I love Cavia, they’re one of the most underrated studios of the 6th gen right there with Red Entertainment. Constantly putting out weird experimental 6-7/10s. Still sad we never got their final game Cry On, one of the many what could have beens

Well if Cavia made Bullet Witch, they are the or were the only company that have pulled off full scale environmental effects with that bullet witch, where tornado and meteor storm were so epic even you could die from it if you get caught in the devastation. I actually really liked Bullet Witch because it was a decent game despite its flaws. I still sometimes put it on just to see the damage you can do with those epic spells. It's a real shame Cavia never did a Bullet Witch 2 or continued as a company. They could have gotten so much better.

Very good video. I never played Bullet Witch, but I love how much you talked about Bullet Witch. My jaw fucking dropped at the building explosions and rubble flying everywhere - I love that kind of destructible environment stuff in games like Earth Defence Force, Otogi or the DBZ Tenkaichi games, and this is such a wicked cool extreme example of that. AND IT'S ON PC?! Why have I only just learned this?!
I was also immensely pleased when you were talking about the music for Drakengard. As you were discussing the emotional state of the music, I was thinking to myself "hmm, maybe the music in Drakengard is scoring things from how Caim sees things", and then you said the music could be the music in Caim's brain. What a fucking mind-meld, heck yeah.

NieR:Replicant/Gestalt is my favorite game of all time, but out of all Yoko Taro’s games... I don’t think about any of them as much as I do Drakengard 1. There’s nothing beautiful, meaningful, sympathetic about the entire game. It’s nothing but vile, grotesque, and... quirky. Very quirky, but I kind of love it? maybe it’s just the whole atmosphere for me, it’s impeccable. The soundtrack. Cutscenes. And it’s endings are iconic. B, E, and in my opinion, especially D are some of my favorite endings in gaming.
Drakengard’s 20th anniversary is next year, I hope it gets a remaster. With all the games getting (occasionally pointless) remasters now I’m just hoping my favorite stupid edgy drakenjosh game gets its chance, too.

Cavia has long been my favorite dev of games that are really not my favorites. Drakengard gave me literal headaches. Bullet Witch's aiming controls frustrate most of the fun out of the game. That said I also find them incredibly charming(?) in a way that makes me want to love them despite the reality of how hard they push me away once in-game. Geez, if I ever needed a game to exemplify why I'm weird and have freakishly abnormal tastes...it'd be "Drakengard" with how I enjoyed playing it. Like yeah, it slogs at points since some maps indeed are too big at times, not to mention leveling weapons can become messy since it skews badly by endgame. But the gameplay was never something I felt hampered my enjoyment. Heck, to this day, I still fondly recall repeating the 2nd ground mission over and over again since it was great for ranking up kills to level weapons, especially if you managed to take down the secret timed enemies.
Like damn, I even lent the game to my cousin and he got into the series as well. Liked it just as much as I did.
So as a result, it always gets to me how nearly everyone I ever hear talk about the game mentions how "bad" of a game it is. How so many people are happy that Cavia shut down since they were "terrible" developers. It's caused some pretty awful cognitive dissonance for me, especially as this feeling has since spread to basically everything else I enjoy now. Second guessing basically everything now.

The loop in Emerald Coast is very jank, always working correctly if you simply press forward, and always killing you if you do anything else, which isn't good for a first level where the players don't yet know how to play or if a 2D Sonic fan tries to spin through it. Ace combat 3 Electosphere is known as being the most out there ace combat game with 5 endings, intertwined characters and factions.

Here's a video of the song sources for all of Drakengard 1 which is really cool for the Drakenheads out there: th-cam.com/video/qoRGva8Y7QI/w-d-xo.html

Drakengard 1/ DOD 1 is a game where I feel they took old european hero legends and dug up how awful they were. like that Idea of a legendary hero that has a statue who fought for a very european kingdom on the brink of being conquered by another european nation be saved by a ruthless killer who is looked up on in history. despite the destruction of farmers and villagers who happen to be part of his nation all for revenge or glory.

One of my biggest ''OMG'' moments of my life was when BULLETWITCH made a surprise drop on STEAM, having my xbox360 gone and my copy of buleltwitch on it also gone, having the game on steam was a treat, honestly one of my most favorite B-games ever made, the last boss was insane, the whole game was insane, and we all know, Bayonetta was based on her and those are facts, Bulletwitch needs a reboot.

Man I recently spent SO much time getting the on-rails RE games on the PS3 to work. I bought the whole move system, some killzone branded move guns (1 of them is still lost in the mail), re-hacked a ps3 and tracked down the roms, it was so worth it though. The controls felt surprisingly good. Would have probably been cheaper and easier on Wii, but I don't have an upscaler or a working Wii U. For sure a mind blow that it was made by the nier people though!

I was for sure there was no way the skyscrapers would go down....the games to old....heheheHAHHAHAAAAA but boy was I wrong...the hell flame meteors destroyed the skyscrapers and that is proper headgame a proper mind blowing....when something I didnt think could happen is better than what I could even imagine not happening.

I would actually kill to see a COD entry vibing with the same energy as Winback 2's Pre-rendered intro cut-scene. Also damn, it's WEIRD how Bullet Witch is a palatable and enjoyably Janky Game now that it's not tied to a crapped out 360 with it's 10 Frames per second. Bless the devs who decided to give it a surprise PC Port 12 years after it's initial release. FUCK those snipers, though!

  • @Naterkix
    @Naterkix 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Okay... This video makes me _really_ want to see Bullet Witch get a re-releasae. Not a full-on remake, just pretty up the graphics, make the controls a better and shore up that frame rate and boom.I'm not sure what got fixed and/or changed for the PC version but I'm talking maybe a NieR: Replicant V.numbers-style where it's the same overall but has been polished up significantly. Even if it is just a big dumb "shooty-lady blows up stuff with bullets and magic" it looks pretty rad and looks like it's better than 90% of the stuff that shows up on Steam and (somehow) the Switch's eShop.

How have I not seen Winback before? It's probably one of the most impressive N64 games I have ever seen.
Dang, I will literally try to play Bullet witch for shits and giggles.
Not to sure about the 360, but a PS3 game that tries to be 8th gen has a specific look and I love it.
I'm not sure how to convey it in words. But basically, when the game tries to punch above its weight and is held back by the hardware.
