Thank you Mr.Sole ... The 803 did a very good job lifting that heavy lump of an engine, I didnt think it was going to do it at one point, I had my fingers crossed. Hopefully the old girl will be back next year doing what it was made for, and to feature in some videos !
an excellent video paul in removing the mighty perkins engine, it just came past the loader arm's nicely. I'm now looking forward to watching the next video on the big strip down. Keep up the excellent work, pal 😊🤙
Very interesting vid , well done on maneuvering the engine out , looked quite a task , Ive just removed the transmission in mine to replace the torque amplifier and trans pump , now in the throws if putting it back and thought that was tricky enough, but reckon getting the motor out is a lot more challenging, but definitely be worth it in the end when all done , great job Paul ! Look forward to the next installment.best of luck !👍
The thing with a backhoe Hartley is that everything is heavy. Just gotta keep going and dont let the job beat ya. Life is tricky at times, and hard at other times but if you never give up you will get what you want and with great pleasure (Hopefully). Two engines removed and refitted this year (Range Rover) so Im not expecting another one of my own for some time now. Just hope that next year is going to be a better year 🤞👍
Sorry for you loss. Very nice job and detail job of remove engine. I recently purchased the same one and I would like to ask how much oil the engine holds as I think the dipstick is missing part of it. If possible could you post a photo of it and measure the length of dipstick and the part number ?
Hi, thank you, The engine holds 11 L including the filter. Perkins engine oil filter number is 2654407. The engine dipstick part number is (JCB) 02/201257 and the updated dipstick tube is 02/201788. You could try getting a used original dipstick from somebody like Vicary? Length is 24-3/4 inches from the top of the tube to the tip. Hope that helps ! 👍
So sorry for Teddy. That's a tough one to do (engine removal) but one step at time and you get her running in no time. Hang in there, Paul and stay strong.
Thanks, it was not expected with Teddy, he will be sadly missed. The engine too was not expected, very sweet running engine, we will do the work, spend some money and hopefully get the result we want👍
Nice one.. I wasn’t sure you where going to get the lift with that 803 .. Think the motor is easer to remove on my P8 as the whole front is removable and the hydraulic tank not being in the way ..
Hi Kevin, It was close, it just managed the big lift, both in height and lift capacity 💪 Yeah the project 7 is a pain to remove the engine. the later models looks to be an easier operation, but we did it 👍
I dont sorry. My early project 7 3CX has no changable wear pads, when I have too much play in the extradig, I have to weld in strips of metal between the two sliding surfaces. On the later models with the wear pads, dont you unscrew the four bolts on each side and slide the worn wear pads out, replace the pads and re adjust the four bolts on each side until the play is within spec, 3mm I beleave that to be ? 🤙
@ pulling the Liners is hard going if you Split them They’l pop right out with no pulling, Check out John Conaty tractor Spares he does a Really Good engine Re build kit, he buys in Bulk his prices can’t be Beaten, best of luck Ps. Sump ways a tonne 👍🍀
Hi Paul forgive me why pull engine and not just take head off push the piston and conrod out the top and pull liner and replace or is the engine having a complete rebuild mate 👍 to vid
Nick, with a lot of thought about what to do with this, we have decided to go with a full rebuild. As Im busy with other stuff, it will go away to have the internals checked, replaced and rebuilt, I will finish it off and refit the engine 👌👍
the person who designed the front of that jcb never had to take an engine out of one ............those bars on either side are a pain .......there should be some way to remove them easily ..... I would have had the angle grinder out .......
I agree with you there. Not sure how JCB put these machines together back in the 80s but you cant remove or install the engine as it is complete. Those bars would be better if they were bolted and removeable? But we figured it our in the end! 😆
@@PSExcavationsLLC I would have cut the bar at both ends and slid a bit of piping over it when the engine was back in and welded the welded it back up ..........I would not have the patience that you had to get all the stuff off the side of the engine ........fair play to you ....!
We dedicate this video to our companion Teddy. Born 24th July 2019, he came to us 23rd November 2022, and we had to say goodbye 30th November 2024.
Sorry for your loss, Teddy looked to be a very fine and happy memeber of you're family. No doubt about it, GSD's are the best.
Great loss , thanks ! He was very happy and really truly the best ! 💖
You've got my condolences about Teddy.
The 803 done bloody well lift the engine.💪🏻
Fingers crossed for a quick turnaround of the mighty Perkins.

Ha, it was a tight fit, little on the heavy side for the 803 to lift too, but we use what we have 👍

Thanks for the comment! Happy you're enjoying the videos 👌🤙
Great job getting the engine out.tge 803 did well there to lift it up and out .
Thanks, I did think at one point that it wouldn't get the lift, or have the power, but the 803 did it - just 💪
Sorry for you loss.

Fantastic video l had two 3cxs with bad engines got good money from dealers exporting them
Thanks Mark, a lot of equipment gets exported, some good stuff too that we should be keeping hold of 👌

Thanks Mark .. me too 💖
Might be worth putting a nice thick piece of plywood in front of the windscreen when re-installing the engine......just in case eh ?
Ha .. yeah, the engine was not as close as you may think or how it looks in the video, and im not too bad on the levers of the 803 .. am I ? 😆👍
Sorry to hear about your dog
Thank you Lee, means a lot 👍👍
