Great tutorial. I really like the idea of using the RidgePro as an anchor point for my rope & harness versus tying off on ground anchors or a tree on the opposing side of the house due to the potential time saved during set up. I noticed the hook moving side to side and up and down during your initial ascent. I know that technically we should fasten the hook to the roof, but if we don't, do you feel there is a high risk of the hook bouncing or slipping off during our ascent with our rope? Have you ever experienced the hook coming out of position when attempting to ascend the roof?

Hello, I have not had the RidgePro dislodge or even make me think it was going to. The key is to make sure you are pulling down and not up. You need to be careful when you get near the ridge to make sure you aren't lifting up on it. If I am going to be spending time near the ridge I prefer a lifeline over the roof to a sturdy anchor on the ground. I can set and secure a lifeline in under 10 minutes so it isn't that much trouble to do.

Jim, Im a new CAT Adjuster. I've been considering the Ridge Pro or a GOAT to get up the steeper roofs. I would need to do roof inspections and measurements of a 10'x10' test square for each slope affected by claimed damage, ie hail. So I would have to move around on the roof. I like the fact that you can be tied off with the Ridge Pro vs just handles on the GOAT. What do you suggest? Thx. David

As you pointed out the Goat only provides protection when you have a hand or foot hold on it. With the RidgePro you can move about within a 30 degree angle either side of the centerline of the RidgePro. This requires a harness and lifeline, and I prefer a harness with a front D Ring at the waist. The Astro is a great harness and will work well in the future if you decide to set lifelines over the building and secure to ground based anchors.

Using a ridge pro and harness allows for rope and harness billing. The goat does not. 👍🏼

Is the ridge pro considered fall protection. Want to inspect bigger roofs. Don’t want to fall

The FAQ's on the manufacturer webpage discuss this topic. You can see them here: www.theridgepro.com/faq Without question though it will keep you from falling if used properly in conjunction with a harness & lifeline.

Can use ridgpro on Spanish tile roofs ?

Personally I don't like walking on tile roofs so I haven't tried it. My concern would be that the hook end would crack the tile.

The only problem I can see with the ridgepro is the price. You can get an 18’ ladder and a ridgehook for less money and do much more with the 18’ ladder.
