This one is a lot better than those expensive dollies in the market congratulation
Thanks! I have a new version coming soon
You skipped the part where toy are able to get the tire off the bead, like everyone else that makes videos on this machine. It is making it appear you are promoting the machine and not giving an honest review on how hard it is to get it off. I just got one and I feel like I am going to break it, while trying to pry it onto the Duckhead, so it can be spun off. This is why I am even looking for these videos, to find one that shows why I am having suck a hard time because the metal is deflecting and bend down, with the amount of force I am putting on a simple 2nd Gen Prius car tire.
I have some upgrades planned for it to address it! I felt good about the duckhead, but the bar arm to rotate the turntable has weaknesses
Remember to only use the outer holes on the turntable!
Ebay sellers list for 448 but accepted my make offer at 399 shipped.
Sweet!
Honest this is a great video idk why people are criticizing it was well put together also have this tool on my save list now on eBay
Thanks!
You have to make sure the tire goes in the drop center to remove or mount it. That's where you were having a hard time mounting the tire because the tire wasn't in the drop center. Once it's in the drop center, you really don't even need a machine to mount or remove the tire. You can actually remove or mount a tire with just two pry bars as long as the tire is in the DROP CENTER! I will go ahead and retire my Harbor Freight tire changer with the Lucid adapter and buy this tire machine. I'm just glad it's light weight to move the machine around anywhere. Just the bead breaker is all I want but that bead breaker helps turn the whole wheel to mount or remove the tire is a huge PLUS for me! All these years I've been breaking the bead and scratching the rim with those damn manual bead breakers! Those days will be over soon! I was actually about to buy the Mayflower tire changer just for the bead breaker and saw this tire machine while I was searching and had to TH-cam it to see if anyone tried it yet. Thanks for the video! eBay is selling this machine for $439!
Way to go !
Put a flywheel and starter motor on it to turn it.
@@theupscriber65 great idea!
Now you are thinking!
Just googled for review of this machine. Great timing for me! Thank you Sir.
@@Nowayjose-z2r awesome!

@@dalehazelton-np2le $449 free shipping on eBay. 11/22/24
How do you think this will do with low profile tires for ex 245 40 18
As long as you’re careful breaking the bead, don’t expect it to be an issue
Tire sizes doesn't matter as long as the tire is in the drop center. Run flats are a little harder because the side wall is so hard but as long as it's in the drop center, it can be mounted or removed easily. Tire in the DROP CENTER is EXTREMELY important!!!!
Slight critique, would like to have seen a complete dismount & mount. Also, would liked to have seen the camera moved in closer, especially when your body was blocking some of the action, nothing personal, just seemed like there were a few critical steps/scenes missing(?) If there was a way to get an overhead shot, looking down on the process (vs from the side) that would've been awesome. That said, thanks for sharing the review!!
@@__WJK__ thanks! I’ll be doing a few mods to this and will do a second mount dismount. No tire lube made the first mount a real headache.
Agreed! I want to see the tire iron and duckhead in operation. You glossed over that so quickly, you spent more time on taking it out of the box than showing it being used.
@ I’ll get another angle soon!
Awesome!
Looks like a good cheap alternative 👍 when you put the tire on be sure to push the part you already have on to the center of the wheel where it's smaller in diameter thanks for the review I'm gonna check into one of those👍👍
Good tip!
@@barefootgaragejax9252 Yep, get the tire bead into the "drop center" of the wheel. They sell drop center clamps fairly cheap to hold the bead in the drop center of the wheel, makes for much less stress on everything.
Hi, to make the wheels spin slightly faster, should the smaller sprocket be put? Thank you 🙏
@@Ernesto.66 yes, smaller on the axle
@barefootgaragejax9252 By putting the smaller chainring on the axis, does the force/power remain the same or will it be lower? I have to use it to tow a trolley on the beach weighing 100 kg and I have to consider whether to design it with an electric motor or with one of these modified winches. Thanks 👋
@@Ernesto.66 for the beach, I think traction will be your main issue. Gear it low and make it heavy, as too much wheel speed (larger wheel sprocket) will spin the tires. Good luck!
@barefootgaragejax9252 On several occasions I have mentally designed the electric wheel to take the small dinghy to the sea but I have never tried to make it. I have always been afraid that the wheel on the sand would slip. Then I saw your video and I was heartened but having to travel about 100 meters on the sand, the rotation of the winch I think is too slow. I think I have to use a different electric motor. To make the wheel spin slower but stronger, whatever engine I am going to use, should the ring gear of the motor or the ring gear of the wheel be larger? Thank you ❤️
@ for more speed, larger at the engine and smaller at the wheels is the ideal. For the beach, why not add dummy wheels and rubber tracks?
Salve, per far girare le ruote leggermente più veloce va messa la corona dentata più piccola? Grazie
put duals on it it will be the quickest way to increase traction. You can do all of the suggested experiments but that would be the quickest way. All tyou'd have to do is your hub method with a piece of pipe in the middle
A great video. Thank you. Not sure if my garage find (27 years not running) 1973 2.0 has a TPS issue (it's running... will road test soon) .... but this is gold if it has problems.
@@gregorydahlen2103 glad you’re running! The symptoms of it being non linear and a bit erratic are a dead give away. Plus it’s a cheap enough job that it’s good insurance. Don’t forget to rest the TPS once it’s been removed.
Excellent!
How much does your trailer weigh?
1200 maybe, not a ton
Thanks for the great video. Do you use any type of safety clip where the cable (slides in sideways) by the rear pulley. Mine slid out yesterday, Trying to find a solution. Thanks, Tom
@@tomlevy4206 I have not had this issue on mine. From how it looks the cable should go on the pulley, pulley bolted down, and it should protect it from coming off. Maybe try a new/repop pulley?
where did you get controller
@@chrisgardenhire6727 it’s the controller for the winch. Included from HF
I bought the palmer products windscreen kit for my XB12XT and your video helped me with the installation greatly. I bought the GPS bar as well. I set it up with the standard Garmin handlebar attachment but it sits too far forward, so I ordered a pancake style mount from motopumps. Thanks for the video.
@@simoncutts2297 great! Their instructions do leave a bit to be desired
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAA!!! Trust me brother...burn it NOW! Your life blood is not worth the headaches with this demon beast. My master cylinder was trash, just had to plan your stopping distances as it took 3 full pumps to even slow down. Watching these videos brought back such horrendous nightmares with my 1970 411. For the 411 aficionados...beware the dreaded oil filter bolt. It is suspended with a banjo bolt and a thru-case bolt and bosses on each case half. Too much torque and the bosses will snap - new engine time fellas! Voice of experience talking.
@@chrisosti I miss it 0%
I was just here to see how to replace the belt. ;)
It’s not too bad!
This is minor I suppose, but I’m looking for recommendations on the best way to trim the excess from those really beefy seals after you install them. Thoughts?
@@shawnbrennan7526 I used lineman pliers or good wire cutters that are sharp. Most of the seals have some inner metal structure. Trim the a tiny bit long and scrunch them up for a snug fit.
This is the most comprehensive series for the 914 and how to do this. Unbelievable! Great job. I wish I had the confidence to do it. Great explanations throughout you set a high bar!
@@r.arabian3056 I have to report it still works amazing. So glad I made the upgrade

tricky assortment of tin
The tin certainly can be, especially in the car!
BTW.....I use to work on the cars you have.....when they were new!
Nice!
realize it is 2 year now.... but I have a thought about your traction.... get (2) 3" wheels.... attach them to a small swing arm that can pivot.... then have them inline with each drive wheel. take a bicycle tire and lap it over the drive tire and the small 3" wheel..... now pivot the swing arm down.... you have a track!!! then pivot it up.... and you still have a 2 wheel drive that can freewheel just like it does now!
Traction was my main issue! This idea is killer!
@@barefootgaragejax9252 I had problems with traction on a electric wheelchair..... so I did what I said above.... and no more traction issues at all.... if you can get the right size tire that will slip over the drive wheel and the small wheel without cutting it it works perfectly.... but even if you have to cut the tire use a piano hinge.. I used a linear actuator to raise and lower the swing arm... I also put a shock on the swing arm wheel since it was on a wheel chair to make the ride super smooth.... I am helping a friend build a trailer dolly and sent him your video... I told him to use a winch and so..... then I said I bet people have done this before and looked on you tube where I found your video.... I told him to use a bottle jack and weld the ball on it... that way if the ground is uneven you can adjust the height on the go! I used a bike tire since the tires on the wheel chair were 1 to 2".....but you may need a atv / golf cart tire due to the width.. but it is still the same concept. Aires came up with a snowblower that uses a similar idea.... called quick trac or something along that.... but it will give you an idea of what I mean.... I just looked it up.... it is called... Rapid trak... check it out! th-cam.com/video/E7pjKGSFFXs/w-d-xo.html ...... BTW... the higher you can raise the pivot the easier it is to freewheel... you can see the contact surface of the drive tire... the smaller that contact the easier it is to freewheel.... the aires only lifts it a inch or so and leaves to much contact area but still works... if it raised 4 to 6" it is almost the same contact area you have now!
A other me? you must have trouble sleeping too..... thinking of prototypes! great job!
where do you get these!

I am in the process of building one to move small camper trailers around a pole barn. I have all concrete and don't have to deal with the grass problem like you have. I like your videos and the changes you show when adjustments to the build are made. Thank You Very Much!
Good luck! Make the mover as heavy and low as is feasible
Nice
A lovely & comfortable car. I still drive it with passion.
Wow, ultimately a very frustrating 5 episodes to watch. I wonder if you have to love these cars with their hundreds of problems to be able to bring them back from the dead. When I first saw this car I knew it would be an immense undertaking to start basically from scratch with little time and resources. Looks like It ended up being too much for you.
It totally did. If it was my only project, sure, but there was no chance as a back burner deal
Their nickname in VW was Nordoff's Folly. Their top man spent a fortune developing them, then they didn't sell no matter the facelift that created the 412. There's virtually no spare parts available, if you ask a VW specialist about a Type 4 he'll think you mean an engine. To resurrect one you need deep pockets and years of dedication.
I‘m amazed that you thought you could make money on this vehicle that you saved from the wrecker. It has to be a labour of love. If you had put in the hundreds of hours needed you could have put together a real showpiece.
It’s tough that there is so little support in the aftermarket for these!
For a load of 80kg can it goes for 30degree slope upward
Probably not that steep
Hello can you help me for parts chain size and axle thank you
Parts list in description.
Turning radius was insufferable on my 2006. In 2008 they changed the triple clamps. The new clamps will switch out with no problem. Turning radius improves dramatically, to the positive. Ideally it would be nice to find the newer forks too because they moved the axle to a trailing position. However the 2006 forks will bolt in just fine.
Yes! I have to 3 point turn in my own garage to park
Thank you! Great upgrade and needed
Thanks!
Holy sh*t balls! That music. Thanks for posting though 👍
Haha- yeh, my editing skills have improved since then!
So how is it running now? Are you happy with Haltech and is it easier to control and tweak?
Excellent!! I’m still chasing a bit of ideal stability, but haven’t had to make a timing or fuel adjustment in months!
Axle on backwards.
Great job. Binge watched the series. Like your channel!
Thanks! More 914 content to come (eventually)!
Any updates on the Type IV?
Spent too much time on the back burner, so it got sold.
I need to bench test my 914 2.0 engine. What needs to be connected to relay connector to bench test? Thanks
It may be tough to do out of the car without a dedicated test rig. The only car connections are at the relay board for injectors and the charge/start harness.
So only a single 4 or 5 pin connector to the relay board for power I would imagine. The rest is controlled by the mechanical triggering the injectors@@barefootgaragejax9252
