- I couldn't find a tutorial on the handbrake CABLE adjustment for the mighty BA Ford Falcon, so here it is!
MAKE SURE TO USE JACK STANDS AND WHEEL CHOCKS AS YOU HAVE TO RELEASE THE HAND BRAKE TO DO THE JOB...
Needed that video, very helpful to see before doing doing it, or getting it done by a mechanic, cheers!
Glad it helped
It’s called the banksia park brake design right here in Australia.
Big tip, adjust the foundations (shoe assembly inside the disc ) first and if necessary then the cable. This is for AU-BF
For FG-FGX same as before but when doing the cable , pull the cable rearwards as hard as you can first , hold the tension and then adjust the slack in the cable . The reason is these models have a self adjust tensioner in the handbrake lever mechanism,
If you look at the park brake levers on the backing plate they shouldn’t have move away from the backing plate in the released position, adjusting the cable is only for taking the slop out the cable and not for pulling the levers out more.
If you want more information about Fords in general I’m an ex Ford dealer mechanic, who went out on their own.
Big a big thumbs up for your DIY , that’s how you learn (hopefully not from making mistakes)
ironic, that park brake from Banksia Park! I grew up in Adelaide.
Thanks man, this has saved me a fair headache.
Should definitely do a rear brake disc video as well, can't seem to find any decent ones anywhere
NPS Man, glad it helped! What's the drama with the discs?
Nice video mate, thanks for the tip.
I'm going to pull the rear discs off in another vid...
Thanks good stuff.mine needed adjustment as well.churr bro
I've made another video on the rear brake setup if you have further issues, like a swooshing noise coming from the RHR...
Cheers mate, my handbrake wasn't engaging today and decided to have a crack at it myself. Your video helped me out allot. Can't thank you enough mate.
Glad it helped
Good job Mate
no wucken furries mate! Hope it helps...
Cheers 👍
You're welcome!
Legend 👍should of added a handbrake skid at the end
damn.... That would have been perfect!
How many clicks do you adjust the handbrake lever to?
I have counted seven clicks from released, with a firm pull. I couldn't find a spec, but it feels fine there and locks the wheels when moving.
@@mattjacomos2795 I did mine to 5 clicks with a firm pull, 4 clicks otherwise. Been told between 5-9 clicks, dont know how accurate that is though, at least I dont roll down the driveway anymore.😂
Sometimes this adjusting is not working,if little pin come outh from lach slot.I have had this isu few times, because one wheel was engaged but another one not which take time to remove caliper, rotor and put pin back in slot and brake shoes has springs which will operate properly with nob adjustment. Problem is little pin is in lach 3 or 4 mm and when he come outh adjusment under car is waisting of time which is ford very bad dizajn.
there was an earlier comment made that the brakes should be adjusted from the rear wheels BEFORE adjusting the cable length as in my video .In another vid I have dived into the rear brake setup and sorted the noise from the brake.
Correct way is to adjust the shoes.
yeah, you're probably right. I'll pull off the discs and do another video after i finish my current project(s)...Thanks for watching!
Incorrect.
This is why 90% of all falcons and territories have stretched handbrake cables.
You need to back that centre connection off, remove rear wheels, adjust the shoes till lock up, back it off a couple turns so the wheels spins at least twice before stopping by itself, then go back to the centre and slowly tighten the joiner whilst continuously checking the handbrake levers action till you get full lock up at 5 clicks.
I did the best I could with the information available. I did do another video with drum adjustment after this one... How do you adjust the shoes with the drums on?
Sure doesn't look like a Au cable setup. Ford builds a shit product, we deserve better.😢
It's basic, but the thing is it LASTS. and there's no unnecessary computers like stuff from 2005 onwards... At least you can work on them.
