As a Porsche dealership tech - during the entire production run of the 914, you don't need to remove the tank to remove the wiper motor. Custom mod a 10mm.box wrench. Put motor/ linkage in park position , make note of this / angles etc. Remove motor. Saves time - I've R&R'd one in 45 min.
I am just about to refit the airbox on my car (originally I intended doing it a year ago!!!!) a question, why did you not fit the black plastic grill in the top of the airbox?
@@barefootgaragejax9252 Thanks for your prompt reply Jax. Perhaps Porsche had a problem with dead things collecting in the air box so on later models fitted the extra black plastic grill. Mine is a '75 car. What a pig it is fitting the airbag on your own!!!! All the best Tony.
Nathan, James, and Tommy in the house, get it done.
The memories. The mechanic that R&R'd my 914 wiper pinched the fuel line putting the tank back in.
I’ve pinched the return line! Somewhere online I found the correct length to allow it to loop without pinching. Still not my favorite design!

Pro tip!! I certainly hope not to do that job again, but now we know
Great stuff! Have to tackle this myself soon…
Be sure to unbolt both sides of the cowl supports and pull the speedo for that inside support (I’d replace it). Good luck!
That is a very helpful video, thanks. I have to do the same job shorty!!!!
Don’t forget the ofset isolator for the firewall side!
Wow!!
How did you plug the return line at the tank? Putting dual carbs and would like to do the same
Sealant, bolt and double hose clamp. I guess you could have it welded up, but this works well.

I can’t recall of the top of my head, but only some years had this. My 72 does not, and I do not believe this 73 did either.
