Thanks! What’s funny is doing it JL/RotJ would actually have been easier because the outfit doesn’t change neck-down, haha. Maybe I outdid myself! One thing many don’t realize is that even both of those designs aren’t the same. JL had yellow teeth and eyes but kept the bluer-tinted hair from TNBA, while RotJ gave him pristine white teeth and eyes but more BTAS-style greener hair.

I keep raking my brain on why they changed him and it hit me: dehumanize him so kids who think he's funny are also still scared of him. take away the lipstick to make him less goofy and more menacing. But for some reason CHANGE NOTHING ELSE ABOUT HIM.

That "Oh no" from Joker cracks me up more than it should. The casual way he says it without the fear or worry you would normally expect makes it way funnier.
I think every Joker should make a laugh, at least a little bit, some Jokers are just too dark, I get it, he's a crazy maniac but he's also supposed to be a clown.

I had a love and hate relationship with TNBA. I appreciated the facelift of certain character designs. Some of them were much needed while others were sins.
Same here. I preferred some of the redesigns of the characters for TNBA, while others I absolutely hated and thought they looked better in the original animated series. Joker was one that I hated.
Ok, this looks amazing! Great job on the editing, I never liked his design in that season of Batman: The Animated Series. I get what they were going for when I read that book, they wanted him to look like a grinning skull but honestly The Mask is basically a green big headed skull that grins. Your edit actually makes this design look a bit better imo.

On paper, the “skull” design was a cool idea, but… as you’ve so brilliantly demonstrated here, the loss of those giant yellow eyes was always a handicap for expressions that did justice to Uncle Mark’s voice acting.

Friends - Remember that weird time in the late 90's when Joker lost his green hair and red lips, as well as had his eyes turn into white dots on black? The New Batman Adventures was a wild time, making some designs better, and some, such as Joker, (in my opinion) worse. Now we have a glimpse at what could have been! Here we have a re-coloring/re-animating project I've been working on to make Joker more in-style with his previous Batman: The Animated Series design, along with his exact same color scheme (ripped from his palette in Harlequinade). I know many were a fan of the TNBA look, and that's okay, so this is for folks like me who wish Joker retained more of his classic iconic features that were enjoyed when he first appeared in the DCAU. :) Hope you enjoy!
I think the reason why the TNBA look for Joker, with the black eyes, was done was because how conceptually in black and white it works but in color with the black eyes it doesn't work. What I mean is if you read Batman:Animated by Chip Kidd and Paul Dini, when you get to the TNBA concept art, it is all black and white drawings with ink as the colors. And we see with characters like Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and Bane, the black coloring takes over the designs, and if you see Joker, it works in black and white in that noir style. Like if light was cast to his face in a way that covers his eyes but his pupils shine out. But once you try to color that with non black/white colors, you get a weird mickey mouse dude who doesn't look good. So hats off with the video
This is such an amazing edit. I've always imagined if this version of Joker has his more classic look (Green hair, lip stick, etc) and this made it so much better. Hopefully there will me more edits like this in the future for TNBA Joker's design being changed. Again, great editing dude 👏

This is a shockingly good restoration of a beloved design of a character. I had been putting that show off for a while, but I wouldn't be opposed to watching it sooner if Joker looked liked this.
I personally never had an issue with Joker's TNBA design growing up, but I do agree with most that his other designs are better. Nevertheless these recolors are really quite impressive. You should do one of these with scenes from "World's Finest", like Joker's interactions with Superman or Luthor.
What impresses me is how you made it so convincing. Cel-Animation is a BITCH to edit and picking the right colors is a nightmare since the cels were done using oil paint. But you managed to edit it so spectacular and picked the best colors that just feel right with the atmosphere, I almost thought it was an early version of the scene. Spectacular job!
I like this design! It would've been consistent since Joker's design in BAS and Return of the Joker are practically the same with some minor changes. The NBA design (to me) always reminded me of the Animaniacs and doesn't really fit between the two.
Am I the only one who actually liked his design from back then, for some reason it was always my favorite growing up. Nevertheless it was great to see this video with a different appearance for this joker.
I personally never really had an issue with the redesign because I never really focused on it. Mark Hamill's performance is what really made joker work for me in the show so I was never distracted by his look.
Blending these two would be peak imo, I do like the pearly whites, less intense green hair, and darker purple with matching bowtie of the old one. But anything with proper eyes and the lipstick is superior to it.

I don’t hate the TNBA design as many do (I think the black eyes on white skin are a good antithesis to Batman’s white eyes with a black cowl), I do miss a lot of the color in his features! Perhaps there’s a decent in-between somewhere? Idk great work nonetheless!

I like the way Return of the Joker calls back to both designs (and also the Killing Joke comic): when in deep shadow, his eyes become black with bright pupils. A sinister glint that almost looks as if his eyes are glowing with malice.

The Joker always seemed to be such a cutie to me in the frames where the smile slides down and he looks up to see the bell. Who knew taking away the black orbs wouldn't change it

I like the new face design and how you changed the flower 🌸 to the pink one with him actually having lips as well but I don’t think the rest of him needed changing I actually prefer the green shirt and purple bow tie but that’s just my personal opinion. Well done it’s a great recreation of the animation and in many ways it improved it keep calm and carry on being amazing. Xx

It's amazing what a re-colouring can do. Obviously I do think the design itself still feels very different even from the Beyond movie and Justice League Joker, but at least with this change it fits better.
The fan edit looks so much better than The New Batman Adventures design, they could have given him eyeballs and lips, it is all they had to do. Fits in well with Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski's animated series style.

The Joker always seemed to be such a cutie to me in the frames where the smile slides down and he looks up to see the bell. Who knew taking away the black orbs wouldn't change it

This is so much better. The Joker *of all characters* should have as much expression as possible. They even had to change it back in the future projects.
I love both designs personally, you did a fantastic job on this👏👏👏👏 I love Batman's reaction to the bell falling on Joker 😆 even he was like "God dang!" which made even more funny to me.

I like the new face design and how you changed the flower 🌸 to the pink one with him actually having lips as well but I don’t think the rest of him needed changing I actually prefer the green shirt and purple bow tie but that’s just my personal opinion. Well done it’s a great recreation of the animation and in many ways it improved it keep calm and carry on being amazing. Xx

I will never get tired of that iridescent black/red clown lip look no matter how many times they use it, it's such a nice artistic style. Look mom!!, I used that expression correct!
It's amazing what a re-colouring can do.
Obviously I do think the design itself still feels very different even from the Beyond movie and Justice League Joker, but at least with this change it fits better.
The fan edit looks so much better than The New Batman Adventures design, they could have given him eyeballs and lips, it is all they had to do. Fits in well with Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski's animated series style.
