      @@spynae Isaac is like a podcast with an overlay, talking about the game itself is incidental. With this series he's always talking about the game itself, always speaking out loud about strategy and what he thinks about what's going on. It's a very different experience, at least for me.
      But I like 'em both.

    I love that NL is shining a spotlight on smaller indie games like Chess. Even though he's a huge channel he's not afraid to play lesser known games!

      I like how Chess goes back to the basics, focusing on mechanics. It sure is a game of the year contender for me and I can't help but wonder what the developers will come up with next!

      I feel like Chess is a little barebones mechanic wise, but I can't wait to see what other developers do with it as a foundation.

    I actually love that NL analyzes his games after he plays them. He's getting so much better (I'm pretty sure he's just wiping off the rust tbh) and it's really fun to see him find mistakes in his gameplay and improve as a result. I guess what I'm trying to say is *pog* .

      @@Jack-dk7uu I once sent a draw offer when I was losing as a joke, and the guy started all caps cursing at me.... I've also had people get mad when I play out a position till the very end when i'm blatantly losing. Even to the point of trying to force stalemate.

      @@jesseengland5967 it's very good to play till the end, sometimes being a whole queen up will still results in draws. Its good practice for understanding what is winning and what is not. In one game I blundered a rook for bishop but the resulting endgame was drawn, if I didn't resign I would have had a chance.

    I also second the gentle pushing that people wnat more analysis. Not only does it give a better chance of you improving over time (which makes the series as a whole have more direction and feel more satisfying) but it's also the most unique content Chess can give proportional to your other stuff. An opportunity to be objectively retrospective about your own decisions is super interesting, and often entertaining.

      I agree, if he doesn't want to I get it. But my absolute favorite part of the video is the analysis, because I feel invested in the game and love knowing what the optimal moves where and where/if mistakes were made.

    The blunder at the end was so relatable. Shame we didn’t get to see the analysis for the last game. I think you were winning when you pinned the knight at 13:34.

      Ya, take the pawn or protect with knight to F6 and he's -11, meaning he's considered 11 pawns up. He survives this attack and doesn't run into time trouble, and he wins easily.

    Just gonna say, the move-by-move analysis afterward, with commentary, is HUGELY GREAT. I'm glad NL brought it back for this vid! The enthusiasm when he sees that he made the best move, or when a move he thought was spicy turned out to be the best, it's infectious!!
    Will definitely be watching all of this series!!

    The Nimzowitch-Larsen Attack... heh, I see you have much to learn NL. Once you learn about the Lichtenstein-Wallowitz Quantum Stratagem, your game will never be the same. If you think of chess as being in relativistic curved spacetime instead of a flat 8x8 board, it all starts to make sense.

      Be careful, though. I just got kicked out of a tournament for utilizing LWQS, no matter how many times I tried to explain them that Qg8 through the e2->f7 wormhole is a perfectly legitimate move.

    NL might be even more intelligent than we thought. He makes fast moves to create compromised board states to make more interesting videos instead of just playing a solid game like we all know he can. He's the bald Magnus Carlsen of content creators.

    NL and chess is a perfect match because IMO his play-by-play style of commentary is his greatest asset as a gaming youtuber, and chess is such a simple (therefore perfect) game for that skill to shine. Pog, gourd, etc

    I would like to say that this chess series is absolutely pogged and I hope you do more for a while. I also love the post-game analysis because, not only is it quite interesting to watch, but it also mitigates backseating.

    Couldve been interesting if white played e5 at 11:54 to stop your bishop from having an escape square. It doesnt really win a piece cause you can still move your knight on e7 or do something weird like d4 but it's a cool move I think
