This scene is actually hilarious lol. The restaurant scene is genius, they switch seats, they catch the audience off guard (given that they don't show the earlier scene in the yankee stadium with the real steinbrenner) - then when they switch seats, Elaine starts wailing her arms around and talking real fast like steinbrenner does while the real steinbrenner seats there in silence. They should've used this!
The show ran long, so they had to cut something. The problem was, they were using the fake Steinbrenner (Larry David), and they felt that after using the real Steinbrenner, they could no longer use the fake Steinbrenner.

I wish he actually was on the show more, it is actually refreshing to have the real Steinbrenner on and not the exaggerated version Larry does. The real George Steinbrenner has a surprisingly pleasant voice, like a real go-getting manager would have.
Steinbrenner is a bit wooden, but he does give it his all. I can see why they cut it. It's just not quite working, but Julia Louise Dreyfus is great in her Steinbrenner-like rant.

I can’t believe I don’t remember this part, I’ve seen every episode at least 5 times, especially seasons 5 and up. This trips me out...it was my all time favorite show growing up.
While I can completely understand why the Steinbrenner scenes were never used (I get that he wasn't an actor, and comedy is all about timing), what saddens me is the fact that, as a result of not using "The Boss's" scenes, one of Laney's greatest performances on the show (that final scene is gold, Jerry, GOLD!), never saw the light of day as well. "Yeah that's a shame."😄
This was actually a deleted scene from Seinfeld when George Costanza was working with the New York Yankees. Larry David was not pleased with the real Steinbrenner's performance in this scene compared to his own interpretation of him that he's used to doing that he had to cut it. Nonetheless, still a good piece of Seinfeld history.

It's forgotten now, but at the time, there was some talk that George may have violated confidentiality by blabbing details of his appearance on the nationally syndicated "The Fabulous Sports Babe" radio show before the episode aired. If true, that would be a reason why they cut him, because if artistic considerations were the key, JL-D's rant alone would have justified keeping George in.

I can't believe after all these years this is the first time I've seen this! I haven't watched any of the series' digital releases; I suppose they included this cut scene. Ha! I wish they had shown it orginally, but I can also see that although the real Steinbrenner did a good job, his energy wasn't as comedic - but the parodox is still there. And that final restaurant scene... Funny as Hell!
I love JLD doing a satire of Larry David’s Steinbrenner! Too bad it never aired, but seeing the REAL Steinbrenner ruins the continuity of Larry David’s Steinbrenner character.
It's not amazing. It's not professional. It's not as good as Larry David's Steinbrenner. But it's pretty decent for a non-actor. Not as good as Paul O'Neill but no worse than Keith Hernandez. And what it lacks in polish it kinda makes up for by actually being George Steinbrenner. When they said it he wasn't good, I imagined much, much worse than this.

He's trying to to the parody of himself, which is a very specific performance, and he doesn't know how to read the dialogue for comedic effect. He's just saying the lines while gesticulating. Whether the show ran short or long, they were right to cut the scenes out. The overall chemistry and comedic value just simply don’t measure up to the standard of Seinfeld. They wrote these lines for Steinbrenner to be spoken in a similar manner to the way Larry David did it. The real Steinbrenner was slow and his rhythm was off. It was supposed to be a quick fire erratic style the way Larry David did it like boom boom boom: “ that’s nonsense young lady, you’re coming with me, we’re going to have a good time, you lose a little weight, will dance, it’ll be great...” etc. Rapid fire-style. But hey, Steinbrenner wasn’t an actor so you can’t really fault him much.
I was expecting worse and had it been in the episode originally, I might not even notice it seeming a bit out of place, but as things stand, I'm glad they kept it out :P
