clouds "rainy or stormy" that meant extra gravy. Ever since reading it we've called sausage & mash Zeppelins in the clouds as I think its a great name for the dish. I now also call the addition of peas as "bombs".
Great video, you keep on reminding me of favourites that I've not made in a while. all the best to you, your family & the channel.

This is one of my favourite meals. I like it with baked beans. It's hard to find really good sausages here in Canada unless you go to one of the British speciality shops which are, unfortunately, few and far between.

I’ve considered starting a TH-cam channel and calling it food for bachelors or dads cooking. Anyway I think you have nailed the spirit of what I had in mind; simple, cheap, easy and tasty food which doesn’t require any fancy and hard to get ingredients and can be cooked by anyone. I’d be happy to share my ideas/recipes with you.

Your sausage and mash with onion gravy looked absolutely scrumptious! I think I must have missed your recipe for Yorkshire pudding, so I'm off to look at that video now. :)

You seem to have a knack for making gravy! This one looks as good as the beef one the other week. Keep up the good work :-)

I agree, I like the idea of using a reduction, it will also intensify the flavors- Great idea.

Thanks for the ingredient list singledad. I know it will improve.
Thank you. This recipe is very familiar to me as it was a staple in my young years on the
small farm in western Massachusetts. I use it often.
What i picked up from my dad back then, much to the chagrin of my mom, was the mixing of the mashed with the peas, and in most cases the corn.
To this day, I seldom have mashed without mixing in peas, corn or both.
I'm an absolute potato freak so any recipes that you have with tates has my attention.
    My ancestors are from Kerry.

That’s for me this week, didn’t know you could thicken by reduction. Everybody else says add flour but I find that it can impart a flavour I’m not too keen on. Thanks very much.

That's just it, isn't it? People need to budget in these trying times, but that doesn't mean we can't eat good. The mash, the bangers, the gravy and the peas (I highly approve of peas) will fill a person up right and not bust the bank. I like it....

Yum! I have never made or had a true onion gravy . Love Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes and peas. I am not sure what kind of sausage that is here in the states. I didn't try bangers and mash when we were over in Scotland or England. Will be sharing with My son who loves them.
    Thanks from across the pond!

I used Cumberland Sausages, but what ever sausages you and your family like best are the ones to use when you try this.
