Just a couple of points, at 14:57 you stated that Skoda decided the change the gearbox of McRae’s car resulting in him going OTL. This was a clutch issue. The clutch was due for replacement during the longer final service at the end of the previous day as per data readings from the car, however the Junior Engineer that was in charge of Colin’s car at that time opted not to do so and then had to do it the following day during a shorter 20 minute service where they simply didn’t have enough time. They also dropped the clutch pack (which goes together in a very specific order), tried to piece it together and ended up having to get another replacement clutch to go in the car. Skoda’s management kept the Senior Engineer managing Schwarz’s car rather than moving them to McRae’s car (even though Colin was doing significantly better than Armin during that event) and as a result, paid for it due to the lack of experience from the Junior Engineer. Nicky Grist explains this in an interview in the Forzo Watches TH-cam channel in a video titled “Uncovering Colin McRae’s Škoda Disaster”.
@@nosalis Heard rumors while visiting the factory at that time, that the whole season was sabotaged, to allow I think Audi to return to WRC. Don't think it happened and then Polo showed up. They didn't want two concern cars to compete each other, so they did this to downgrade the car. But, again that's rumors. At the end, it gave Skoda chance to develop better car for lower tier with less pressure....
@@vrvrvr81the popular conspiracy theory I heard a variation of was:- If McRae finished third or above, then Skoda would have gained enough points to trigger some sort of contract extension to stay in the WRC which they didn’t want. Also Schwarz had an agreement in place with Red Bull and other sponsors to run the Skoda team privately once the works team had pulled out. That’s why his mechanics didn’t work On mcrae’s car.
I love how you and TyDye both worked on Fabia videos at the same time. Hopefully the similarity just helps grow both channels (which seems somewhat likely as your Octavia video popped up in my recommended while watching TyDye and he mentioned the coincidental release of the video at the end of his). One of my favourite Rally Cars of all time. And the vRS version of the Fabia and those iconic adverts with the cake and the venom just etched this into being one of my favourite cars of all time rally or otherwise.

Bro your videos have some weird feeling… a fuccen good story telling a great energy and your essay on Škodas is legendary. Clearly you did the work and research. I showed your videos to my dad and he was on the edge of his seat as he he lived that time and was a big fan of Škoda cars. Keep up the good job you deserve fame!!!
I absolutely adore Škoda and their rally history. A dream car would be the commercially available rally version of the Fabia, but I’m just a uni student xD Awesome video!!
After watching your video on the Octavia WRC, I've been waiting for you to talk about the Fabia next! This, along with the 206 WRC and the SEAT Cordoba WRC, is one of my favorite WRC-class cars. I even recreated the Fabia WRC livery on the Fabia Rally2 in EA WRC 😄Great vid!
I always liked the Fabia in rally games. Underpowered but nimble. The cuddly one I rooted for. But I’ve seen so many youtubes on racing or rallying cars where reliabilty was THE issue, that I wonder how you can get a car up there at all. Reliabilty doesn’t seem to be a major issue anymore in F1, and I wonder how they did that. I grew up when championships were decided by the engine. The 787b that won Lemans was the downtuned one of two cars f.i. The full blown one failed.
There's a great interview with Nicky Grist on his TH-cam channel where he describes what happened at that service in Australia. They had a rookie mechanic team (as they were on the part time car) , but when his team mates retired the other mechanics went home. So when it was time to do the gearbox swap, inexperienced and novice mechanics were thrown into the deep end and sadly the rest is history
This year I had the first opportunity to be a part of the rally racing, when I together with my coworkers have made some parts for the Fabia RS Rally for the Rally Monte Carlo. Too bad that our team got robbed after being denied the request to be allowed to protect their own equipment against theft.
