They all called eachothers food bland but sausages and mash potatoes is plain 😂
Depends how you make the sausages and the quality of it. None of the mothers made the sausage themselves so it's already going to be not the culinary experience of a lifetime, but also in a lot of cases the mash cancels out the flavour of the sausage, the gravy ties everything nicely up together and maybe some peas or green beans!

I put garlic, black pepper and cilantro in my mashed potatoes. My oldest likes plain food so I always put a portion on a plate for her before I "season" my potatoes

meh, according to all the moms, the key issue is quality of the sausage - which they didn't make themselves, so it's all down to what each family is used to.
I think the only issue is Marian doesn’t know what good sausages are. Nobody liked her sausages and she was the only one that had a problem with the other two.
Agree! In my case, I like my sausages from very specific brands, so of course I'm gonna be a bit bias about how they should taste like. Everyone's taste is different and that's okay.

Giving me flashbacks of free school dinners 🥴😩which prompted me to ask my mom as a kid WHY I was born here and not Jamaica like everyone else🤣 This British cuisine is really just ‘boil it and slap it on a plate’ and these people really killed for spices and seasonings that they never even went on to use. If I don’t laugh I’ll fucking cry!🤦🏽♀️
Spices have been used for a long time in British food. A lot more than in French food. Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, mace, saffron, bay leaf and black pepper have been used for centuries. What British food is not is hot. There is usually no heat in British food. *Well made* British food is delicious - Shepherd's pie, fish and chips, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, English trifle, jam tarts and yes, even bangers and mash. I can go on.

The British were lucky (bullish) enough to be at the forefront of the spice war and WE got our fair share much earlier than other parts of the world. We have become accustomed to most of our food having 'a touch" of something. We live we learn we elevate. Check Tom Kerridge for a better explanation 🤘🏽

@@griff7887 Funny you should say that because as someone who grew up with English food, I spice my mince before doing shepherd's pie. The only thing wrong here is the one putting carrots ontop of a shepherd's pie. That basically makes it a cottage pie.

the more butter you put in the mash the better it gets, it also has to have plenty of white pepper, salt and rich thick caramelised onion gravy. Thick sausages from a proper butcher, slow cooked so they are all sticky golden brown

She's right! I always use evaporated milk and real butter in my mashed potatoes. I make my gravy from scratch. No canned stuff here in Virginia, only southern style! Yummmerz! 🍽️😋 Never had sausage with it though... Gotta try this one day. It seems like it's filling🤗
