      The goal in poker terms is, get multiple straights of 3 stones (without 3 of a kind) , get multiple 3 of a kind (without straights), aim for 3 west,east,north,south for the direction you are sitting, 3 dragon tiles, sets without 1 or 9's, get a flush of any combination, get a flush with only straights, get a flush with triples (worth the most). And ofcourse, do this before the rest can. Any points you lay on the board by stealing that aren't dragons or w,e,n,s are "discarded" unless it's the very last stone you need (which btw makes you discard a stone on your board so you can get out earlier). Yes there are more ways to get points but from what I gathered, these are the basics NL explained so far.
      (sidenote, you are allowed one "pair" in the triples and straights)

    • @Istalior
      @Istalior 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      there is some correct stuff and some incorrect. Goal is to make a 3 3 3 3 2 hand in most cases where 3 can be either sequence of same suit (123 678 456 789 etc) or 3 of a same tile (and same suit ofc) and 2 is pair of any kind. there some exeptions liek 7 pairs but thats not important from the get go. Value of the hand determined by amount of Yaku in that hand.
      You get Yaku from making certain combinations. even if you dont know them (and you actualyl should) most of the beautiful looking stuff is a yaku. do you have all tiles of the same suit - get some Yaku. Do you have 123456789 of the same suit in your hand - get some Yaku. do you have only triplets and pairs in your hand (like 333 222 999 444 EE) get some Yaku. do you have same sequence in the same suit like 456456 of the same suit - get some yaku.
      Other methods are your dragon tiles (red white green) seat winds triplets (NESW) and Round wind triplets (in east round (which NL played) East wind triplet is always worth a yaku, regardless of your seat. but if you are East seat in east round East triplet worth 2 Yaku for you. once for seat and once for round )
      Each turn you draw one tile and discard one tile while trying to build your hand. And there starts interaction. If the tile they discarded is last tile you need to complete the hand (and your resulting hand will have Yaku) you can call Ron and person who discarded the tile that finished your hand pays you points according to Yaku you have.
      If you have a pair in hand and someone drops same tile you can take it and make yourself a triplet - this is called Pon. You can Call Pon from any player discard but that makes your hand "Open" some Yaku cost less or not applied to open hands so it's always a choice - progress your hand faster by making it cheap, or risk not getting that tile later. people often call Pon on dragon or wind tiles
      There is also Chi. By calling chi you take discarded tile that completes a sequence in the suit. like if you have 45 and opponent discards 3 or 6 in the same suit - that is chi. but you can only call chi from your left hand player.
      Lastly there is riichi. Riichi is artificial Yaku that you get by paying 1000 points when you in tenpai (1 tile till winning). By declaring riichi you say to others thats your hand is almost ready and they need to be careful. Also you cant change your hand after declaring riichi and discard anything you draw unless it is your winning tile. but if you win in those conditions your hand will be more valuable since you put yourself at disadvantage. That is especially important since by the rules you cant win on the tile that you discarded earlier in the game. so anything in your discard is absolutely safe so good players will likely go into defense and only discard safe tiles if you call riichi.
      Lol it's a long post. and i was just trying to make a quick tutorial. hope someone reads it at least. or even better understands this mind flood XD

    • @OsthatoAlfakyn
      @OsthatoAlfakyn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      So Riichi, All Runs, and Twin runs are Yaku. You need at least one to win. They each give you a certain number of Han. Han acts as a kind of multiplier. They also got 3 Dora, which are bonus tiles: for each Dora you have, you get an additional Han.
      So they have 6 Han in total. A Mangan is a specific amount of points you suck from other people if you have 5 Han. Since they had 6 Han, it's 1.5 Mangan instead.
      Yeah okay writing this down I understand that probably still makes no sense.

    i love how in chess theres tech tips like every time something happens. "Pawns capture diagonally :)"
    in this game shit is literally in Japanese and the clubhouse devs were like "nah they got this, it's pretty self explanatory"

    I learned Riichi Mahjong from this game. You can view scoring hands in the game, however Wikipedia also explains scoring hands quite well. I think Clubhouse Games 51 was worth it for this game alone.

    I have 2 clips of separate Riichi Mahjong sessions. One clip, I saw a CPU call "Ron!" Off a CPU's Dragon tile, resulting on the 3 Large Dragons Yakuman (and wiping out all 32,000 points from that CPU), and I got another clip of the separate Riichi Mahjong session in which the East Seat CPU called "Ron!" On the South Seat CPU that had the following hand (D is Dora):
    5(D)67789P, EEEN(D)N(D)GGG Honor Tiles, which resulted in this score:
    Riichi (1)
    1-shot (1)
    Dragon Tiles (1)
    Perfect Winds (2)
    ½ Flush (3)
    Dora (3 as bonus Han)
    Which resulted in a full Sanbaiman being calculated as a result and just instantly sent the CPU in the South Seat into the Minus Zone, all in E-1. And this was in Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics. My Mahjong points were intact during those affairs, since it was a CPU-on-CPU beat down.

    27:06 I might be missing a yaku here, but if you were going for iipeikou (double sequence), it's closed only. Opening your hand, you no longer had a yaku at this point. It's also not great to call chii on a ryanmen (double sided wait), as those are already pretty good and you want to wait on them when you're tenpai (especially since you can also get pinfu if the hand is closed).
