I just l love all of your tutorials!!!! You are so wonderful and pleasant to watch and listen to and your knowledge is incredible. I am 56 and just getting serious about sewing my own clothes especially with Menopause and my shape being harder to keep the way it used to look when I was younger. LOL Being able to make my own clothes especially from clothes that already fit me well, well that is priceless. Thanks again for all of your tutorials and being you.
Your tutorials are way too fast!! it took me like 4 hours to make the t shirt! And I have no idea how to do that collar, i cant even see what you are doing :(
wendy, can you please make a tutorial on how you make your patterns? if you're just using clothes you already have, can you still show us how you do it and edit (if you wanna make it a little bit different) it along the way? please? thank you!
+mina rose roxas Yes! So sorry! In the vast majority of cases I lay down a piece of clothing on the fabric and cut half an inch away from the edge to leave room for sewing seams. I'll show more in the future!
Thank you! I love your videos. I just find it a bit rushed somehow? I'm sorry because I'm totally clueless and just wanna learn how i can actually start sewing. haha. i'm sorry and thank you! :)
@@blueberrypie9608 do you know exact material for the softer shirt? I have this tshirt that is labeled 100%cotton but super soft and another one that is also cotton but very uncomfortable. Any reccomendations on how I can find the exact fabric?
I am so happy I came across your page. I'm very very new at sewing and I feel so much better now that I have an easy tutorial to follow as I practice sewing. Thank you so much. I can't wait to binge watch all of your videos lol
The neck technique is all that! Thanks so much. I messed up a neckline on a shirt. It's my first time sewing t-shirts, but will always use your technique.
Ohhhh my gosh! I'm a hair stylist, do you know how many black bleach stained t-shirts I own? Now I can make an endless supply of fresh tees! Thanks so much Wendy! Enjoy your honeymoon! 💕❤️
Soooo I'm going to try this out... Update: I've just completed step 1 of sewing AND IM LOVING IT will update later.... Edit: TYSM FOR THE VIDEO THE TOP WAS AMAZING
Hi! I'm not an expert, but for a beginner, I recommend cotton or stretchy polyester. It might fit better if its stretchy, but a firm cotton is easier to work with.
interesting video... ive become very tired of tshirts from shops... even wen i buy expensive ones... its still a gamble on how long they will last and some of my cheaper ones outlast them.... ive wanted to make my own shirts for years and i find ur video motivating.... i liked the point about putting tension on the collar as u sew it to the shirt to make it lie flat... i find collars are one of the first things to go on shop shirts... sometimes after only a couple washes
I dont know how i never thought of sewing the sleeves that way.. I guess Im so used to always attaching the sleeves after figuring out my torso pattern but attaching AND sewing this was and then sewing the side seam is SO much easier
I plan on making my own especially since I’m on a total gym and Walmart shirts will be harder to fit after a while it one thing I will advise you on and my late grandmother would say the same and that’s to throw that brother machine out and get a singer. My first brother gave me issues with the bobbin now I have a singer confidence 7640 which I have found to be a versatile solid machine.
Just found this. Great info, especially about the ability to change the sleeve styles. I always tug on my sleeves. They seem to crawl up on me. I need to be able to make them a little longer and more straight across. Thank you.
Had no idea there was a difference between men's shirt sleeves and women's shirt sleeves lol. Good piece of info to know! Now I'm going to work on some of my own T-shirts too! Awesome vid!!!!
Wendy, great video! Exactly what fabric did you use? If it was a knit, what weight or percent stretch? I’m just starting to work with knits and am a little nervous.
I have many questions. What about seam allowance when sewing the shoulders together? How do you actually pin the sleeves to the hole? What about seam allowance when it comes to sewing the sides? How did you actually sew the collar? We couldn’t see much.
Hi Wendy ! I've been a fan of yours for years. I love your content ! I've been trying to make shirts and I find that making a sleeve is so hard, even when I trace a shirt I already own. Could you do a video about drafting sleeves, please? Love from Newfoundland, Canada
hey wendy.... can you please make a video on how to cut out the patterns for the t-shirt step by step. the sewing part i have just trying to get the shirt pattern to look right. Thanks in advance
Hi. Can you use this technique if you want to make a reversible t-shirt? Or are there other steps that needs to be done differently? (Asking cause I'm a total newbie.)
I'm not entirely sure how I got here from cat videos, but this reminded me of when my grandmother taught me how to sew (though our snacks had been pineapple cubes, not apples.) I'll be watching more of your videos soon.
hai wendy it would be so nice if you can make a tutorial on how to make an oversized tee! It's too hard to find an oversize tee that suit my bodytype so I decided to make my own..by the way , your video is awsome!
What type of fabric is best used to make a t-shirt. Not a new sewer but never made my own clothes and wanna give it a try but never know the best material. Needs a little stretch but soft as will be made for my sister.
Hello Wendy, when you were attaching the collar, you said to make sure there is more tension on the collar piece than on the shirt so that it lays flat when finished. May I please know what you mean by 'more tension'? Thanks :) I've just started sewing and look forward to being able to sew beautifully like you one day!
How much apart is the foot away from the fabric? I forgot the exact name for it and it's hard to explain. I'm just in the middle of making a T shirt. And thank you, this is amazing!
hi there, do you have a more beginner friendly playlist? (i.e, an absolute beginner to dress making - let's say, haven't even fixed buttons on a shirt kinda level)
I REAAAALLLYYY DO love this DIY, and I feel so bad because I think it's a bit too fast and as a person who is not speaking english super duper well, it's a bit confusing when it goes so fast. But I do love it, and I wished that I got it. But it's a little too fast for me. You're great! And I'm sorry I wasn't fast enough.
Unfortunately the ad at the end was smack in the center of the picture of the final v-neck picture so I was able to see how it turned out, but I was able to follow along on the steps and am sure I'll like the outcome. Thanks for sharing the video.
I think that The "insider costum", is an awesome brand of shirt, at least it´s not seems to be hard producing. Because of that ,It could be a motivate to do it!
Hey wendy! I was wondering if you knew what specific material they use to make commercial tshirt's neckline? Its like a ribbed material unlike the rest of the tshirt.
+Valerie Ye Yes! In many cases it's ribbed knit in the same colour as the shirt, which you can pick up at fabric stores too. In my varsity jacket tutorial for example I used ribbed white knit fabric to make the cuff, collar, and waistband.
+withwendy oh okay thankyou so much wendy!! Hehe im starting to make all my favourite basics from scratch and im finding myself refering to your videos more often! Happy new year! Have a great year ahead!
I don't understand how I mess up sewing the sleeves to the shirt. This is always where I mess up. I wish there was a video that gave a better view of what hell is going on cause it's the most aggravating thing.
Great tutorial! I just started sewing like 2 months ago and was able to make a long sleeve camo shirt for paintballing. My collar is a little floppy, is there a trick to pulling the collar tighter as you attach it? i made it a 1.5" mandarin collar to protect my neck a little so that probably didn't help me.
Just got my white t-shirt done! OMG! I loved it. Rushing back to the store to buy more fabric hahaha
That makes me so happy!!

wow a recent comment. hmm i think cotton is the type of fabric that is used on most t shirts ☺

@@MissLilCuteTea I think it depends on how it's made or how the shirt is sewed. I'm wearing cotton right now and it's comfortable.
@@MissLilCuteTea you can try voile or jersey fabric
I love everything about this video! The lighting, the fact that your making a Tshirt, the editing!! Everything... great job! ❤️❤️❤️

I keep getting messages from people who got sewing machines for Christmas, this is so exciting!!
lmaooo burn it into my head 🤣

That is a really nice, Greek and clean white shirt. it looks so perfect. and stretchy
how much fabric did you buy in total? i'm wondering if i have enough at home
I really love your idea!
You see!
Many of features are very expensive cost. Making good t-shirts for yourself can be a begning.
Hey you should sell your measurement cut outs and put a link also for where to buy the fabric
Wendy, great video! Exactly what fabric did you use? If it was a knit, what weight or percent stretch? I’m just starting to work with knits and am a little nervous.
How much fabric do I buy ? and what fabric do you recommend ?
I got a sewing machine for Christmas and I'm excited to start but I feel like I have a long way to go! I hope I can successfully make this 🤞🏽

How things changed since the release of this video
It's still a great tutorial
And kind of cool to see the progress
Love the video. I'm also planning to make one myself but I don't know what fabric to use. Can I use any kind of knit fabric?
+Yves George Sanchez Yes! The thickness of the knit will just determine how warm and how the fabric will drape on your body.
my favorite person on youtube
Do you not use an overlock or serger to sew stretchy fabrics? I thought this was needed to keep the threads intact on the garment.
Thank you very much, the tee shirts look so good

Thank you Wendy! Looks great and you explained it simply.
How important are rotary cutting mats? I was thinking of getting one as I want to start making my own clothes, but you don't seem to need one! :)
tasniah they're a preference, if you can cut straight with scissors, do it! however the Rotary cutter tends to be more ease and speed!
any tips on the best fabrics?
Would this work the same way if I wanted a different color collar? Like a ringer tee.
For a ringer tee tutorial you can go to Annika Victoria's video on the alien ringer tee. she shows you how to make and sew on the binding.

we dont mind if the videos are a bit longer if they are more easy to follow!

How do you make the sleeves for the more masculine t shirt?
