Omg... Kevin and Kelly's debt free scream had me grinning throughout the whole segment. Every time I see a debt free scream I'm so happy for them and so proud of them even though I've never met any of these people. ❤️
On my bucket list within the next 5 years is to go travel with my husband to Nashville to do a debt free scream. Currently on baby step 3.🙌🏽🙏🏽

Dave mentioned to the woman in Portland OR with two young children that she should only buy a house on a 15 year mortgage where the payment is a quarter of the take home pay. In Portland in 2024, the average home price is about $530k. So including taxes and insurance, the payment would be $4148 per month, and she would need a gross income of $265,000 per year. Let that sink in. That's what she would need to buy the average house with Dave's guidelines, even with 20% down. Dave has helped a lot of people, but the rigid thinking around this topic has room for improvement.

They get insider information and manipulate markets to better their interests. They send billions of American tax payer dollars oversees. What would happen to you if you were in trillions of dollars of debt? No one is held accountable. Frivolous spending and printing creates runaway inflation. I've spent my career in the nonprofit sector (which absolutely has some major problems). I briefly worked in corporate PR and it is ruthless though much higher paying. I felt like I was paid to tell lies and make things look pretty and keep people looking the other direction. In my current nonprofit role, I feel good about telling stories of people who have received services during low points in their lives and bringing awareness to major issues plaguing our country and my state specifically. It's not about thinking I'm holy. It's about not feeling icky at the end of the day just for a bigger paycheck.

It's paid via taxes from the employees and employers. Where I live, each parent can take 12 weeks of parental leave for newborns, moms have 2 weeks to take for Prenatal care, and you can take 2 or 3 months off to care for a sick close relative or your own illness. There's also 16 weeks of FMLA instead of the federal standard of 12.

The new attorney lady. I think she is wanting to do the prosecutor side and spoke of the need there related to they have less people go that way. That is because they pay a lot less. Always have, and that's why it's hard to fill those slots. I would say to her, if she does defense for a while, it will give her an angle when she does go to the other table. She will know the real playbook over there more. And, just because someone is charged with something doesn't mean they are ' the bad guy.' Plenty of people unfortunately need defended against overzealous police, prosecutors, and AG's. It's all about balance, right? Some have lost sight of that and go just for numbers, and the truth gets left aside sometimes. Sometimes, not all the time. Plenty of bad guys need to get got also..

In the last 40 yrs never paid cc interest nor car loan. All it took was to tank my credit at 23 with a new car loan . I screwed my credit so bad I promised myself I’d never give these thieves outrageous interest rates again and never make a card purchase I couldn’t pay off in 30 days . A big help was I quit drinking and smoking 24 yrs ago , so the math on booze 🥃 and cigarettes. I’m ashamed to admit I do have a small car loan now but it was a smoking deal on a 4 yr old Camry with lo lo miles and I put half down $250/mo very manageable. And is someone really going to hand over 50K to a stranger and just “hope” they pay the note so you get title free and clear? My advice: take a 10k loan, sell car to CarMax. Pay note, buy a beater car with difference. Use that $800/mo to pay off loan in 1 year. 10k loan better than 50k.

So, it only lost 11% of its value (private party) or 23% (trade-in), NOT 60%. Either Dave's numbers are way off, or Accords hold their value extremely well. It doesn't matter to me, however, because I don't plan on getting rid of it. This is the fourth, and hopefully last, car I've owned...it is my "dream" car.
