I'd say that the plug can't pop off with the cooling plate bolted on by the 3 fixings. It will butt up against the plug itself. It would have to pull of about 10mm to come adrift.
Still the majority of Porsche cars are build or assembled in Volkswagen factories with many VAG parts. Since Porsche doesn't have their own press shop each and every part of every Porsche carbody is manufactured third party.

I have NEVER seen a loose plug on a 914 Alternator. Done uncountable ones. Best way to replace is engine out of the car.
I'm beginning to think this voltage regulator wiring was sabotage. Both ends were disconnected and hidden. Not sure why.

think maybe u energized the wrong regulator pin..u need 12 volts to alternator to start the charge

It's 4 nuts to drop that motor, just like a VW bus. Then you can do a full service very easily. Plugs wires valve adjustment points belt alternator.
