Finally somebody playing isolated warrior. Me and my dad used to play it when i was like 7 , im 32 now. My favorite nes game. Did you ever try ghostbusters for sega, another cool game.
I respect Mike for his diligence when playing retro games. I just wonder though, when he says he likes challenging games is he only up for the challenge when he can beat it? I understand that the bike level in Isolated Warrior is hard, and maybe it is unfair/badly designed, it's just funny to hear someone like Mike say "This was a great game until this level" so it was a great game until it was too hard? Just a thought not hating.
i get what your saying. but i think Mike plays games in at least two different ways... one is just to showcase it (as in this episode) the other is to completly dominate the game. Mike beat Snake rattle N roll, Ninja gaiden, TMNT, and so forth. i remember beating this game when i was young myself, and it is awesome. i have zero doubt that he can do it if he wishes. (not trying to be a jock swinger) but yeah. Isolated Warrior isn't a bad game, if you die, you know it's possible, just gotta' hit it hard. ... as Mike always says: "A hard game, doesn't make it a BAD game" . ;)
I think he said it like banter as he was streaming. I don't think he actually thinks the game is bad and I wouldn't be surprised if he tries it on stream again later.
That first stage in isolated warrior made me think of a post apocalyptic paper boy stage Hahahaha

Swamp Thing was made in New Jersey, sort of. The studio was based in Glen Rock and also made most of the NES Simpsons games, although the development was led by a guy in California who was born and raised in Morristown. The publisher was New York based.

I really wanted to play Isolated Warrior after Cannot Be Tamed reviewed it, it's definitely something I'd have played as a kid.

I think you have a great example under your belt alright, Mike. You played through TMNT 1 on the NES and discovered the game is actually a lot deeper than everyone thought it was. You wouldn't have known that unless you beaten the game definitively the way you like to do.

11:35 I had no idea the NES could do graphical effects like that and I've been playing it since '89. I feel like I had to have seen it in a game by now and am just forgetting. Was that wavy effect ever used in any common NES game I may have seen at some point?
That particular sinusoidal raster effect is mostly used in various ways on several "hidden gem" and Famicom games, mainly ones that use the MMC3 and MMC5 mapper chips: such as Kid Dracula, Super Spy Hunter, Fantasy Zone, Crisis Force, TetraStar the Fighter, Recca: Summer Carnival '92, Kid Niki 2, The Glory of Heracles II, Jurassic Park, Final Mission, Klash Ball, Little Ninja Brothers, The Adventures of Bayou Billy, Toxic Crusaders, Addams Family: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt, Sesame Street 123, Chaos World, Monster in My Pocket, Kid Klown, etc.
Not exactly common on the more well-known American releases, but Vice: Project Doom uses it in several places, TMNT III: The Manhattan Project has it in the title screen, Ninja Gaiden II does it when you shut the Demon Gate at the end of the game, and Ninja Gaiden III does it when you are teleported out of the interdimensional warship after finally defeating Clancy.

Swamp Thing... yeah, hard as crap, I wonder if you'll end up trying to beat it, as for myself I think I'll eventually do it.
30 years ago, before I got my Famicom as a kid, I remember seeing this Isolated Warrior game at a store and was beyond amazed by the graphics. At the end, I never got it and never even knew the name. I think I caught glimpses of it over the years but It's until I watched this video that I found out the actual name. I'm glad I didn't get it back then, it'd had been a huge disappointment.
I got an idea ! would you try to beat teenage ninja turtle , with only one rule ? If you get hit one time , you lost the turtle . You can use the 4 turtles and all the scroll everything else . If you get hit 1 times with each turtle its game over

speed, an average player needs to take it slow and easy to avoid hidden traps and numerous enemies.....but I still find them enjoyable...much more than Super Mario games...but I see your point
Swamp Thing was created by the same company that made those Bart Simpson NES games, so that explains why it's so terrible.
