Even the last image the jump. Almost like he is soaring, but also will he also fall? Into the sea and the drink like his friend? What a summary of the complex relationship we have with our faults but also the complex relationship many have with alcohol.

One of my favourite thing about this absolute masterpiece of a movie is the love between these characters. When Peter falls down at the beginning of the scene, Martin immediately helps him up. When he sees Nikolaj, he immediately hugs him, and Nikolaj is clearly close to crying. also the connection they have with the students. Pure positivity, pure humaness.

I recently learned that the director Thomas Vinterberg lost his daughter 4 days into filming and it was her who motivated him to make it in the first place
My respect for this movie just went higher than it initially was (it was already pretty high) because here is a man that has faced the most unnatural of all tragedies and yet chose to be driven by love, love for his daughter's memory, love for his craft and most importantly love for life and it shows.
This was the best movie I saw in the past few years and it has motivated me to be happy in more ways than one
I hope Vinterberg can move on from his grief and find some semblance of happiness and I hope wherever his daughter Ida is, she is at peace and smiling down on him.

But on the other hand this scene is so emotional and the music is sonuplifting and to see the character dance finally so freely is some kind of a ride.

What a beautiful and life-affirming film! To me, this scene represents a mostly happy ending.
The source of Mads’ joy here is not alcohol, but the upcoming reunion with his wife and family.
At the start of the film, Mads character is very “Apollonian.” He is going through life like a routine, he is strict with his class and himself, and he has lost the vigor and optimism of youth.
As the movie goes on, he swings into the Dionysian; he loses his self-restraint and embraces chaos and hedonism. The negatives of both extremes are easy to see.
But here at the end, it seems he has finally found a balance between Apollo and Dionysus. He has discovered the true source of joy in his life, his family, and he has regained his vitality and optimism. The question is, will he continue to live in balance after the movie ends? I like to think so. 😊

@@naverich4603 so the tradition of wearing a hat like this dates all the way back to the 1800s although the look has evolved a bit, but not too much most people get their hat from C.L. Seifert which is a royal supplier who is also in charge of making some of the royals uniforms
the colour that you have on your cap represents the kind of high school you went to fx if you have a blue hat you went to an HHX high school (your major will be focused on business) if you have a darker blue you went to an HTX high school (your major will focus on science and STEM) if you have a red one you went to an STX high school (your major will be a mix of everything and not have a specific focus fx. I majored in languages, but I still had math and science just not to the same degree as someone at an HTX school) there are also other colours but these are the traditional
the day you get your cap is the day of you last oral exam (for me its history so just kill me now) your grade, which you will get right after your exam, will then be written inside of the cap many of your friends will also write a little message inside of it too
you're allowed to wear the hat every day for a whole month (and we do) during that month a lot of people will throw studentergilder (a party to celebrate their graduation) fx I have 15 studentergilder this year and most of them are in a row (i feel bad for my lever haha) it's usually a party you would care a lot about and decorate really nicely while your celebrating and partying for that whole month there is a set of rules/challenges that's all about how to ruin your hat the most (within those rules of course) some are easy like go skinny dipping (then you can cut a wave into the sweatband) or have a one night stand, but some are also a bit more out there like seduce one of your former teachers or have sex with a nurse/doctor at the hospital (you have to be at the hospital bc of alcohol poisoning) and there are a bunch more
the day that you graduate is not the day that you get your hat but the day that you get your diploma you will have to sit through some speeches and such but afterwards, that's when it becomes fun bc your whole class will have rented a truck (like the one Mads Mikkelsen jumps on) and we will decorate it before graduation so that we when we've gotten our diploma can drive around from house to house all day drinking and celebrating and the people in the streets will cheer you on and cars will honk at you and this is whats happening in this scene they are on their graduation truck route

And then we go outside, roaming streets in our suits in this hot weather as it is usually the start of june, and we ask for money from people around so that we could get drunk for free....basically....that is the tradition and I guess there is a lot more others do but I never cared much about that.
