When my dad was dying in the hospital, his neighbor brought us a kindness bag. It had magazines, chap stick, lotion, word search puzzle books, pen and paper, snacks and candy, etc. It was things for the family who was just sitting there all day. I thought that was the most thoughtful gift ever!
This is so cool. I teach high school and we have a fashion club and our school always does a Kindness Month. Will pass this idea onto to them. I’ve also always wanted to do something like this for the homeless and foster teens. I can do this. Thanks for sharing
Hello from Australia, We do similar it focus women that live on the streets and it’s called share the dignity. I have just made 30 bags to put ladies items in. Shampoo & conditioner Sanitary items Deodorant Hand wash & sanitiser etc. very good idea.
As a volunteer at a homeless drop in center, your gift is amazing! One thing to remember is that food absorbs odors and the food items could possibly end up tasting like soap. It’s best to package food items separately. Thanks for sharing, as donations like this mean the world to folks without homes.❤❤❤
Snack foods, especially protein. Bags like this would be great for children who are ripped from their homes and sent to a foster home. Most children do not get to take anything of their own with them. This bag would be their bag with their personal things in it. My son and his wife were foster parents for years. One older girl and one boy came with her/his own belongings because she came from a girl's home and he came from his home when his parents were arrested. It took a village to help them clothe and get supplies for every child. In the state they were in, they did not get paid much or often. They did it because they could not have their own children and both loved children and wanted a family. I know there is a program that gives blankets to a child when he/she enters foster care in some states. This is a good idea to implement also. It is good for the child and helps the foster parents.
You are such a great example to me. Instead of going back to bed and throwing the covers over your head, you create something and do a kindness for someone in need. I’m going to try making one of these bags next time I’m tempted to sulk!
Ok I am going to try leaving this comment again for I don't know how many tries!😉 There is a program here that helps foster children and I have been told that they get a lot of things in for babies and younger children but not so much for the older ones. I have been given lots of different fabric to make bags for the older ones to use and I am a fairly new sewer so I could use an idea for a larger bag that I can do (I will be making quite a few ) and Have them still look nice. I am going to go through your videos but would love any suggestions from all! Chelsea you encourage all of us. You are a wonderful lady!!
@@laureenllacey6620 An idea for older kids are the easy backpack sling bags. They are very easy but bigger than a “kindness” bag. There are YT videos on how to make them.
Their quality is not inferior to those large luxury goods. The durability and attention to detail rivals the original designer bags and I can't believe how much I ?paired. It's the perfect accessory for any fashionable girl! I'm sure I'll repurchase some other styles and colors ? *gtdupe* to match my clothes and shoes
Try a bag that’s 13.5 inches square, stitch two small button holes an inch and a half down from the top of the bag. Fold over the top edge 1/4 inch, press it and fold again about one inch and stitch close to the edge. The button holes should be on the outside of the bag. Open the buttonholes and make a cloth string or use a rope to close the bag and make a carry strap.
You are so sweet. ⭐️ Gold Star! Your community is very blessed to have you. We are blessed that you share your talents with us in such a fun and kind way. ❤
@@shesewsseams I agree! Every time I see a new video, I get excited! I know it's going to be something I like! This is the most wonderful idea. My daughter keeps bags in her car to give out to people standing on the corners, but she uses a Walmart bag. LOL! I'm gonna see if she will let me make some of these for her to use... I need an outlet for all my sewing! 🙂
I know wealthy women who carry replicas. The main reason they gave is that they just understand the value of money and don't want to spend too much money on bags... so more people choose fashionable *gtdupe* bags. However, they do spend a lot of money on fine jewelry and other things.
My grandkids and I did that last year, but we used large thermos type mugs and packed them full of stuff. Every time we saw someone sitting at the corner needing help, we would give them a ‘blessing in a jug.’ The GK’s enjoyed it so much. I like the idea of the bag may do that this year.
Chelsea, I love this idea. I live in Arizona and even though everyone thinks it’s hot here all the time, it does get cold in the winter. My husband used to travel pre-Covid and would always bring home the hotel size shampoo, conditioner and soaps. I have oodles of them. I’m going to make up some kindness bags as we often see people on the corners who are in need. I definitely want to have some of these in my car for those occasions. I think I may add a $5-$10 gift card for a fast food restaurant in the area! Thank you for such a wonderful idea! I always love your ideas!!❤
This is such a great idea. If you did multiples, you could buy the large pks of goodies at WalMart, Sam’s, etc. Having a “sisters” weekend…we have a project!
For my first paycheck, I didn't make any impulse purchases. Instead, I picked up a great bag from *gtdupe* that has stayed with me for many years. This is a sign of growth and a triumph of reason.
These bags would be wonderful to make for nursing home residents, too. Christmas time is especially hard on the ones who don't have family close enough to visit & a Goodie Bag filled with treats, stationary, lotions, etc. would definitely brighten the holidays for them.
I agree about not carrying backpack when i am travelling and am in crowds etc. I will use it on the plane as carry on however. My most recent trip i brought my backpack, nylon tote and Senreve Aria from *gtdupe* . Nylon tote was used during the day for sightseeing and easily fit everything i needed. Evenings or when i didn't want to lug too much I used the Aria. It can be worn as belt bag, sling or clutch. I have chain strap to swap in if i need fancy look too.
I used to knit and crochet (stupid carpal tunnel stopped me) hats and make up bags with gloves, socks, crosswords, coloring books, crayons, pens, depending if for a child or an adult, and donate to the Carti cancer treatment facility in town. Kindness bags are a great idea. ❤❤
Chelsea you are so creative and I always learn something new when I watch you sew.. as simple ( but frustrating) evening out the zipper and getting rid of that little stinking bubble!! I was laughing with you with tweens hygiene.. sometimes the best lesson for them is for a peer to say something to them. Or if they all of a sudden start cleaning up without daily reminders, suspect that they have a tiny crush on someone!!! 😂😂
I worked at a hugh drug store, when we would do a reset or when manufacturers would change something on packaging, things would go on clearance. I would buy things and save them up. Then donate to Meals On Wheels. I love the pouch idea!🥰🥰🥰
This is so wonderful! What I do is when I travel I always grab the extra hygiene items from my room and ask my family to do so as well and share them with me. I keep them on hand and hand those out with a few of extra things like socks and tee shirts.
You’re so sweet and thoughtful! I love this idea so much and am totally going to do this! I saw someone else add the cute hats and gloves and hand warmers as well! Prayers that the rest of your week goes much more smoothly, but I do love your attitude! You’re an inspiration! And a water bottle.
Chelsea, I want to encourage you and remind you that you are beautiful and enough; even on the sucky days. I love your tutorials for all the practical items. I took my machine back out this year (after many years of it sitting stored) because of you! Everyone is getting personalized zipper pouches as gifts under the tree this year. It’s been fun to pick out unique material for all my peeps. Thank you for all of it 💕.
Thank you so much for spreading kindness! My daughter in law had our four grandchildren make some of these bags up (I think she used large Ziploc bags). And she keeps them in their car. They live in a large city, so they get to experience being kind very often!! I'm so sorry about your freezer! We lost all the food in our freezers when the hurricane hit, so I feel your pain!
Hi Chelsea, what a thoughtful idea. You are the sweetest person. To the children, keep telling yourself that this too shall pass. Everyone of my kids went through the not cleaning themselves, until I made them. Hugs
What a great idea, I usually go to a drive through and get them some food, if they have a dog I run to the nearest dollar tree and pick up some stuff for him too. Being out in this world they need something to help them stay safe
I love to watch your videos, but I think this one is my very favorite. I love it when people use their gifts and talents to bless others. Thank you for the wonderful idea and for your kind heart.
Thank you for telling us what your morning was like, and then showing that mind over matter is really a 'thing'. I like the idea of sharing with someone with less. Blessings to you
Such a cute knidness bag! When you first started with a black drying mat, I thought oh no, no, however it turned out perfect with the little pop of turquoise. Have a happy day - Heidi 😄
I absolutely love this! What a great idea for a youth group or SS class to work on! It is more blessed to give than to receive. May the Lord bless you 😍
You are truly a blessing. ❤ I work at a cancer center and make a version of your kindness bag. Also port pillows to protect their port (IV access) when wearing a seat belt. Thank you
Great idea. I made 20 Christmas stockings to fill and took my granddaughter Audrey,5 to help me pick out items but I like this idea so it’s closed and contained and you don’t have to worry about lining it. Kids are kids and yes my son now 33 went through a phase where when told to go brush his teeth would go in the bathroom to pacify me but didn’t brush them. Well years later it came back to bite him in the butt! They all learn at their own pace! All we can do is try our best
Teens are tough. I used to be a school nurse and often had to give kids the hygiene talk. " You're body is changing and you have to start showering and wearing deodorant ete". The teachers would send me the smelly ones. The principal once had me give the hygiene talk to one of the teachers. That was awkward for both of us. Love the idea of these kindness bags. I once gave a group of homeless women manicure kits and nail polish from dollar tree. They loved them
I'm sorry that you had an awful morning. But boy, you sure did make my day with this tutorial. So many people are in need....my mind is swirling! Thank you for being you Chelsea, you've given me confidence and so much laughter 😊
Omg. I remember days like that. My son would wear the same pair of underwear for days! Now he is 33 and has two boys of his own. Pay back times two. Love watching it all. Chelsea, Enjoy it all . They grow up too fast.
I am very happy with *gtdupe* 's bag, arrived on time and exceeded my expectations! Need a stylish little backpack to go to theme parks with my kids. I'm not a backpack person and usually carry a purse with me, but I wanted something that was easier to carry and less carried over the shoulder. I bought the smaller size, but it holds 2 water bottles, snacks, a couple of light sweaters, and a bunch of other small things. I like that the opening is in the back, great for travel.
I love you!!! I want to be your bestie!!! Your spirit is so wonderful! God bless you and please never let this world break your happiness or spirit!! I am a sewist and I love your videos!!!
Love this! I do these in paper sacks. I include a small water and beef sticks from Costco (65 cents each). Also kind bars from Costco, about the same price. I throw in a couple of compressed towels I buy in bulk from Amazon for lots of things. Add water and it’s a paper towel! Finally I add a note like, here’s a hug for you. Thank you for posting I got some new ideas! I do keep sharp things off the list…
Love this idea. We have an organization here called Circle the City that supports the homeless community. This would be a great thing to gift that organization to hand out. Thanks for the inspiration ❤
❤❤❤ I’ve been filling similar Kindness Bags using 2 gallon zip bags from Dollar Tree for years. I pack a lot of the same stuff you do and I also include a few pieces of Chocolate (like Hershey Kisses or Lindt Truffles) bc chocolate usually makes everyone happy 😊
What a great idea. There is a kit if people who could use a bag like this filled with all sorts of goodies. Schools and shelters would be in need of items like this. If your a church person you could pass it onto the Father of the church, he'd know lots of people who'd benefit from this. Great idea thanks for demonstrating & sharing a nifty idea
I've seen those mats at Dollar Tree and wasn't sure if they'd look good when sewn up, but you've convinced me to pick one up next time and try it out. The faux leather at dollar tree also makes a nice pouch. I used the (gunmetal) metallic zipper-by-the-yard and microsuede fabric for the interior and it looks really fancy for something that cost less than $3.
You are so sweet. This is the time for remembering others always. Love the little bag. Your instructions are so great. Have a blessed Thanksgiving and remember God loves us all. 🇱🇷🥰🍂
Being a mom is very challenging some days Chelsey…I remember when my mom had those days too. She was a foster kid in NY’s system…enough said. TY for being so kind 💗
You are such a sweet inspiration in so many ways! Just choosing to turn the day around after a hard start, and choosing to give away kindness bags. Brilliant idea and something we could all do. Thank you 🤩
What an awesome idea. I see a lot homeless when I travel. I would run in a grocery store and buy quick food for them. But this is can work when time is limited. Thank you so much. So sorry to hear about your food. That has happened to us before. No fun
What a fantastic idea. I’m from the UK and the state our country is in at the moment these would be great. I’m going to see about putting it out there in our sewing community and say that it was you that suggested this great idea. Let’s make the people have hope and faith in humans again and help them and tell them they are not alone. Thank you your an amazing person xx
Bless your heart! That is some day! Been there, done that with 3 boys, who are now dads themselves. At the end of the day, give them a hug and hope for a better day tomorrow 😊. I just love your laugh and videos!
Chelsea, so sorry that the morning wasn’t the best, but these days are what we call “being a mother” unfortunately no one understands more than a mom how difficult it all is!!!!! Days and months go by, our kids are grown and now we have grandchildren which is the best, but having 3 under 3 was very difficult - but love them and the memories that went with it. You are a great mom, and your tutorials help with our brain and your wonderful sense of love for them. Thank you❤
I love this!! What a great idea! You have such a tender heart! God bless you for your kindness and for teaching us such useful and fun skills along the way !!
What a lovely thing to do. Another good thing to put in would be a list of shelters and phone numbers to get help if needed. My kindergarteners at our church did a similar project but we used a long new sock to put everything in ( plus the other sock!) thank you for this video ❤️
It's good to ask if someone wants a male or female bag. We don't always know what people need by how they look on the outside or if they have what they need but someone they know needs a bag!
I made about 50 zipper pouches (flat) and donated them along with the same amount of beanies to two local charities that help the homeless. They were going to fill them with other donated, most needed items!
Great idea! Sewing for a purpose,-gives us a purpose. Thanks for this idea cuz I wouldn't always have the money to fill the bags. But I have tons of fabric sitting atound!😊
You are truly an AMAZING human being Chelsea, how BEAUTIFUL our world would be if it was filled with people like you!!🫶 what a FABULOUS GENEROUS idea and loved that you turned your day around too, you’ve certainly made mine today. Loved this video so much🙌🫶🙌🫶 Thankyou 🥰
Our church used to make Blessing Bags which were similar. We included combs or brushes and gift certificates for local fast food places so they could get a hot meal. These were mainly used for homeless people. Thanks for all you do and great example of kindness to others.
You’re such a good hearted person, Chelsea. Our church puts bags together that we can take to keeping the car to hand out to people on the corners. It’s a good feeling when you can do that.
Hi Chelsea. Have to tell went to my Dollar tree, yesterday. Not one pad was left. Had to laugh you have everyone running to buy them including me. I will try another dollar tree. You’re such an inspiration. Thank you.
I leave my zipper foot on through the whole process. Obviously, I've been doing this for a while. I always had food stuff in my car when I had one. 🥰🥰🥰
This tutorial was absolutely brilliant ❤ I have done “kindness” type bags before but what a great idea to make a zippered bag! I was using gallon sized ziplock bags before. Keep inspiring us with your big heart. ♥️ 💜 ❤
I save the little soaps and shampoos from hotels (although these days they use big dispensers instead) and also include hand sanitizer. Chapstick is also a good thing to include.
You know something you are simply amazing, thinking of others in need when you've had a hard morning! I sure love you and your enthusiasm to make a hard or difficult morning into an amazing day after all! You're the best!!❤❤❤❤
What an awesome role model for kindness you are for your children! When they are grown, they will tell you all the wonderful things you did/showed them!
I love this too. We have moms club at our church and I make bags that you have taught me to make . I’ve made this before to but never thought to load it up with goodies
I speak from personal experience (shudders from bad taste, so gross) I add this with the utmost kindness and respect, please don't add food in with care products. Nobody wants to eat food that smells and tastes like soap or hygiene products. I made that mistake once, never againi. Lol Maybe pick up an extra mat or 2 and make one just for food. I would add a bandana or handkerchief and a washcloth. You did Amazing! I am not sure what the freezer snafu was, they do make little locks that just stick on the outside of freezers & freezer temperature alarms that are wifi and alert your phone. It has been something I have been thinking of for myself lately Just a thought 😊❤ I hope everyone of you has a kindness filled week.
Sending you love; I understand your horrible morning!! Kids are a blessing yet so challenging at times. My 3 children are now grown and out of the house. I am sad and even miss those crazy mornings, if you can believe that!!! (I sound so old..lol, I guess that happens.) I love the kindness bag; it is a great idea. Thank you!
So there are 454 comments already and I thought, "why put my two cents worth in when I feel the same way as everyone else?". But, OMG this video made me cry and you make me smile. So there, I hope you are blessed for your kindness and wonderful outlook on life!
I love your idea to make the bags pretty. This also help get rid of scrap fabric. I keep Ziploc bags in my trunk to give away, but these are pretty and they will last longer.

Great point!
My husband teaches high school, and this is very true. We have been able out students over the years with their needs, most of the time anonymously.
Hey! A very wonderful idea. Remember to add a wash cloth/rag and ear bud thingies, (for cleaning the ears), in the bag. ❤❤❤😂😂😂

Love your list ands that brown bag!😊
Love this idea. We have an organization here called Circle the City that supports the homeless community. This would be a great thing to gift that organization to hand out. Thanks for the inspiration ❤
That's a great idea!
😊😊bless you for your kindness!
I make a pouch like this for high school graduates & put in first aid supplies for a practical gift.
You are a beautiful person in all ways. May God bless you and. your family.
You are a beautiful person inside and out. I love how you turned a rough morning into something wonderful. You have inspired me to do the same.
I'm so glad you liked it!
You are such a sweet inspiration in so many ways! Just choosing to turn the day around after a hard start, and choosing to give away kindness bags. Brilliant idea and something we could all do. Thank you 🤩
I love the way you say "it's totally fine". It reminds me of a teacher I had many years ago that used to say "Don't sweat the small stuff".
What an awesome idea. I see a lot homeless when I travel. I would run in a grocery store and buy quick food for them. But this is can work when time is limited. Thank you so much. So sorry to hear about your food. That has happened to us before. No fun
That is so thoughtful of you to buy them food!
😊good for you. Great idea! God bless
Bless your heart! That is some day! Been there, done that with 3 boys, who are now dads themselves. At the end of the day, give them a hug and hope for a better day tomorrow 😊. I just love your laugh and videos!
Such a wonderful ideal. Speading kindness is something we need all year long. Thanks for sharing.
You’re so right, kindness is always needed! 😊
Thank you❤
I'm so sorry that you had a bad morning, but I love how you turned it around! You are funny and sweet. :)
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!! You are a wonderful kind person. We need more people like you in our world! God bless you and keep you in his care
This would be great for my local shelter! I think I will embroider kindness in front of it!
That’s a wonderful idea! 😊
I love the idea of a sock! That’s really creative. 😊
You are a girl after my own heart. I love to sew gifts and give to random strangers. This is a great idea. Blessings.
Bless your heart. I do this often with my church group for the local shelters and nursing homes. 😊
That’s so awesome! 💖
Yes, doing something for someone else always makes us feel better. Remember that every day is a gift!!
It's good to ask if someone wants a male or female bag. We don't always know what people need by how they look on the outside or if they have what they need but someone they know needs a bag!
Great idea. I would glue the zipper tape down to keep it from ‘flapping’ on the inside of the finished pouch.
Love this idea..also gift cards for fast food places and gloves for cold climates
Gloves are key! 😊
Wow, thank you!
You are so kind. So many homeless out there. What a wonderful gift
Yowza! That is quite the disastrous sounding morning. Good for taking on the challenge to make it turn around for the better. Thank you!
I am totally going to do this. Lord knows I have enough of dish drying mats, I have them out the wazoo. ❤❤❤❤
Our church used to make Blessing Bags which were similar. We included combs or brushes and gift certificates for local fast food places so they could get a hot meal. These were mainly used for homeless people. Thanks for all you do and great example of kindness to others.
You are the nicest person spreading your love and talent everywhere. Love
❤
Thank you so much! That means a lot! 😊
You’re such a good hearted person, Chelsea. Our church puts bags together that we can take to keeping the car to hand out to people on the corners. It’s a good feeling when you can do that.
I think this is a wonderful thing to do, and it certainly can give someone a lot of self esteem, for sure. Bless you sweet lady
Hi Chelsea. Have to tell went to my Dollar tree, yesterday. Not one pad was left. Had to laugh you have everyone running to buy them including me. I will try another dollar tree. You’re such an inspiration. Thank you.
Oh, that's funny! I guess everyone is stocking up on kindness! 😄
Would make an excellent "get home" bag, too, with emergency car supplies.
I leave my zipper foot on through the whole process. Obviously, I've been doing this for a while. I always had food stuff in my car when I had one. 🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for being kind to the homeless
Love this tutorial, your expertise and kind heart!! 🙂
You are such a BRIGHT STAR in our world today!
Thank you for being you and sharing your brightness!!!❤✨️
Wow, thank you!
This tutorial was absolutely brilliant ❤
I have done “kindness” type bags before but what a great idea to make a zippered bag! I was using gallon sized ziplock bags before.
Keep inspiring us with your big heart. ♥️ 💜 ❤
I have started these awhile back! Embroidered " Be Kind"!❤
Thank you so much, that means a lot! 😊
YOU'RE SUCH A JEWEL! THANKS FOR SHARING .
You are so welcome!
God has blessed you to be a blessing to others!
I did not know there are freezer alarms thanks! 😊
Chelsea Chelsea Chelsea, what a great idea.....Thanks for sharing with us!!!!😉
I’m so glad you like it! 😊
Thank you!
This is beautiful. We call them blessing bags.
Great idea. Also will make a great toiletry bag for my grandson.
You’re right, it would be perfect for that!
What an awesome idea. We have a guy at church that helps the homeless… A must do!!!!!
Enjoying you kindness and your awesome projects ❣️
God bless and keep you safe and creative 😁❣️
God bless you Chelsea for all you do. Love your videos. You give me courage to sew zippers! ❤😅
I'm so glad!
So there are 454 comments already and I thought, "why put my two cents worth in when I feel the same way as everyone else?". But, OMG this video made me cry and you make me smile. So there, I hope you are blessed for your kindness and wonderful outlook on life!
Aw, that’s so sweet of you to say! 💖
I love your idea to make the bags pretty. This also help get rid of scrap fabric. I keep Ziploc bags in my trunk to give away, but these are pretty and they will last longer.
I love watching your energy , kindness and positivity. God bless you ❤
That means so much to me! 😊
That's awesome, thanks for the tutorials and showing us more closer. All you need to add "kindness" with embroidery that would be cool.
You are such a kind person we need more kindness in the world.and your a hoot to watch just love your channel keep going girl.❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the encouragement! 💖
Love that you turned your “Monday” around to bless someone else!
Chelsea you are so kind! This is a wonderful idea to spread kindness! Thank for the inspiration.
