    Schumi was winning the race and would be on front for the last race, in Brazil. With that engine failure he dropped to second and was 9 points behind Alonso. It pratically ruined his title chances so yes, it was a big thing :)

    Could you do like a Michael Schumacher career mode? I mean like, go into championship season on this game with Schumacher, retire after that season, then carry on into the 2010s for his return.

    Ben I don't know why you have turned the Traction Control off all of a sudden, that's why you are struggling with Traction & why you had that crash on Lap 1, cars are meant to have Traction Control on in this game like they did in 2006

    Schumacher was leading the championship for the first time that season on countback coming into this race, having announced his retirement at Monza, and had the engine failiure whilst leading. Alonso won, which meant that in Brazil Schumacher would have had to have won with Alonso failing to score. A fantastic end to one of the greatest seasons in the modern era.

    I like how they have test driver in this game and how you can be a team's test driver and then possibly earn a drive, it's much more realistic that way.
    Also I like how they keep the driver you replaced as a test driver so you've constantly got the worry that they might take your place, or when you leave you'll know why they've come back. Codemasters need to put this in F1 2016, among other things.

  • @corntorteeya86

    Why is this game so much better than the newer ones? The presentation, the gameplay, everything.

    The AI tend to divebomb if they're close behind you, so if you know they are there, try to get the hell out out of their way or brake later too, it's what you have to do sometimes to avoid them crashing into you. Keep Traction Control on 3 or maybe 2, but never at 1, same for brakes, it will keep your tyre wear down and make the car more stable in general.
    You need to change your gear ratios a lot more than you do, bouncing off the Rev limiter on so many straights is losing you heaps of time. Also a trick in this game to shave off some time, was to always accelerate from 4th gear, surprised no one has told you this yet. It really makes a difference basically never going below 4th gear for any corner.

    In regards to Schumacher's engine failure in 2006, it was significant as he and Alonso were level on points before that race. Alonso won in Japan as a result and had a 10 point lead heading into the season finale at Interlagos over Schumacher.

    the 2006 Japanese was about the second best race in F1 in the mid to late 2000s. Schumacher had the point lead, needed to win at Japan to be champion by just a few points. Coming into the crossover, the engine gave up, and so did the hopes at an 8th championship. That race, that heartbreaking moment as smoke billowed from the back of the car and slowly stopped, made many realize time from Monza and the announcement, to the last race. was just a few days away. It was time to say "Goodbye" to the legend

  • @RBenjo21
    @RBenjo21 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You're right, this was the famous incident in 2006. With two races to go Schumacher and Alonso had 116 points each. After overtaking Massa at the start Schumacher had the Japanese Grand Prix in the bag, but a slow puncture for Massa and Schumacher's engine failure gifted the race to Alonso.

  • @MarkoPejic14
    @MarkoPejic14 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You should really start watching some season highlights from the 90s and the 2000s, as they had really intense racing :)
    Concerning the Japanese GP 2006:
    Schumacher was equal on points with Alonso coming to this race, but he was leading because he has won one race more than Alonso (7 to 6).He was then comfortably leading the race after his and Alonso's final pitstops and on lap 37 his engine blew up (which was funnily enough his first engine failure since the French GP in 2000). Meaning that Alonso had a 10 points lead for the final race, but would have been beaten if Schumacher was to win with Alonso not scoring points. So yeah, it was a big thing :D

    Yes, it was this race in 2006 that Schumacher had the engine failure. He was like tied with Alonso on points, and he was 1st and Alonso 2nd on the race, so when MSC retired, Alonso had a 10 point lead over him with one race to go, and he ended up winning the championship by 13 points.

    Basically regarding the Schumacher retirement issue. It was at this race, he was leading the race I believe and the championship because Alonso had retired from Monza which Schumacher won, the previous race. After making his pits stop Schumacher's engine started to smoke and eventually retired at the end of degna 2. Which handed the lead of the championship back to Alonso.

    Schumacher and Alonso went to Japan with the same number of points 116, Schumacher was leading the race, Alonso was 2º and Schumacher had that engine failure, and i think Schumacher didn´t have an engine failure since the 2000 French GP so it was a big thing haha

    Yes, Schumi had the engine failure at this race in 2006. They were even on points coming into this race with Alonso. Schumi was leading the race comfortably but then the engine failed some 20 laps before the finish and Alonso went on to win the race and almost secure the drivers champs. It was his first engine failure in many years and I remember how dissapointed I was back then..

  • @DerEinzige21
    @DerEinzige21 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    to answer your question, yes, Schumacher did have an engine failure at suzuka, which he was on his way to win and close the gap to Alonso. had he won in Japan, he wouldn't have needed so many points to make up in Brazil.

    In 2006 Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso were tied on 116 points each going to the final 2 rounds.
    Alonso won the race thus taking a 10 point lead into the final round in Brazil.
    Schumacher retired on the 37th lap of the race meaning that Alonso needed just 1 point to guarantee a 2nd title in Brazil.
    What is significant is the fact that this was the first engine failure for Schumi since the French GP 2000 so over 6 years without an engine failure and then KABOOM!

  • @CheapAbyss
    @CheapAbyss 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Schumacher's engine failure was at Suzuka in 2006. He was winning the race and that meant that he was 4 points ahead of Alonso coming to the last round. Although, his engine died (the first time in at least 5 years), Alonso won the race and then the championship.

  • @TheodorBsson

    The engine failure in Japan 2006 for Schumacher was pitviotal since he was in front of Alonso at that stage in the race... had Schumacher finished that race it would have gone down the wire in Brazil, but since Schumacher's car broke down that increased Alonso's lead to 10 points, meaning he basically won the championship at that point...

    You'd be a hard driver for a team to judge. Very fast at times (wins at Monaco and Hungary) but a tad inconsistent and a bit mistake-prone. Overall though, putting an STR on P6 in 2006 is a great result.

  • @dantheracer16
    @dantheracer16 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah the 2006 Japanese Grand Prix has Schumi leading comfortably after Massa seeded the lead to him early in the event. Had he won that, he would have been in cruise control in Brazil en route to the championship. With the rare engine failure though it meant that Alonso won and the gap was 10 points going to Brazil; in other words he had virtually no hope!
    Just like the Codemasters game your engineer stays the same your whole career. I agree it would be cool to have a new engineer in each team you drive for, even having th real life engineers would be a bit of a hoot.
    Would love to see you start at the back of the grid in Brazil Ben! Nothing like a challenge mate.

Alonso went on to win the race and Schumacher, being 10 points behind with 1 race to go, had admitted defeat and said Alonso had the Drivers Championship won.

      +RAYNERPS3235 No Schumacher and Alonso were even on points going into Japan, but Schumacher was officially ahead. With the win in Japan, Schumacher would have been two points ahead of Alonso. So yes, Schumacher would have been favourite. With how things ended off in Brazil, Alonso would have won by a single point. Had Schumacher not had the puncture in Brazil, he would likely have been on the podium, and would have been able to win the championship, even if they had been equal on points.

    You should buy an old Logitech G25/G27, they're relatively cheap now, and the handling in this game is quite nice with a wheel.

    In the 2006 japanese GP Schumacher had the engine failure, without that, he would have been 1st for the last race (if I remember well he was actually first), but that ruined is very big chance to have the 8th world championship. In the last race, he had still the possibility to win the championship, but in extreme cases (even more than 2007 last race).

    • @anthonyiuculano6002
      @anthonyiuculano6002 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MrMikpik Had he finished first in Japan, he wouldn't have needed extreme circumstances to win the title. With Alonso second in Brazil, he would just have needed to finish in third, and it would have been enough. He would have had a good chance of doing that if not for the puncture.

    • @MrMikpik
      @MrMikpik 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anthony Iuculano that's what I said... extreme circumstances needed when he retired.

      I wasn't sure of you were talking about the way it actually ended up being or the way it COULD have been had he won the race in Japan, LOL. Nonetheless, it would have been relatively easy had he not had the engine failure..

      Anthony Iuculano yep, so sad for me at the time when it had the failure.
