Great review, made me feel like the first time hearing about the WH40K universe again! Regarding the "silly things" like their height - it's actually pretty simple and makes sense. Humans < Astartes < Primarchs < The Emperor (size wise). It's not because of their intellect, it's because of their phisycal genetic modifications (among other things). A Primarch (like Horus) is to an astartes what an Astartes is to a Human, an absolute colossus. The Primarchs were basically hand crafted by the Emperor to be the generals to his army. And the Astartes are smaller scale versions of the primarchs (We also have the Adeptus Custodes which are bigger than a "regular" Astartes and things like that, or the newest Primaris Marines which are bigger then "regular" Astartes, but I'm simplifying for the example's sake).

@Perturab0o Thanks for watching the video and the explanation. I'm now halfway through False Gods. What I don't understand yet is the cost or trade-offs of the genhancements. The Witcher has the Trial of the Grasses to set stakes. But here, if the genhancements are arbirtrary, why aren't all soldiers Astartes-built? Or why aren't all Astartes Primarch-built? That's why I think the size difference is heavy-handed. Maybe I should ask these questions to Kyril Sindermann hehe

@@coelhoigor I believe that the deeper you go into the books and lore - you will have answers to your questions. Which is not to say that the WH40K universe doesn't have weird or absurd (even by their standards) things! But to your point - why is not everyone in the US army a Green Beret? Why is not everyone a Navy Seal? Exaggerate that a few thousand times and you got your answer! The procedure to "make" a space marine requires gene-seed, which is basically part of a Primarch. And those are, as we know, few and far between. I mean I don't know how far along you are with the lore so I don't want to spoil anything myself. In any case, the Primarch themselves were engineered the same way using the Emperor's gene seed. And as you probably know by now - the Emperor doesn't do very well these days. Then, not everyone is compatible with the seed to begin with, they need to have certain genes within them in the first place to be eligible to start the "conversion", and it just so happens that mostly young men possess it, which answers another certain question from the universe. Theeeen, the gene seed needs to be as close as possible to pure (there are flaws which cause things like the red rage, or whatever it's called and other "mutations"), things like rejection rate needs to be taken into account, as well as the the post-conversion challenges. Now that I think about it, it's actually pretty well explained. And I'm sure I forget other things that have to do with the extremely over the top bureaucratic nature of the Imperium. In any case, as I said - it will become clearer as you advance the plot. Hope you can make it all the way! It's a great universe, and I, for one, used to take it way too seriously when I was younger. No regrets there though :)

Welcome to the vast Warhammer world. I started with 'Decent of Angels' as a random pick from the library not knowing any lore. The follow-on book 'Fallen Angels' and I was hooked.
I've read all the books in the heresy and it's an amazing ride.

My friend, reading all the books is an amazing feat of dedication! Impressive commitment! I'm not sure if I'll have the stamina, but I'll take it one book at a time and go with the flow.

Very nice video, I'm glad you liked it and find myself with pretty much the same takeaways.
The height difference between the characters wasn't always that way. It had been all normal heights in the very beginning in the 80s, but quickly became what it is now.
I don't know if the lore or the tabletop game caused that. But it just has to do with the genetic science.
Outside of the lore, I think it might be influenced by archaic art like the Egyptian reliefs where the hierarchy of political/religious importance is represented by a hierarchy of scale.
Horus, on top of having an Egyptian gods name, is typically depicted with a conduit sticking out of the side of his head like an Egyptian "side-lock of youth". So there is some recurring infuence among many other historical/religious influences.

Thanks for taking the time to watch my video. The connection to Egyptian iconography makes a lot of sense!

I want to tell you so much but dont want to spoil it. When you read a few books a lot starts to make sense.
