    From that era, this games ending was still the most memorable as a kid, I remember it being so hard, and the reward being that end theme song with the end credits showing you a highlights of all the different levels.

      Same! Can vividly remember first time beating it. The way you had to fight Slogra, Gaiden, Death and then Dracula was challenging and fun. They really played up the ending with little details like the candles being lit one by one after you defeat Death on the path to Dracula. The build up following into the ending theme was perfect!

    I still pay this game till this day. The best 2D Castlevania game in my opinion. And the music is amazing! I always liked playing from level to level instead of playing in an huge map where you always have to back travel constantly.

      I loved this as a child but over the years, I'll be honest, I leaned more towards Rondo of Blood once I had access to it. After playing this hack and really thinking about the innovations and the impact this game has made over the years, I have a newfound appreciation and respect for it.
      This one has without a doubt one of my favorite Grim Reaper fights

    • @duffman18
      @duffman18 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've never felt like this is a Castlevania game, but a game in its own series, a spinoff of Castlevania that plays very differently, much like Mega Man X is to the Mega Man series. It's fantastic, but yeah it doesn't really play anything like the other castlevania games.
      My favourite of whet I guess we'd call the classic castlevania series is probably Bloodlines for genesis, because that takes the NES gameplay to its logical conclusion and is obviously a graphical upgrade. It's also a much much quicker game, cos my only real problem with Super Castlevania is how slow it feels.
      And yeah Rondo of Blood is probably objectively the best classic castlevania game. Actually maybe I'd say that's my favourite, it's just really bloody difficult lol. But it's everything that's great about castlevania, but it also fixes every single issue that classic castlevania has. For example, if you get knocked back by an enemy into a bottomless pit then, well, it turns out there aren't bottomless pits. Instead of dying, you fall into a brand new area, and you keep going. So it rewards replaying the game because its absolutely enormous and has so many different branching paths. But it keeps the basic premise of having a horizontal whip, which I feel is actually better than having a multi-directional whip for the same reason having a horizontal blaster in mega man is better than the later 2.5 mega man x games that let you shoot every direction and suffered as a result, like the PS2 mega man x games. Having the horizontal weapons like that gives games like these a tactical aspect to them. It's one of those things where limitation breeds creativity, both for the developer and for the player. Though again I do still love super castlevania 4.
      But yeah I just feel as the mega man games are to the mega man x games, the castlevania games are to the super castlevania game. And that's the most depressing part, there was only ever one super castlevania game, and shortly afterwards they moved into making metroid style games instead and never went back to make a sequel to super castlevania in the same style, meaning we have to rely on romhacks to play more of it.
      But yeah it plays very differently from every other classic castlevania, so I don't think of it as being in the same series. It's its own thing, and it's a masterpiece. And so is bloodlines, and rondo of Blood, and castlevania 1 and 3. Castlevania 2 is alright if you follow a walk through but that's a pain in the arse, and let's just pretend Dracula X doesn't exist.
      Also Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon and its sequel, which are two games in the classic castlevania NES style with NES graphics, are absolutely astonishingly great. I don't like metroidvanias so I haven't played the full 2.5 Bloodstained game that was made by the guy who made Symphony of the Night, but people say it's great if you're into that. But the spinoffs of that, the Curse of the Moon games, are as good as if not better than castlevania 1 and 3 for NES. They take everything great about them and just make more of it, so you play as 4 characters you can flip between on the fly, and in the 2nd game you play as 4 new characters (and then if you beat the game you unlock the 4 characters from the first game and can play through it with those 4, too, it's great)

    • @FatalVisionTV
      @FatalVisionTV  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is an awesome comment. I can definitely see your logic with Mega Man and the X series, especially with the intro saying that Simon is once again fighting Dracula and his ass is only supposed to wake up every 100 years.
      I had this theory as a kid where This actually was a sequel to Simon's Quest with Dracula's hand popping out the grave at the end (The Headstones kinda Match, at least in the Japanese version with the cross on top) Simon has to go back for a 3rd time and this time Dracula can't escape because of the sunlight, gets burnt to a crisp, end of Simon's Story.
      Bloodlines is one I didn't grow up playing, I did try a color hack of it a few years ago and I enjoyed the story and the traveling. It felt pretty stiff but overall, it was pretty good, even picking it up for the first time in later life.
      Rondo is always going to be my personal favorite. The Graphics, The stages, the music, the branching paths, the replay value, and I loved the throwbacks, like fighting Shaft and it's a gauntlet match against the original bosses while the old boss music plays.

      I think an anime-like or werstern cartoon-like desing for the characters would kill the game's atmosphere. This is one of the best, if not the best Castlevania game the way it is, only rivalled perhaps by Symphony of the Night for PSF

    • @FatalVisionTV
      @FatalVisionTV  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It really added so many more possibilities of platforming and gameplay future installments and it's a shame they completely ditched the gimmick like that. The closest I can think of where they somewhat did it again, was in the Genesis one but it was so underutilized that you forget it even existed in the first place.

    • @AkaiAzul
      @AkaiAzul 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The philosophy of Castlevania was a side-scrolling platformer _horror_ game. IIRC, the devs went on record to say they removed the 8-directional whipping in future installments because the whip was "too good" and took away from the horror aspect of the series since you always had the good options the whip provided to fall back on in any scenario.
      Ironically, Super Castlevania was _never_ rated as an easy game, thanks to the amazing level design and challenges they provided. To us gamers, we love having fair options and reasonable challenges to allow us to use these options fully. Truly, Super Casltevania IV is a gem of fun and challenge, that I suspect most gamers who've played it haven't actually beaten it.
      I'm no developer, so I don't know if designing future for new Castlevania experiences with 8-directional whipping that is challenging and rewarding to players is "worth" the headache of keeping it vs reverting to unidirectional whipping. At least, it does give Simon a sense of uniqueness not seen elsewhere in his family, save technically for Julius Belmont that we have _yet_ to get his game where he battles Dracula. I think I can safely speak for all Castlevania fans that we get this game. It'd be neat if this prime Belmont would possess all the abilities previous Belmonts possessed: item crash, martial arts, full whip control, and more. One that still gives fans that challenge and sense of the Belmont family finally going all out to cause Dracula to do so as well.

Perhaps copyright infringement? Lastly I really wanted a good wolf man/wear wolf battle in this version since I got it back in 1991 the year I graduated High School. Great play through. Can’t believe the brick guy Golem got you, I can tell you have experience with the game. I still get killed from time to time as well from stupid mistakes. Especially the last 3 levels.
