I know im late here and I dont think that group B cars are faster than modern Rally1 car, but there is one aspect than no one consider. PACENOTES. Full pacenotes like we know today were introduced at Lombard RAC rally 1989. Before there was only hints where to turn given by the rally organizers

Also, as one dude trying to capture the north american events as much as possible, rally footage is expensive to capture due to: Distance between shooting points and recce fuel/time. Proper recce eats an additional day up, as well as running the entire stage/transit miles in our own vehicle. LSPR was nearly 500 miles of recce iirc, and we spent the entire day doing that. The sheer quantity of entrants, depending on how many cars pass, and if they've instituted safety dust minutes for that event. For example: LSPR had 71 entrants, and added dust minutes. That translates to 2.5 or so hours stuck in one spot on stage Most days I can manage to catch 3 stages per day, but the dust minutes, combined with cancelling some stages as it got dark, and running some stages in strange orders (slower privateer regional competitors running ahead of national competitors) meant we managed to catch just 2 stages in there entirety, and what we got on day 2 was the same stage from a slightly different angle since we were stuck for both runs, for over 5 hours total since they never made the stage cold to allow normal traffic in and out. That was a long and expensive trip, and I was a little upset at the quantity of footage I had at the end of it vs the cost of travelling to it.

Yeah, as I cover more and more ARA events in the US, I've grown increasingly tired of hearing about group B from people who are absolutely *NOT* fans of the sport, that don't go out of their way to support modern rally in the least. Modern WRC is sick, I just dont know if my current budgetary constraints will allow me to go see it in the next few years, unfortunately. Not holding my breath for Rally USA, but it'd sure be neat to see an actual WRC round in the US again in my lifetime. Cheers from Ohio!

Keep in mind man, these group B cars were producing 600hp on 1980s technology. For its time they were absolutely bonkers. You can't compare them to newer era's, even if its 10 or so years in the future let alone 40.

Having grown up in the 70s when group b came along with the mental 4x4 systems and turbo charged cars it was a revelation but every era of rallying deserves respect go look at the number of mk1 and mk2 escorts still doing rallies cars from the 70s and can beat more modern cars

The Accent was never forgotten in some countries. In fact, they were and still is huge. Just not in North America as far as I know. I remember seeing these cars in Korea back in the day pushing over 400whp out of those 1.6L Alpha engines as well as in other countries. Engine swaps were also popular on these using Beta engines as well. Pumping out such power on boost using ONLY factory components believe it or not.

I don't agree that Hyundai wah as bas as this guy is saying. It was a cheap, reliable and decent. This guy saved no bad words to describe Hyundai 20years ago and the truth is, they weren't that bad!

Seeing how this happens, it makes me wonder why more brands don’t invest in motorsports. Hyundai was a “pov car” brand before it, and after the motorsport redemption it achieved Hyundai has become a respected brand by both car enthusiasts AND regular buyers who aren’t invested in cars.

Hyundai's improvement in the WRC second time around parallels with Cadillac's improvement in world motorsports after failing miserably at their first attempt at endurance racing. It's not just Hyundai's rallying efforts that improved in the 2010s, it was their touring car racing efforts too. Remember the brave little Australian Hyundai Super Touring Car in the 1990s? Not many people do.
