      The dry ice effect is very convoluted to set up and extremely heavy on performance. Asher was going to share a full tutorial on it be decided against as it was very "hacky", which basically means that while it looks very pretty it's not a useable solution.

      @ThePC007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It'd be difficult to sync the simulation's state over a network (if it's a multiplayer game), but maybe for a singleplayer one it might work (assuming it doesn't let you save at any point in the game, since saving the state to disk may also pose a challenge.).

    • @MiljanBojovic
      @MiljanBojovic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ThePC007 OR you could just kinda cheat. When loading the game, it shouldn't load the particles, just a cheap effect that disappears quite quickly. You save the data just in order to place those cheap particles when loading and then immediately start simulating the real thing, I know it's not the best solution but it might be good for the average player. I think people wouldn't even notice or care :)

    • @ThePC007
      @ThePC007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MiljanBojovic Yeah, I noticed that some multiplayer games don't sync their physics objects at all and it works fine-ish in most cases (CS:GO doesn't sync the corpses of dead players, believe it or not). But sometimes the desync just gets very noticeable, especially when playing with another player who is in the same room.
      I suppose whether or not such a trick would work depends on the effect itself. A flamethrower would need to be implemented in such a way that its hit detection is still independent of the fluid simulation and the simulation only serves to make it look better, as in that case, a desync wouldn't be very noticeable (and wouldn't need to be simulated server-side), however when it comes to snow physics where players can leave footprints in the snow it's a different story entirely.

    unreal when used by artists: beautiful volumetric simulations in real time at 60 fps
    unreal when used by me: places a cube and framerate drops from 140 fps to 12

      The future you're envisioning will happen between now and 10 years. No doubt in my mind.
      You heard it first here, from me. The future will hold a VR platform where this level of physics is a default. Also, mass number of NPCs despite massive player scale! Multiplayer worlds will feel like single player worlds but with people!

    Once you go unreal 5 I don't think I can ever go back. Coming from Atari days to now. I have games I love but can never go back to some games because of the graphics. Now VR just amazes me. It is a beautiful thing. Can't wait to start playing on this engine.

      I remeber NVIDIA using special smoke effects for Arkham knight batmobile tire smoke, it looked incredible for 2015.
      So far haven't seen any game using such smoke tech.
      Yeah this UE5 thing is more promising without perfomance penalties.

      @@Shadowed007 I wish they ported Arkham Knight PC quality to PS5 / Series X, I remember playing on my GTX 1050 TI a sight to behold, but it struggled to lock at 60fps so I had to disable a lot of these options.

      GRID already used realtime voxel smoke. Not very high res, but you were clearly able to see it was real 3D smoke when performing a wheel spin and pausing the game and the cam was rotating around the freezed scene. But nothing compared to this
