- Late autumn hike hike in the Val d'Hérens from Ferpècle to Bricola with snow-covered mountain peaks, golden larch forests and turquoise glacial rivers. We parked our car below the Ferpècle dam and hiked up to the reservoir. After a brief walk over the dam we continued our hike into the Ferpècle valley. This early in the morning the valley was still in the shadow of the surrounding mountain ranges and the ground was frozen solid and the larch trees were covered with snow. We made our way up and over the bridge of the Borgne de Ferpècle river. At the bridge we put our ice cleats on our shoes and started the steep ascent to Bricola. The trail was frozen but with the help of our ice cleats we had a firm grip climbing up the mountain. After a long and strenuous hike we reached Bricola with its abandoned mountain hut. We enjoyed the spectacluar view over the snow covered mountains and the valley with its golden larch forests. From Bricola we descended back into the valley where the sunlight has melted all the snow and ice from the last night. All the larches glowed golden in the warm sunlight. We contiuned our hike along the river further into the Ferpècle valley until we reached the Mont Miné glacier. There the path ended and we had to return and head back down until we reached the car park.
Tour itinerary
We start our hike at the car park below the Ferpècle dam (1825m). The road leads us to the Ferpècle reservoir (1891m) and further up to the bridge over the river Borgne de Ferpècle (1947m). After crossing the bridge we start the steep ascent to Bricola (2432m). From Bricola we take the same way back into the valley, cross the bridge and continue further up into the vally. The road stops in front of the Mont Miné glacier and we return back down to the car park (1825m) where our hike ends.

Thanks for sharing this video. We have been there each summer over the last few years and then all trees are green, much less snow of course and water levels in the stream/rivers and at the dam are much higher. One time even that high that water was streaming in the overflow at the dam.
