    Hi Lydia! I’m a male who grew up watching my mother making all kinds of garments for my siblings in Mexico. My mom would make the neatest jeans & shirts for my sisters, even dresses.. mainly bcz we were so poor but now I’m taking this on as a hobby & I just wanna say that I love your videos. You literally do make everything beginner friendly & im stoked to have my tshirts come out as perfect as yours. Thank you so much for the videos. I just subscribed. Best of wishes guys!

      I also am a male watching my mom so many years ago. I used to be a (hobby)blacksmith, until I got diagnosed with an autoimmune muscle disease in januari. And me, bigmouth, told a friend I could sew. She dared me, gave me a design to try, I installed my wife’s sewing machine and my mom’s serger in the livingroom and got started. After a few months of trying, cursing, … I think I’m ready to make my first very simple t-shirt. So I’m going to study your video with a lot of interest. It’s funny now, when I call my mom (she’s 80, I’m 60) we talk about stitches, fabric, threads, needles… I love it 😂

      I just got COVID three years ago I got auto immune disease it attacked my muscle so I have MYOSITIS THR pain can be horrible I can't survive it I begged them to put me in the hospital the pain was so bad they would not sent me home to die. Did you have COVID. Verify your auto immune disease the Doctor here wanted me on coseyntex so he couldn't make $1000 don't do it until I verified second opinion. I got treated with steroids as needed it calms the pain. About 30/40% good luck on sewing@@gverlies

    Ayup Lydia! Your TH-cam channel was the first place I stumbled upon when searching how to learn to make homemade clothes. I'm so glad I did because your positive energy gave me the belief to go for it. I recently found a vintage 1960's second hand Singer sewing machine for £20. Mint condition. Today I opened it up to learn about the machine. Ordered a beginners bobbin kit off Amazon. When it arrives tomorrow I will then learn how to set the machine up. Then practise can begin. Thanks for inspiring me. Peace n luv from the UK.

    *PAUSE*... This would be the perfect sewing box with the fabric, ribbing, tape, needles, thread and pattern. Id pay good money for that! A good tee is very hard to find as you said. Also would be a huge time saver re sourcing fabrics. Although that can be fun but I always get sucked into looking at other fabrics and lose focus. Awesome design btw. Ok, i'll continue watching... *PLAY*

    I agree with Merry Austin. You are an amazing teacher. The first one who shows everything in detail and throughly explains how to do everything to an easy understanding; and doesn't blast nauseating music. Plus, you merge so much encouragement into your tutorial. And you make a great model. You are the teacher and inspiration I need to get going on my sewing projects. Thank you.

I'm disabled and I'm sitting all the time so I hate when i get shirts that are too long or too short and just really tight in the mid section as i'm not fat but sitting down i have gut and my arms, i hate when the sleeves are too short. I'm constantly pulling my sleeve down on my right arm because most my shirts the sleeves are short. Thank you for this tutorial it really helped me see what i need to do to learn to do this and fix my clothes.

    Hello, first off I’m gotta say that your energy is great. Your inspiring me to want to sew more. I’m still trying to learn how to sew. I have watched several sewing videos but most just don’t give me that type vibe and inspiration to want to get off my butt and do more. Even though, I work a lot I still want to have that drive to sew when I get off early some afternoons and of course on the weekends. You explain your work greatly and I was wondering if you thought about having a sewing class? Lol! Especially for the beginners. You take your time and not rush through to where I don’t feel lost or discouraged. I appreciate the sticky notes you added in the video on what you were doing. And can I ask; did you make that skirt? I love it! Also, do you have a v neck tee shirt video or have you thought about making one. I love a v neck tee shirt lol.

    • @LydiaNaomi
      @LydiaNaomi  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mine only does this when working with really thick fabric. Changing the needle to a 14 or 16 made a big difference. If its happening on medium weight or thin fabric with only 2 ish layers then that's odd.

    Hi pretty...!
    Great teaching 👍
    And i like your skirt more than the shirt...😚 its very trendy.
    As for shirt, you did wonders ✌️
    I'm impressed 👏 😎
    Can I do the hem with the same good old single needle ?? Will it do?
    Please reply me dear

      Thank you! I made the skirt too ☺️ there's a video for it on my channel!
      Yes you can use a simple zigzag stitch on the hem, I sometimes prefer a zigzag since it's easier to set-up and harder to botch 😊

    • @munazah9838
      @munazah9838 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Lydia Naomi but the zigzag stitch will show the outer/right side of the shirt, too. Will it look good?
      And wow, now I'm going to see that skirt video of yours 😊

    So pretend I've only ever had one sewing machine needle, constantly fight with it every time i try to use it, and can only*mostly* sew a straight seam. How possible would you rate this? Is jersey fabric hard for a beginner (i ask having never used a beginner friendly fabric, lol)

    Hey Lydia! Im making this now. Alittle confused. The sleeves cut outs both have two notches on them. But only the back of the shirt has two notches. So only match the notches on one side? Thank you!

    • @LydiaNaomi
      @LydiaNaomi  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes just match the double notches and you will be fine :) follow the tutorial :)

    I have some jersey in my collection that has no matching ribbing. Is it still possible to create the neckline using the existing fabric?

    • @LydiaNaomi
      @LydiaNaomi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I recommend you make a narrower strip for the neck band than what I have, take off 1/2" or so. You may also have to shorten or lengthen the piece depending on the amount of stretch in your. But you can sew it in the same way as I sew in the ribbing. Or you can bind the edge with the same fabric, but I don't have a tutorial for that at the moment.

      @@LydiaNaomi that’s ok, I will look it up. I actually discovered a way to do this in a vintage sewing book.

    I love this tee Hirt. Downloaded the pattern and went to link for fabric. Thought it was a great price until I saw shipping! Why is shipping to US so much. It is 3 x more than shipping from Aus, or the UK. Disappointed in WA🙁

    6:08 what is the fabric on the neckline, and whats the weight? I need to get this fabric for my tshirt, where did u get it?

    • @LydiaNaomi
      @LydiaNaomi  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a 1x1 rib knit. I got it from Fabric-land. I don't know the weight but it isn't heavy, its like any t-shirt rib knit.

    I am a newbe and want to try my hand at sewing a knit teeshirt. What fabric should I use? I tried a jersy knit . It didn't come out very well. I used a yard and a half at close to $9 a yard. Is there a cheaper alternative for me to practice with? Does a Teeshirt have to be stretch?

    • @LydiaNaomi
      @LydiaNaomi  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It does need to be stretchy to some degree otherwise the neck won't fit you. So yes use a jersey knit of some sort, for this I like to use a fabric that doesn't have too much drape so its a more boxy look :)

    If you don’t have matching ribbing fabric, can you use the same tshirt fabric?

    • @LydiaNaomi
      @LydiaNaomi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can but you want pretty stretchy fabric and maybe make the band thinker. More like 1/2" or 1.5 cm :)

    since youre using the straight stich. Would the tshirt be able to stretch out when im wearing it ?

    • @LydiaNaomi
      @LydiaNaomi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used the straight stitch only on the shoulder with twill tape which doesn't stretch. Clear elastic with an overlock or zigzag is traditionally used on shoulder seams. That way if the shoulder does stretch it bounces back. You don't want the shoulder to stretch out, whereas everywhere else you want it to be able to stretch somewhat.

  • @igorgois728

    so, just the zig zag stitch will do it on the sides?

    • @LydiaNaomi
      @LydiaNaomi  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could also do a lightening stitch or broken zigzag which are a bit more sturdy :)
