Sir I think Col Tod got this wrong. Amarkot on the name of Amarsingh Sodha.
Place had Name Amarkot even before Sodhas took over. As per "Nainsi" Sodhas has lineage from Parmars and first of Sodha had Amarkot from Jam Tamaich. Sodhas has two settlements Ratakot and Amarkot. None of the Sodha in the lineage mentioned by Nainsi has name Amarsingh. Interestingly Nainsi Hindi translation which I m referring mentions Umarkot ( Amarkot ). Not sure whether it's translation or Nainsi original work in Rajasthani has the same.
