    I’m trying to buy a harness for steep slope roof inspections and came across this video. What harness are you wearing and what do you recommend?

    Using a hand ascender without a foot loop is kind of…dumb. Your way is the best way to make something simple look difficult.
    And like someone said below, what measures have you taken to ensure fall protection or restraint on the backside?

    • @RooftopSafetyUSA
      @RooftopSafetyUSA  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A hand ascender with foot loop is very effective in a vertical environment but much less effective on a sloped roof where your feet are in contact with the roof. And as far as the "backside" the lifeline is attached on both sides so it is effective on either side of the roof.

      @@RooftopSafetyUSA I suppose we’ll have to agree to disagree. I’ve worked in the rope access world for over ten years and am pretty sure I’ve never encountered a situation where my arms were stronger or more efficient than my legs when it came to lifting my body against the force of gravity. Our legs and butt have the muscles designed to move our bodies - I can stand on my legs all day but can only hang from my arms a minute or two at best. Efficiently using the tools you have at your disposal allied with proper technique is going to get you up even a relatively low angle roof like your’s much easier.

    • @RooftopSafetyUSA
      @RooftopSafetyUSA  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No need to get up there first. In our training programs we show you how to set up fall protection systems before you leave the ground. Here are a couple of videos that will give you an idea how we do that: th-cam.com/video/EIIZKuhOJ7c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=DQcWkrKQhtqeZrSD and th-cam.com/video/AM-Gs5fbi5A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=o5-m1wWUIvoO7-Nk You can purchase everything you need to do this at www.RooftopSafetyUSA.com or just select our complete kit which includes everything: rooftopsafetyusa.com/products/rope-access-complete-kit Let me know if you have other questions.

    I can already hear the outraged roofers who insist they don't need safety gear to roof something like this. Because hitting the ground really hard is far more preferable to working safely, and I'm sure your General Liability and Workman's Comp insurers will just look the other way when the claim is investigated. Oh, wait...roofers like those don't HAVE any insurance.
    Remember, customers, when you get a quote for roofing or anything else, get a copy of their Certificate of Coverage and VERIFY it with the issuing company/agent shown on it. If the contractor won't provide it, RUN AWAY!

    How far can you move over side to side without that leather ridge protector moving and being a danger to falling off the roof? And does the chest ascender work good for shingling lower pitched roofs? Or would you want to use the lower ring?

    • @RooftopSafetyUSA
      @RooftopSafetyUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on how far down the roof you are from the ridge you can move 30 to 45 degrees away from center. For working on lower pitched roofs I would put the rope in the descender and use that, much easier to move about and keep your rope tight with the descender.

    • @RooftopSafetyUSA
      @RooftopSafetyUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We use (and were using in this video) two ascenders. A chest ascender built into the harness and the hand ascender. The chest ascender captures the progress made with the hand ascender. It would be hard to make the same type of progress on the steep slope without two ascenders.
