    Just bed the rings on the dyno and drop the oil start tuning it beats going back twice mate

    • @ChristopherHallett
      @ChristopherHallett 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As a diesel mechanic I rebuilt plenty of big truck engines that were started, temps and pressures checked, taken for a quick drive to heat cycle everything and ensure the rings bedded nicely, then an oil and fiter change and off it went with 2 loaded trailers on the back from Perth to the Eastern States and back. I've only ever run in two engines in personal cars, and I did prett much the same thing - start 'em, check temps and pressures, get it nice and hot for 20 minutes or so, then oil and filter change and that was it. "run in" done. From then you can give it the beans, if it breaks it was never going to survive anyway even if you babied it for 5000 klms beforehand.

    • @MotiveVideo

      Final torquing of the crank bolt isn't done until engine and drivetrain is installed and wheels/tyres on the car. Car is on the ground and in 5th gear and someone in driver's seat puts foot on brakes hard. That way the engine won't turn over when you torque it.

      @@MotiveVideo cheers man! It looked like a garage 101 kit which I think I’m just about to buy so just wondered if it was the same you could comment on it.
      Thanks.

    I don't get the 1000km run in tune? Why? Bed the rings in on the dyno for 60-100kms, drop the oil and tune it right. 2-500km mineral oil again and then drop that and change to synthetic and enjoy. Does anyone know why (have a legitimate reason) the 1000kms run in tune is a thing?

      Bed rings in on dyno. We use synthetic from get go. The run in is also to test all other systems for leaks, noises etc whole taking it easy and heat cycle things so can then spanner check etc.
      its not essential but good to do. Doesnt have to be 1000
