It's great that you got to see it again and know that it had been looked after at least. I know my very first mini has been scrapped. I still wonder where H980 MOE is though. He was a bit of a basket case but we did do a few miles together.
I was in a very similar position recently however the xar was 2k rather than 15k. You made the right decision, worrying about money would ruin your enjoyment of the car
Sometimes things are not meant to be Keith. You’ve got the joy of knowing it’s alive, kicking & well cared for. As you say if it’s meant to be in the future, it will be.
I think you’re right, it’s for the best. You know she’s still on the road, you know she’s happy. You don’t need to own her. It’s great that you could see her. Better she being used rather than costing you and not being used (as much). It’s great that the decision was taken away from you. ❤
Hi Keith, Yes! It was the Right decision! Don't beat yourself up about that, your reasoning for not buying the car were well thought through. It's such a shame but, as I always say too 'these things Do happen for a reason' 😅 ...I'm sure you will be re-united with that particular Mini in the future 🤞
In the end, being a bit selfish, the best decision for the channel. My first mini is, was, sold to a scrap yard in Germany because I bought a new 1300 to come home with when I was posted back to the UK. I still think about it & wish I had brought it back but I didn’t. The good news for you is that yours is still on the road & you may see it again even, at Brighton.
Shame indeed Keith, but thank you for being so open about your real world finances. A lot of TH-camrs would of just got it and worried later of the consequences. Hopefully you may get another chance to buy it when things are right.
Totally understand your decision Keith and I would have done the same. Only way would be to let the Sport 5 go and as you said it would be technically being replaced by something inferior and you had a pledge to yourself to keep the Sport 5. I'm on the look out for a 2001 Triumph Bonneville which my Dad bought brand new and sold in 2004. It appeared in 2017 just after I bought another motorcycle two months before so wasn't in the financial position to buy it. Very happy to say though that it's still taxed and MOT'd and with whoever the lucky person was who bought it as the V5 hasn't been reissued. One day I hope it will appear and I will buy it and keep it ❤
At least you had a chat with Phil who had it up for sale, you got to go and see it and like you say it wasn’t the right time. Money aside, you’d have less work to make exciting and upcoming content for us viewers. Plus one can only house a certain number of cars at a time.
You have my curiosity on fire now , what is the green model mini you have ? How much would you have asked for it ? Another question comes to mind = is there a mini you have always wanted to restore ? Knowing absolutely nothing about minis in fact any car really, watching you and the other gentleman has been a pleasure and my top watch now just can’t get enough of your videos = crazy stuff , both of your enthusiasm for the mini car must be infectious and caught the virus, take care .
The green one is a Rover Mini Racing Green with a John Cooper Conversion fitted at John Cooper garages which makes it quite rare. The JCG conversions were the precursor to the relaunch of the Mini Cooper in the early 90's. Thinking about it, I think I've restored and owned most of the Mini's I would want to, but I still get a kick out of saving something from the scrap heap, no matter how mundane a car it might be
@@classicminiworkshop Thanks for reply , I was hoping you was going to say the mini with the sliding windows is a mini I’d like to restore, why I’m so attracted to those have absolutely no idea = very strange and bizarre considering only by watching you two gentlemen that has had me looking into the history of the mini , if you see a mini in the future that you would like to restore or would make good videos let me know , you kept the price of the green mini in a secret place . Take care and thanks to both of you for the absolute pleasure in watching your videos.
I've spent £14k on the RG including buying it. I would have tried it at £16k. The problem is, like many rare cars, it's just as rare as the people who want to buy it! I've never restored a Mk1 with sliding windows, and neither has Mark. The Madjwick was a Swiftune build, so maybe it is something for the future. The problem is, Mk1s are big money, even the rot boxes.
@@classicminiworkshop Very true in regards to the price of anything will depend on what people are prepared to spend , even the rot boxes as you call them are big money , doesn’t make sense to me but being new to this mini world obviously have a lot to learn, I really do appreciate your time and sorry for taking your time up , take care .
Hi Keith Good video again. Could you please help, I had an another big battery 096 and tried to fit into the Mini but forgot the Battery terminal last were other way around, it Melted the wires on the Alternator. This Morning I have cleaned and taped the 2 brown wires on the Alternator. Mini start with a charged battery but I Alternator is not charging as when I check the battery voltage with multimeter it doesn’t go up at all
Hi there. I would please like some advice. Me and the missus were driving the other day, coming down a steep hill. I had just before adjusted the front right shoes a bit. Right at the bottom of the hill the brake pedal hit the floor. Managed to not crash into anyone and made it through the red light. Pulled over, the brake fluid was pissin out the front right and I think it's the slave cylinder. Would you agree? Looking at doing a big refresh. Doubt it's master?
Finances aside, you would have had it. Could you not have had a loan, sorry i mean the Mrs get a loan, got the engine the Cooper and sold it, then cleared the loan, interest would have been "minimal" lol There are always people to help 😉
Well done Keith. A hard decision but definitely the right one 👍

I know exactly how you felt, but it was still a great story. Onwards and upwards, I look forward to seeing the cooper S finale.
It's a shame, but a great story! Never say never though mate, it may pop up again in the future. 😎

On balance that was the best decision. If you hadn't got the sport 5 it would be a different story - but there you go.

I love 90s Rover minis! Mines a 1998 Rover spi from Japan!
Interesting cars those late Japanese Minis, a bit of a hybrid between an MPI and an SPI
That too is also my dream Mini Cooper. Hard to find in the USA.

I agree only spend if you have the cash that's why my ERA took me over 6 years to finish save first then buy parts as you progress.

Like you said...its fate , things happen for a reason
I’d say yes you did.
Head has to rule the heart sometimes, it'll be up for sale again soon enough

Does the battery light come on the dash? I suspect you may have blown the diode pack in the alternator
Hiya Keith, I love telling people that there are 33 videos of Bruce’s restoration to watch. Sorry you didn’t get the mini. Keep well 😊
Bruce is still one of my favorite restorations. I might do another budget resto next
Wow! Crazy long intro!!
You can skip forward, there are chapters in the description for that purpose

Yes, slave cylinder or maybe the hose if it failed suddenly
@@classicminiworkshop Thank you sir. Planning on replacing those anyhow
I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. Hopefully, at some point in the future............

That did cross my mind. Keith of 20 years ago would have just put it on a credit card and worried about it later LOL
