Dang! I wish I had seen this video before I went and got a whole new assembly (driver side) when I was told the shorted connector could not be replaced. I had no idea I could have gotten the connector at an auto parts store. My advice to Mini owners: watch these vids before you fall for bad advice from a mechanic.
You can use Monolith. It solder seal wire connectors automotive grade. It’s found on Amazon. You need a heat gun that gets hot enough to shrink and seal the tubing and melt the solder. You know you did it right because the metal ring will turn to liquid and be shiny. It has to cool to lock everything together so don’t tug on it. When cool give a easy tug to make sure everything is sealed. Very Important- protect everything else near the connectors when using the heat gun otherwise you’ll melt stuff. A piece of aluminum or other metal as a shield works well. Good luck
Thank you so much, both of mine went out and the mechanic wanted to charge me $2300. My dad was a mechanic so I knew better but he lives in another state. Im going to order the kit you recommended and give it a shot.
I just did this but now my car won’t start. I disconnected the battery while I was installing the new bracket and I stared the car a few times during the process to make sure I did the wiring right. After I finished and reconnected the battery for the final time the car didn’t start. Do you have any idea what could be happening?
@@MAS73 This is really strange. Sounds like you reconnected the battery several times during the process to make sure the wiring was correct but after the last battery connection, the car didn’t start. Is that correct? Did you only disconnect the negative or positive or both?
@@winstonpinedagerman2556 If you are replacing the connector for the headlight, which is a H13 or 9008 headlight lamp, then the connector needs to fit a H13 or 9008 lamp. thank you man!! you saved my a$$
Thanks for the video
You used the heat gun on the heating tubes to fit tighter?
How do you solder the wires? I wish the auto stores here in Texas sold the connectors, I had to drive an hour to the mini dealership.
