Nice video as always. Interesting sequence of data entry for the return route. But what surprised me, already on the ground, was the smoke coming out from behind, to your left. I imagine it must be something related to the air conditioning or something similar. Nice visual short approach
Thanks for sharing your detailed and good feedback! The smoke is no real smoke. It is just condensation near the air conditioning outlets. Sometimes this also happens in the cabin.
Keith, thank you so much for your continued financial support of the channel as a member! This helps a lot to keep the channel running! Thanks also for your good feedback! Being a few minutes in the sun for the outside check is always nice. Have a great weekend, Stefan
Excellent video Stefan, like all the ones you upload each week. Would it be possible to reduce the volume of the ATC conversations a little so that you two, captain and copilot, can be heard better or is it impossible to change or regulate? Sometimes your instructions are overshadowed by conversations between ATCs and other aircraft. Thanks, good job and keep it up. Congratulations.
Thank you so much for your great feedback! Unfortunately, right now I cannot change the volume relationship between the different cockpit audio sources in the post production process. Due to several reasons, there is only one audio track which includes the original cockpit audio which we hear in the cockpit. Sometimes the result is better, sometimes worse. I will try to improve it in future videos and hope to find better solutions. Have a nice day!
@@Djnffnoeosmfasjjd Thanks for watching and your good feedback! We do not fry anyone. The terrain picture is generated out of a database. It has nothing to with the radar. It just uses the same navigation display. Per SOP, we never have the radar on when we are in close proximity to people.
It is condensation near the air condition outlets. It has nothing to do with the oxygen bottle. You can see this also once in a while in the airplane cabin.
Wie immer ein tolles Video! ...
Great video! (As always is!) Listening to all your after landing discussions, I'm asking myself how much implicit pressure there is on being "On Block" in time, usage of fuel, etc. Are there rankings in the fleet. (Not only for statistics but for personal records and career promotions?) Or is it your ambition to always be perfect?
Thanks for financially supporting the channel as a member and your good feedback! I In general, my thinking is that an employer can expect from the employees that they always try to do the job perfectly in exchange for the money the employer pays. In aviation this includes as highest priority that the crew operates the airplane always in the safest possible manner. The passengers pay money for the ticket and they can expect that we do whatever is possible to get them on time to the destination. We usually also have passengers on board who connect to other flights. Usually there is a little room, but a longer delay may cause them to miss the connection flight. Or they miss their appointment or train connection at the destination. Also, the airplane usually is scheduled for another flight after we arrive back at the homebase. There is some room, but this flight may be delayed if we are too late. There are no rankings about who is doing better or worse in regard to the operation in the company. The company trusts us that we always do wise decisions. For example: If we think that we need an extraordinary amount of extra fuel for a certain flight, we do not have to justify the decision. Even if it may cost a good amount of extra money. Back to this flight: One flight attendant wanted to visit the terminal for a few minutes. Originally, that would have been possible because we arrived early and the turn around time would have given him the possibility. But things changed a little due to the parking position with some distance to the terminal and the late slot which we became aware of. An early boarding of the airplane gave us the chance to try to get rid of the slot or to get an improvement. He would have only had about 12 minutes for the visit at the terminal before the passengers were scheduled to arrive at the airplane. This was finally too short.
Wonder where that aircraft landed with a dirty runway. You could really see the spray from the main gear on the wings during the walkaround. Great video, thanks!!
When we land and taxi during rain, the plane can get dirty from the spray which originates from the main gear. It is like with a car in rainy weather. We wash the planes on a regular basis to keep them as clean as possible!
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Yeah I figured as much. Sometimes I can't find anything specific to comment on so I find something random to make a longer comment on to help drive engagement. The dirty spray was what I found today. Thanks for the reply and Happy Flying!
Tolles Video.
You are correct, I did not do many A321 flights. But it is still a mixture of A319, A320 and A321 flights. In between, all NEOS have arrived and are in use.
Hello Captain! Incredible video as always, for a ATPL student a lot to learn from you. I have one question : The minima was 1100 and knowing that it was a non-precision approach ( the VOR24 app; ignoring the fact that it was a visual approach afterwards ) why you didn't add an operational margin? Clear skies ! 👑✈
First of all: Thank you very much for your financial support of the channel as a member! Originally, we had to expect the VOR approach to runway 24. This has a MDA (minimum descent altitude) of 1100 feet. So when flying on final approach and arriving at 1100 feet, we have to see something, like the runway, approach lights … to continue the descent to the runway. The pilot flying confirms this with a “continue” or “go around” call. To fly a visual approach, we have to see the runway environment before we ask for the clearance to do so. This means that the requirement to see the runway at the minimum is already met when asking for the clearance. The result is that a visual approach has no MDA or Decision Altitude. But to stay with our normal instrument flight habits, most of the time we keep the MDA or DA in the MCDU, even with the visual approach and the pilot flying calls continue when reaching it. But legally this is not needed at all. Keeping the minimum inserted would also help in case we would have to revert back to the instrument approach in the case if we would lose the sight to the runway during the visual approach.
Mal wieder ein schönes Video. Vielen Dank!
@ApproachandDepartureVideos thank you for your reply. Great videos from you and your fellow colleagues and on the plus side I've learnt something today from your explanation 👍 thank you Stefan
The difference between an A319/A320 and A321 is the engine noise in the cockpit. Due to the extended distance from the engines, we hear less engine noise in the A321 cockpit. The feeling is very similar as it always depends on the load and the used engine power. Especially light airplanes show a very good takeoff and climb performance. This is true for A319 to A321.
How do u decide on the A320 which engine to start up first, considering the yellow hydraulic system depends on the right engine? Does that have an influence?
Standard Operating Procedures say that engine 2 is started first because it powers the yellow hydraulic system. The yellow hydraulic system powers the parking brake accumulator. If you do not need the parking brake during the engine start sequence (for example, when the start is done during the pushback), you theoretically could start engine 1 first with no impact on operations.

Good question! The audio in the video is the original audio from the cockpit. We hear all this background chatter and have to make sure that we receive the messages which are for us and that we understand what the airplanes nearby are doing. This is in parallel with our other tasks. The main focus of the pilot flying is to fly the airplane and the main focus of the pilot monitoring is to monitor the work of the pilot flying, to assist the pilot flying and to do the radio communication.

Sonst immer tolle Videos!
Falling door issues is something which we luckily do not have with Airbus airplanes! It was a very small crack in some kind of plastic cover. Nothing really bad, only cosmetics. It was already documented in our technical logbook by maintenance or one of the previous crews. So we had to do nothing about it.

This may be the impression, but you are completely wrong. It looks much easier than it is. Flying an Airbus requires a comprehensive training and lots of experience. In this video you see a visual approach, this even requires a good amount of brain work. If it would be so easy, you would not see 2 pilots anymore and the plane would do everything by itself.

I get really excited for your uploads captain….the way you speak and communicate is amazing and I really am learning how to work and communicate in a manner as you do so I can become an amazing airline pilot like you and the first officer…this is spectacular place to land in quite nice.. just passed the first step by getting into a cadet pilot program 😅😅. I am looking forward to meet you one day as I am in India 😂😂. LOVE YOU CAPTAIN AND PLEASE FORWARD THIS THANKS TO THE F/O in this video both of you are amazing 💙💙
Thank you so much for your very kind words! I - for sure - love to hear your wonderful feedback! Congratulations for getting into a cadet pilot program! I whish you all the best for your pilot career and hope to see you soon in the cockpit!
amazing and educational video to watch from someone that works with and loves aviation, I always figured pilots didnt bother looking to the marshallers for turning into the stand :-)
Thank you so much for watching and for sharing your good and detailed feedback! We usually do what the marshaller is showing us to do. But the final responsibility about the movement of the airplane and to stay clear of any obstacles and other airplanes is always with the Captain.
Hello from Greece! Thank you for those amazing videos and explanations during almost all procedures, for those flying on simulators not having the opportunity to make it to a real cockpit is really amazing how much you can learn from you!
Found your channel only recently but im hooked to it! Thank you again for your amazing job! Keep it up!
Thanks a lot for your great feedback! Welcome to the channel! It's good to hear that you like my videos! Please tell everybody about the channel! Thank you very much in advance for your help! Best wishes to Greece!

Hi Captain
Another Supper Video love the turn around process
the weather was great, Stefan you should have stayed Ha Ha

Steve
Hi Steve, thanks for your good and helpful feedback! Yes, we should have stayed. I hope to come back another time as a tourist. Gretings, Stefan
That landing was smooth as silk! And what incredible views, no wonder you would have been happy for there to be no fuel available! 😂 Another wonderful video.
🇩🇪🛫🌍🛬🇬🇷🧑🏻✈️🧑🏻✈️
Edit to add - I see you’ve answered already, explaining the vapour by your left arm when parked on stand, it’s very dramatic and certainly caught my attention 😂
Thanks for sharing your good feedback! Yes, no fuel available would have given us a short "vacation" on the island.
Thanks for your answer🙂
Thanks for those amazing videos!
Thank you so much for sharing your good feedback!
another brilliant video, look forward to the next one,Thanks.

Enjoyed this one Capt! Hello from SIN/WSSS.
This is good to hear! Many greetings to Singapore!
Always a good day when this video comes out 🥰 thank you.
Terrain radar stayed on whilst on stand? Ground crew fried? 😂
@@Djnffnoeosmfasjjd Thanks for watching and your good feedback! We do not fry anyone. The terrain picture is generated out of a database. It has nothing to with the radar. It just uses the same navigation display. Per SOP, we never have the radar on when we are in close proximity to people.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Never knew that, thanks for letting me know.
Thanks for the video. Was the smoke at the left window during the ground ops (40:30) caused by the oxygen bottle? :D
I was wondering about this vapor as well. Humid air from the air conditioning perhaps?
It is condensation near the air condition outlets. It has nothing to do with the oxygen bottle. You can see this also once in a while in the airplane cabin.
Wie immer ein tolles Video! ...
Very nicely done 👍✈️
Thanks for watching and the good feedback!
Great video! (As always is!)
Listening to all your after landing discussions, I'm asking myself how much implicit pressure there is on being "On Block" in time, usage of fuel, etc.
Are there rankings in the fleet. (Not only for statistics but for personal records and career promotions?) Or is it your ambition to always be perfect?
Thanks for financially supporting the channel as a member and your good feedback! I
In general, my thinking is that an employer can expect from the employees that they always try to do the job perfectly in exchange for the money the employer pays.
It seems some time since you have had command of an A321 for us Stefan. Do Eurowings have their ordered A321neos as yet?
You are correct, I did not do many A321 flights. But it is still a mixture of A319, A320 and A321 flights. In between, all NEOS have arrived and are in use.
do you have any videos showing you in a holding pattern before landing? it would be interesting to see how it is handled by ATC
Here the video of one of our approaches to Funchal with a holding pattern: th-cam.com/video/nqbUIaGm3KQ/w-d-xo.html
@ thank you! :)
Hello Stefan. 40 minutes into your video thought something was on fire in the Flight DECK. Not sure what it was but sure you will say haha
No fire or so. Nothing to worry about. This is due to condensation near the outlets of the air conditioning. Sometimes we also see this in the cabin.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos thank you for your reply. Great videos from you and your fellow colleagues and on the plus side I've learnt something today from your explanation 👍 thank you Stefan
How much of the engine do you feel in the cockpit on an A321 as apposed to smaller aircraft like the A320/19?

Do the pilots continiously hear all this backround chatter that loudly and if so how do they focus like that
Good question!
@ApproachandDepartureVideos got it thanks a lot. Good flights and greetings from Athens.

Sonst immer tolle Videos!
"Just a small crack mentioned from the cabin" - like maybe one of the doors fell off? :)
Falling door issues is something which we luckily do not have with Airbus airplanes! It was a very small crack in some kind of plastic cover. Nothing really bad, only cosmetics. It was already documented in our technical logbook by maintenance or one of the previous crews. So we had to do nothing about it.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos yeah i was joking, i know that only boeings have "small cracks" like that :)
I saw my house :D
Thanks for watching! Greetings to Rhodes!

so basically the pilots are doing nothing but pushing buttons.remind me of IT dudes.........
